Does anyone know how to cut this dose down? It’s a capsule and I do not want to stay on it anymore. My doctor said I could switch to something else without cutting it down first but I’m very paranoid about getting side effects.
How to cut Librium 5 mg? Any suggestions?

Hi, Holly!
The problem is that you won't know which is the drug and what're the inactive ingredients so you may be getting uneven amounts of the drug itself. That's the same reason as why you can't split tablets that aren't scored.
Could you try just taking 1 every other day for a few days, then every second day, etc.?
Hi! Thank you for the reply! I most certainly am willing to try that how long would I do that?
Try every other day for like 2-3 doses and if you're not having any withdrawal symptoms drop down to every second day for a few doses and so on.
It may take a couple of weeks but if you go slow you probably won't have any problem. Whether or not you have symptoms depends on your dose, how long you've been taking it, and your own individual metabolism. Some people can stop but you're going to be better off going slow.
If you don't mind my asking why do you want to stop taking it?
I’ve been taking it since 2005 and it got lowered to the 5 which is the smallest dose I would really like to see how I do without it since I’ve been in it so long. I’m just nervous in how to do it without having a bad withdrawal since it’s been so long
That is a long time and even though you used the medication wisely your metabolism has probably adjusted to the drug. You may have a bit of trouble stopping it if you go too quickly.
Have you tried starting your taper? How's it going?
I started the way you suggested every other day for about 5 days now do you think
I should go longer now? I don’t want to do it wrong and have bad withdrawal
If you're doing okay and not having any symptoms you might want to try every second day now. If it gets rough you could go back to the every other day for a few more doses.
If you're feeling okay now you're probably not going to have a problem.
Keep us posted, okay?
Ok thank you I’ll give it a try! I will! Thank
You
