I am currently taking Celexa which has stopped working for sometime now, in fact probably for a couple of years. I'm so housebound and never want to do anything anymore and I used to be an avid hiker as I live in a beautiful mountain community but I haven't hiked in over 6 yrs, I need help badly. Would love to hear some feedback from some of you...

Hi Hiker: I am taking wellbutrin sr 150mg twice a day, as the xl version kept me awake at night. As to the comment of drinking alcohol while taking it, I used to drink socially, with my doctor's knowledge, and she said it was ok in moderation. As a matter of fact, Wellbutrin is the antidepressant that I have had the most success and relief with, and it has had the least amount of side effects for me. It's a good antidepressant for motivation. I was like you at one time, housebound and not enjoying the things I used to love to do. But last week I went to a wedding, and yesterday I helped a friend clean her house. It has been a very helpful medication for me. It's definitely worth a try! "G"
I'm unclear. Did you drink 1 or 2 glasses of alcohol with 2 WB SR 150s & it didn't give you any SEs? I know WB & drinking has come up many times on this site. Thanks. I just love a glass of wine or 2 occasionally.
Wanna, I was going through a very traumatic time in my life. So I told my doctor not to give me anything that I couldn't drink alcohol with, because I wasn't ready to give up social drinking at the time. She and other doctors said it was ok. I asked about seizures being a concern? My doctor told me that she had many patients who were on much higher doses than 300mg of wellbutrin. And this was many years ago. But I don't want to encourage mixing alcohol with medications. Each person should discuss this subject with their own doctors and heed their advice.
Thanks. My doc probably would not recommend it. It's the only AD that says on the bottle do not drink. The others say that it could cause drowsiness or impair thinking.
Wanna, I understand what you're saying. In my case, I took Wellbutrin for years, prescribed by many different doctors, and every one of them allowed me to drink alcohol responsibly while taking it, with no problem.
I know we are all different, but for you when you had 2 drinks you felt OK w/the WB? Thanks. I know one drink would be better. I wish that I had a Psych doc, but I only have a very busy GP. I only stayed on the WB 2 wks & quit bc I wanted a glass of wine & I wasn't feeling any better (actually worse), but my goal would be 4 wks on the WB before I would quit. I wish I had a friend that would help me clean my house. That was very nice of you.
As a footnote, I'm not advocating the use of alcohol with prescription medications. Just stating that in some cases, doctors don't have a problem with combining them in moderation. But, with that said, I am not drinking alcohol with my meds presently or for quite a long time now, and I don't plan to, because personally I think the medications are more effective without the use of alcohol, which is a known depressant. Why do anything that might inhibit the effectiveness of a treatment... "G"
Thanks Wanna. I did't feel like cleaning before.
At this point in my life, I really want to give my meds a chance to be as effective as they can be. So, even though it didn't affect me badly in the past, and it didn't cause me to have a seizure, I think it's much better to not mix alcohol with antidepressants. Kinda like this: I don't like to get mud on me, but I'm gonna jump in a mud puddle anyway just to see if I can come out clean? Kinda defeats the purpose...
I would of private msged you, but this site only allows me to answer a private msg not write one. I read others have this prob also.
Hi, Celexa worked for me when I took it when I was much younger. Now I've been taking it for a month & realize that it is not doing anything... no motivation. I was taking 10 mg then 20 mg & it made no difference. What is your dose? Some people say that it works at 40 mg but I never tried that. I tried Bupropion SR 150 for 2 wks & was getting worse, but I really should of given it at least a month to know if it would help. To be honest I also wanted to have a glass of wine which should not be done w/Wellbutrin. Since everyone is different you could give Wellbutrin a try. A lot of people have success on it. Sometimes a low dose of WB is given w/a low dose of Celexa. I know how you feel bc I was once also very active & don't do much now. You are not alone.
