I've taken Wellbutrin before (about 5 years ago) and remember it helped. I don't remember any weight issues at the time. my Ob/Gyn recommends I try Celexa but I've gained about 15 pounds during this depression and really don't want to risk any additional weight gain. I usually exercise, eat well, don't drink. Does anyone have a recommendation if I should try Celexa or go back to Wellbutrin?
Celexa - I've been depressed for about a year due to stress/parenting?

Hi, Java!
Weight changes with Celexa can go either way:
"Metabolic
Common (1% to 10% of users): Anorexia, decreased/increased weight, decreased/increased appetite"
Compare it to Wellbutrin:
"Metabolic
Very common (10% or more of users): Weight loss greater than 2.3 kg (up to 28%), weight gain greater than 2.3 kg (up to 11%)
Common (1% to 10% of users): Anorexia, decreased appetite, increased appetite"
I would think that if Wellbutrin worked well for you with no weight change you might want to stick with what you know.
Thanks, Wildcat. I have a slight blood pressure issue now, also due to stress, and I read that wellbutrin can increase blood pressure, so i'm thinking I should try Celexa. It's all pretty confusing, and I understand that the medications affect everyone in different ways. I wish it were easier!
Hypertension is uncommon with Celexa so that may be the better choice for you. They're both good antidepressants so Celexa could work very well.
Don't we all wish for that magic pill that is always effective with no side effects... and doesn't cost $$$$$? Maybe some day we'll all be taking it!
