I've been taking Contrave for about a week. So far no side effects, but not much change in my appetite either. I was hoping for instant hunger disappearance!! Does it take a while for the effectiveness to kick in? Thanks!

I am a newbie to Contrave (February 19, 2019), I am currently taking one tablet for the first week and working myself up to full dosage. Of course there is no weight loss YET but I am going to be positive!! Reading all these responses are somewhat encouraging to me and I am just praying for some results. I will keep everyone posted. Good luck to my fellow Contravers.
I've been on Contrave for 8 days & I can tell a significant difference in my appetite.
Dont know if I've lost any lbs yet but will have a follow up this Friday.
I'm very please with how I feel, complete loss of appetite, No negative effects, I DO have to eat to get something in but it's a huge change for me. I have been doing 30 minutes of cardio 4 days a week and will give weight updates Friday, 2/15/19... STAY ENCOURAGED!
I've been taking Contrave for almost 2 weeks. Week one I had pretty severe intestinal pain, cramps, cold sweats etc. I waited 10 days to add the 2nd pill. I haven't had any major side effects on this dose, 3 days on 2 pills. My appetite is much less, the cravings for sweets is significantly better. I'm down about 3#. I still crave my evening wine. I was hopeful the Contrave would help with alcohol cravings. Anyone have any experience with this?
I was a daily wine drinker and no longer crave it.
I stopped even wanting alcohol when I used to have at least a few glasses of wine or a vodka every week. Now I can have a glass of something the odd time and not want anymore than that which is awesome!
thought I would write an update This post is 3 years old but I am still going to update. I have been on now 4 months. I was 198 and I am now 175. I can not lose anymore. I go from 175 - 174,173 back up.
I still have horrible headaches right at the back of my head. Cotton mouth so chew a lot of sugar free gum and something else has started to happen. I have like sinus swelling. I wear glasses and the bridge is tight now through out the day don't know why. weird.
constipation doesn't bother me too much but I still crave and eat sugar. I guess I could get off sugar I would have lost lots of weight. I am covered until march. Then see if I want to stay on it.
Hello: I've been on Contrave about 6 weeks. I find that Contrave has reduced my "cravings" which has diminished my appetite. I'm also eating 1200 (weekends 1500 calories) a day and while on Contrave and I'm capable of sticking to the calorie intake. Without the Contrave I would not be able to handle only 1200 calories a day (that's just a ridiculous number if you ask me - but I'm following the plan). You are only one week in. I think once you are on the full dose you will start to see a difference in your appetite. I'm 6 weeks in and I'm down 17 pounds. Good luck to you. I would love to hear about your progress.
Hey I've been on contrave for two weeks and the nausea and nightmares are driving me crazy my doctor ordered me something for nausea
I have been on it exactly 4 days on 1 pill a day - I go to 2 a day on a couple of days
what i have noticed: Headaches that remind me of phenphen but water really does help.
no brain fog but my eyes are so dry they feel like i just want to close them all the time.
no extra energy but last few days i have been so hungry and cant stop. I eat more now then i ever used to. Makes me sad. I dont know if i will be one that it doesnt work. Im in Canada and it just got approved but its expensive. Was on saxenda and it worked awesome double the price of this but it attacked my pancreas and i had to stop. :( this was my hope I have already gained 5lbs in a week!!!
I have perscrip for a month so hopefully it will work with 2 pills
I've been taking Contrave for over a year and I have not lost any weight because of it. I remain at about 250 lbs. The Wellbutrin (bupropion) component has noticeably reduced my baseline anxiety/depression level and that may have had a small effect on reducing stress-induced eating. I don't eat sweets, soft drinks, stay away from most sugary things and fried foods. I am to the point where I am going to ask my Doc why we should continue with it. I take 2 pills in the a.m, 2 in the p.m. When I accidentally skip a dose at night, anxiety rises and I feel on edge the next day. Suspect that is due to the drop in the wellbutrin component. After this experiment, I think my issue is portion size at regular meals (3), not snacking or sweets or junk food. Contrave does not seem to diminish appetite once one starts eating. I might change to a bupropion-only prescription for those benefits and look elsewhere for structure and methods for weight loss.
