I thought Clonidine was for high blood pressure. Why would this help for insomnia?
Why would a doctor prescribe Clonidine to take with ambien to help me sleep?

Clonidine is for high blood pressure, but it also helps with sleep.
I would just like to add that taking these medications together could increase your risk of hypotnesion, leading to feeling faint etc, so just watch out for this until you know how the combination will affect you...
Hello larue2,
Clonidine has several off-label uses, to treat many disorders such as stress, sleep disorders, and hyperarousal caused by post-traumatic stress disorder, also psychiatric disorders, borderline personality disorder, and other anxiety disorders. Clonidine is also a mild sedative, and can be used as premedication before surgery or procedures, the list goes on. Being combined with ambien you should sleep better and longer. I hope you soon get some good sleep.
