Hope somebody help I have life long insomnia I took benzo Xanax 1 mg and amitriptyline 125 mg for 21 years gp stopped Xanax (in UK) changed my meds to doxepin only I was taking 125 mg at night sleeping very good but it gave me a minor panic attack feeling suffocating of throat so after a year discontinued doxepin and started mirtazapine 15 to 40 mg for 5 weeks it never worked now gone back to doxepin it’s the 4th week and now I am not sleeping at all.
Can somebody help or share your experience. Many thanks

I did many research and 3-6mg was approved by the FDA in 2010 for treating insomnia. The dose your are taking might be too high.
What is your current dose on doxepin now?
Also, doxepin should be taken on an empty stomach 30 minutes before bedtime. Taken it with food will reduce the effectiveness for sleep.
Thanks for your reply. Mine is 125 mg. It’s generic doxepin, not Selinor.
Lower doses 3-6mg are effective for insomnia. Whereas, Higher doses alleviates depression/anxiety symptoms.