I'm on my second week with a dosage of 2 pills per day. I've noticed a significant change in my desire to eat mindlessly. I'm down 8 lbs. I have serious cotton mouth which actually helps me to drink water! I haven't experienced a surge in energy as others have reported; that would be pretty nice! I've been told to stick with it until after the first full month. The dosage changes so much in the first month--- you just need to stick with it. Contrave is very expensive so if I don't see big changes I'm out.
I've been on Contrave for 2 weeks now. My doctor started me 1 pill twice a day. My face would flush during the first week, but that seems to have gone away as I have started week 2. Did or has anyone else had cravings? I now crave protein more than sweets and carbs. I haven't had the issue with constipation. However, I drink a gallon of water a day. I did have my first ravenous experience last night. My dinner was roasted veggies and baked fish, but I was still hungry. No weight loss yet.
I've been on Contrave for a week and a half. The first week I noticed a significant reduction in appetite, most likely due to drinking lots of water to combat the cotton mouth. However, I noticed that my appetite has increased the second week since going to two pills a day. I've lost 5 lbs, which I am thrilled about, but hoping the appetite suppression comes back. I've cut out most carbs and all alcohol. I'm going to stick with it, at least until I'm up to full dose. Fingers crossed!
my face flushed on it too.. are you still on it
I have been on Contrave for 3 months and am down 32lbs. My doctor put me on the South Beach Diet along with the pills and its working great. A little nausea here or there but I am finally not hungry all the time (eating to live not living to eat). I noticed my hunger lessened the first few days on my 1 pill in the am dose... but at the end of that week I was starting to get hungry again, it was just in time to start taking my evening pill. The same thing happened the next week but I went up to 2 pills 2 times/day. I am still on 2 pills 2x/day and take them in the morning with breakfast around 8am and just before or at dinner time (have a hard time remembering to take the evening dose). Things are going well for me so far. I am sure everyone is different and I wonder if other drugs people may take make it less effective. I also take Fish oil, Chromium picolinate (recommended by dr to level blood sugars), Apple Cider Vinegar pills and B12 every morning too. Good luck everyone!
I quit taking it.
Side effects out weighed the appetite. Not worth it to me.
Hi WriterMom. I’ve been taking Contrave since November 22, 2017. The 1st 2 weeks were regular. When I got to week 3..end of week 2, I started to push back from my plates of food. I hear alot of people say it doesn’t work for them, but it is for me. I am now up to 2 in the a.m and 2 in the p.m and I can barely finish any foods. When I don’t have the appetite to eat, I still fuel the body with yogurt or fruit. This keeps my body from feeding off my fat. I’m a big woman at 5’8 263 and from Thanksgiving to December 5 I’ve lost 6 lbs. Not tremendous but when you’re big and have dropped down any, you feel great. I don’t go back to the doctor till January/February 2018 but I know I’ll be down more by then. I’m losing inches as well. My thighs were 24 inches and they are now 19. I get full so fast now. I had 3 soft shell tacos the other evening and could only get 1 whole one down and a little over half of the second one.
I hope you’re journey with weight loss is a successful one. Great luck to you and everyone taking this medication like us.
I’ve been on Contrave for a week and down 4lbs. Maybe because of the constipation and nausea. Feeling better now and get fuller quicker. It does make me tired
I m just starting 2nd week. I do notice a difference in my appetite.
Ive had some health issues in the past few years n 4 surgeries.
Went from a size 6 to a 12. Very depressed about my weight gain cause I’ve been w a trainer my entire life until all this happened. I can not train like I used to so I got a pedometer n a treadmill. I’m working up to my 10,000 steps a day n along w contrave I’m hoping by the new year I can at least look in the mirror and like what I see. I mean my progress of course. I’ve read everyone’s comments n it really helps to know I’m not alone. Good luck to everyone.
