I had nisson fundoplication surgery in 2002 and now have barretts. This last fall I had pain near my surgery, upper stomach area. Doctor put me on carafate after me trying several gerd meds. It told the pain right away, I take it in the morning and before bedtime. Had a scope in Oct, every looked good. I also have some costochondritis that causes upper chest pain, advil can take care of that, it just takes a few days. I don't care to take meds either but soreness and pain scares me also with having barretts. Will stay on carafate for a month or so more and try stop it. I do not have an ulcer.
If you are unhappy with what your doctor has diagnosed and prescibed get a second opinion especially if you still have the pain.
