Hi, Shirley!
All psychotropic medications (antidepressants, antipsychotics, anti-anxiety) affect the chemicals in your brain which are unbalanced in the individual in the first place. In effect, they help "reboot" your brain's functions to normal levels.
In the literature I found two references to trigeminal neuralgia... one that buspirone can actually help alleviate some types of pain. There were a couple of reports that indicated that buspirone may potentially have caused trigeminal neuralgia in a couple of rare cases.
I'm partial to buspirone because I've' taken it for years with great results and minimal if any side effects.
