I was prescribed bupropion HCL 75mg, my pc said this drug would help me from Alzheimer's. He stated since my cholesterol was high, he recommend using bupropion now. I said ok, fine. I came home to research the uses of this drug and found nothing but treatment for depression. Please help if there are uses for high cholesterol with this drug.
What are some other uses for Bupropion, other than solely for depression?

"It is approved for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD), seasonal affective disorder (SAD), and to help people quit smoking (smoking cessation)."
"Off-label uses (non-FDA approved) for bupropion include posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), social phobia, and nerve pain (neuropathic pain)."
With regards to your cholesterol levels, I suggest Crestor to lower your bad cholesterol (LDL ) and increase the good one (HDL), talk to your DR. about it.
I suggest you ask your Dr. about Crestor for your cholesterol.
Dearest Masso, thanks for your answer. I did get some sort of satisfaction from it. I do not have any depressive disorders, I have never been diagnosed with any disorder that requires a "depressive" medication. That is why I couldn't figure out why he would give it to me. Thanks a lot. I am better prepared to question him as to the effectiveness against weight gain (high cholesterol).
You are welcome.
Actually it can cause decreased appetite and weight loss in about 30% of users... but only greater than 5 pounds. Certainly not the drug of choice for someone who needs to shed a large amount of weight.
Bupropion is used to treat depression especially Major Depressive Disorder, Seasonal Affective Disorder, as a smoking cessation aid, and also sometimes for anxiety disorders.
Your doctor probably prescribed it because of the antidepressants bupropion is less apt to increase cholesterol levels.
Thanks for your help in understanding the primary use of Bupropion HCL 75mg. I have never been diagnosed for treatment for any depressive disorders. My concern was, if I needed a weight loss medicine, surely Bupropion isn't it. I am better armed to suggest something else, even Crestor.
Thanks again.
