I take Adderall 30mg daily and the brand I get at my local Ma & Pa pharmacy is TEVA. My experience has been positive.
As for Mallinckrodt--I've heard nothing but bad press from other group members, and now you've stepped up to the proverbial plate and added your horror story. As a patient--and a customer--you have the right to insist on receiving the brand you wish. If they jerk you around--look for another pharmacy. I suggest the grass-roots Ma Pa pharmacies; they get to know you and you get to know them.
I did a bunch of research in my panic state and ended up getting the correct brand the next time I went to the pharmacy. There was a shortage of the Teva brand at the end of last month, which should be resolved by now. I also did a comparison of the ingredients on the Corepharma (which I was eventually ok with after a short transition period), Mallinckrodt, Teva, and Aurolife. The Mallinckrodt has a much shorter "inactive" ingredients list and is very similar to the Corepharma. The main difference between Corepharma/Mallinckrodt & Teva is Teva uses Amphetamine Aspartate Monohydrate as opposed to Amphetamine Aspartate. It takes more of the former to equal the latter. As we know, we are very sensitive beings with incredibly on-point nervous systems, so it is definitely worthwhile to look into ingredients lists.
Another thing I'm going to go ahead and share here, because I have seen many complaints that over time people feel like their product isn't working or that the formula changes, is that our ability to absorb the product is related to the acidity/alkalinity of our respective digestive tracts. For anyone feeling like they need a nap shortly after, make sure you aren't having anything acidic first thing in the morning. No grapefruit juice or orange juice. When I learned that thing (a while ago, but then forgot) it was a game changer. I lived most of my life with morning OJ but happily gave it up for a fully working brain.
Best of luck to everyone. OH. and last thing to note. Teva's "license" for their Adderall expires in December 2020. Not to create some kind of panic. But just have some backup plans in case they opt out or do a company swap as before when Barr became Teva several years ago and most people got swapped to Corepharma.
Very interesting information. Thank you for sharing. Where did you get the information to compare the ingredients used? I think all of our brain chemistry responds differently to different chemical compounds & formulas used in these drugs. It was only the corePharma brand that worked well for me. All the other brands were like poison, different strengths made no difference. It was the formula itself. Now that the new company Epic Pharma LLC is making the CorePharma brand again, I need to be able to make sure it is the same as before. As I previously said I don't know how to find a pharmacy in my network that will special order it & Epic can't tell me who they distribute it to. I've asked to speak to the department that deals with that area of sales & distribution but they don't seem to have that info. So frustrating!!!
Also, Adderall is very expensive for me to purchase even with my insurance. Any suggestions ?
I have also found it incredibly frustrating to get answer about where I *can* find the right version. I've known for a long time that there is a +/- 20% difference in generics and it is often the difference between humming along in a functional fashion or being a puddle of waste on the floor. This is unacceptable. I am at my wit's end again over trying to locate the Teva brand. I find that what often happens is when the distributor wants to offload a brand they make everything else unavailable regardless of if the manufacturer has a shortage. The other thing that happens is every five or seven years companies go out of business altogether as happened when barr transitioned to teva and for a while the corepharma version worked well for me. So, can anyone answer me, who's the new corepharma so I can at least go that route.
The aurolife brand is a disaster for me and given the online reviews I'm completely unwilling to even give Mallinckrodt a try. I've called McKesson and Teva to try and figure it out but alas it is near EOD Friday. The thing that gives me the most anxiety is every time I have to fill my prescription, not knowing if I'll have to go on another wild goose chase, where often when I call a pharmacy I am treated like a drug addicted nobody rather than the incredibly sane, rule following person I am.
I am so upset. A 20% difference in a medication that governs my brain and ability to control impulses is a BIG difference. I feel powerless right now.
I have done tons of research looking for CorePharma since the company stopped making it about 2 years ago. It was the only drug that worked for me due to the only right compounds in the formula that worked with my brain chemistry. Every other brand made me sick & had the adverse effect of making my problems 10× worse. So for two years I have taken nothing & suffered with my adult ADHD & all the problems that go along with that.
After tons of calls & research I found out that a company called
EPIC PHARMA LLC is making the CorePharma Amphetamine Salts brand. My biggest question has been if the same formula is as before. I'm told yes but I can't be sure. The worse part now is trying to find a pharmacy in my network that will order it & keep it in stock for me. CVS, the pharmacy I always us for my RX's told me they cannot special order & they only carry the Ab... brand of Adderall. Sorry!
I would LOVE answers to these questions, PLEASE!
Has anyone who once took CorePharma recently been given the CorePharma Amphetamine Salts now made by the Epic Pharma Co. If so does it seem to be the same formula?? What drugstore or pharmacy did you get it at?
How can a person get a pharmacy in your insurance network to special order it. The company that makes the drug told me that it can only come from a pharmacy's wholesaler but they absolutely can't tell me what chains they sell it to. I'm so frustrated. I'd be grateful for any information.
The Mallinckrodt generic is by far the Worst of All manufacturers of amphetamine salts.
In my nearly 50 years of pharmacy practice, this is today the most common complaint.
The FDA allows a +/- 20 discrepancy between like generics and I believe this one exceeds the most under performing.
I urge you to report it to the FDA at 1-809-FDA-1088.
They depend on reports from patients and health providers to provide this information.
It's the only way they will conduct a thorough investigation.
Do it for yourself and the many others so affected
Can you site any references it's like trying to find top secret information with this stuff! It's like everyone's afraid to talk about it! I'm calling the FDA right now about that HORRID experience I just had with Aurobindo WORSE than the Mallinckrodt!
Mallinckrodt is the WORST!! I got so sick from it! And it didnt work, made me tired and feel ill. I suffered for months before realizing what was happening. Finally talking with my Dr we realized it was the Mallinckrodt crap drug. Who knows whats really in it. I even reported it to the FDA and the company. I too was taking Teva 30mg for years and then was switched to a different generic (not my request, just what was available) which was ok. Then this horrible white pill!! Thankfully my pharmacy got Teva back in! I wish you well and hope this helps!
Thanks!! I will definitely call the pharmacy before the doctor refills my prescription! I see him next week. The sad part I called the pharmacy asking them if that was all they sold and she said yes at this time we use what they send us. So then I went and did some more research and saw all the complaints so I decided to call back and speak to the pharmacist out of common courtesy thinking I was helping to tell her about all the complaints. This pharmacist said it has the same chemical components if not the fda wouldn’t approve it. Well I was a little set back because she had the attitude like I was just a prescriber and I didn’t know anything. I am pretty certain I am changing pharmacies because I wasn’t rude but I said I didn’t care what the fda said I know it isn’t the same it made me sick.
She said well that is all we have but that is a lie because I just transferred to this pharmacy and the prescription before was the orange Teva brand! I am by no means a rude nor am I a know it all but I strongly dislike people like her. I know what it did to me.
Amazing. I'm having same issues. The treat us like we are stupid criminals. Its unethical!
Yes. It is absolutely horrible to be treated badly when I'm just looking for help functioning. I was able to sleuth my way to finding Teva once before. The differences are severe. The treatment that I get just inquiring about filling my rx properly though is also really unfair and unpleasant and additionally frustrating.
I am having the same issue with the medications they are giving me in place of the Teva and I too have contacted the pharmacy and received basically the same reaction from the pharmacy person I spoke with. She was rude and acted as though I was a nuisance. I certainly hope the pharmacies in my area gets the Teva back. I can't find in anywhere locally.
