I have been on 1mg alprazolam for years and it has been the only thing that will help my anxiety and panic disorder. My pharmacist has always had the alprazolam made by Greenstone and then without any warning he switched to a different brand (Actavis) and when I got home and took my next 1mg of alprazolam made by Actavis it didn't work after talking this new brand my pharmacist switch to (Actavis) i started to feel like i was having withdrawals. can somebody tell me if they're having the same problem that I'm having with this brand? Can somebody tell me why this brand does not perform like the greenstone brand? I know it's not just me because I I had 3 of the Greenstone brand left over in a bottle from a month prior and I took them and immediately could tell I took my medication but now I am back on the brand that does not work (Actavis) I'm having problems with my anxiety and panic attacks. Is there anyway I can contact Actavis and tell them the problem that I am having?
Has anyone else been having a problem with 1mg alprazolam made by Actavis?

I have used Activis brand alprazolam, for years, and it has worked great. However, my pharmacy has changed to a different generic. They gave me the greenstone script a year or so ago, and it did nothing. When my anxiety gets bad, I pass out, so have to have this med. They have also changed their generic brand of Bupropion. I do not understand, I thought generics were the same as name brand, and supposed to be cheap(er), definitely not so, nor are generics the same. The Activis Bupropion I have been getting went from $21. to $250. I can no longer afford the meds I desperately need.
Pharmacies carry the least expensive generic when they order to save you money. Most will special order the brand you prefer but it may cost you a little more. Or your doctor can specify which generic to dispense.
While the active ingredient is the same in generics different manufacturers may use different inactive ingredients which may cause problems with absorption of the drug. Some people report that what they're taking doesn't work as well as what they're used to or may cause side effects.
My bupropion costs about $30 but I paid substantially more for my first refills this year because I had to meet my insurance deductible for the year. Your jump in price must be a mistake somewhere!
Just for the record I take the Slate Run version of bupropion and it's worked well for years.
I prefer Greenstone (alprazolam) because they are consistent, seem time-released (at least for me), and the cleanest form of this particular drug, next to Xanax itself. It is made by Pfizer, and good quality. I've had Breckinridge and it's okay, much better than this brand I got early last year by the name of Aurobindo, after my pharmacy chain switched to that particular generic brand. It was horrible. I'm being kind in giving it a 'C' rating. It would immediately begin to dissolve like a baby aspirin the minute it hit your mouth. Horrible generic, cheaply made, and inconsistent with their batches. It's no fun being anxious and taking something to help... and it let's you down. I never like taking my regular dosage, and it makes it a tad bit harder. I hope Greenstone and some pharmacies will recognize their customers' needs, but I'm sure it comes down to the dollar. ps I'm new to doing this sort of thing, so forgive me for being so wordy.
I am also having a problem with the generic for alazopram by Actavis it is not just a bad batch their alazopram is trash. Every time I get these it’s awful! I am prescribed 0.5’s and whatever is in the Actavis brand doesn’t do anything! I’m upset because I just filled my script and got a terrible surprise when I opened it and saw they gave me the Actavis ones. I actually prefer Breckenridge for a generic those actually help my anxiety attacks and I can even break the 0.5’s in half. I wish I could bring the Actavis ones back (yeah I know not possible) this whole month will be a mess for me with these placebo pills.
I liked the Breckenridge brand , the one month I got them.
Yes I had severe problems which included a complete lack of efficacy.
Although it is very difficult to find a generic that is stable and has good efficacy, I have found that Teva is the best.
Avoid Mallinckrodt
Thank God I decided to look this up. Thank you thank you thank you for posting. I used to have Actavis all the time it was the only one Walgreens used then they changed to Sandoz and they were great. Then I changed to a new pharmacy that had Actavis and I didn’t think much of its last Sunday it started. I’ve been up at night shaking and going through what seems like withdrawals. I’m jittery and feel out of my mind. I only take .5mg and have for 16 years. Was always PRN but last few years it’s been daily. And now out of the blue I’m experiencing horrible feelings. Must be something in the new Actavis fillers or something. Back to Sandoz I go. I am so scared and feel so weird. This is not right I wish companies wouldn’t change formulas like this.
Yes, my spouse and I have both been having problems with the Actavis version. My doctor prescribed both of us the 0.5mg Alprazolam BID for a few years now. I typically can get by with only 0.25mg before bedtime. The pharmacy recently switched to Actavis and now I need to take a full pill before bed--and it is STILL NOT as effective as 0.25mg of the previous version--and I now have had crazy dreams all night leaving me exhausted in the morning. My spouse has switched to taking 2 of the 0.5mg pills before bed. I found a few pills of my previous brand and took 0.25mg last night. I woke up with a slight headache, but no crazy dreams. I don't know who you complain to, but back in 2012, my spouse and I both had a similar experience with Teva's generic version of 300mg Wellbutrin XL and I do know that with enough complaints, the FDA deemed Teva's version of Wellbutrin to not be "therapeutically equivalent".
Maybe you need to register a complaint with the FDA and meanwhile find a pharmacy that is covered by your insurance that dispenses a version by a different manufacturer. Also, medical professionals need to learn to listen to their patients when they complain about a specific generic drug. Most times there is no difference between generics, but sometimes there is a BIG difference.
Wow, I thought I was crazy, but thought I’d google it just to see! I’ve been feeling like i’ve been going through withdrawals when taking my 0.5 Actavis alprazolam, but when I take my old 0.25 Sandoz alprazolam from 2016 (yeah, expired) it works so much better! I thought I was building a tolerance, until I realized that my anxiety hasn’t been this bad until Walmart switched manufacturers. I’ve been wanting to call around to different pharmacies to see what they carry, but I’m too embarrassed that they’ll think I’m a junkie. I’m miserable though. Hyperventilating, having muscle twitches and panic attacks. Always tired. This should be illegal. Hope everyone finds some relief soon!
Did you get this resolved? I just called my pharmacist and asked to give me a different brand. The problem is once the panic attacks start you have to go through the whole deciding if your symptoms are anxiety or withdrawals and start all over. I switched back to my previous brand but still am having issues. All out of the blue too. This is so annoying. I had Actavis for years with no issues and then all of a sudden.
Yes, I have had the very same problem with Actavis brand - I had been taking Greenstone alprazolam (which is owned by Pfizer) and doing fine. But when I switched to Actavis, it was like I was taking nothing, and I felt like I was going into withdrawal, with increasing anxiety verging on panic. Plus Actavis alprazolam leaves grit in your mouth if you dissolve it under your tongue (which I prefer to do as that's faster acting), whereas Greenstone alprazolam dissolves fast and completely, leaving no trace of debris. I see that Actavis alprazolam is marked as "discontinued" - as it should be - because it is worthless and trashy. Back to Greenstone only.
Honest truth about Generics, I was told by my now retired Doctor years ago, when I was taking brand name Xanax 1MG 2x daily. When generics started to happen across the board, I do not recall the manufacturer then, but after taking it within <2 days I was feeling something isn't right. I called my Dr. as he asked if I received the Generic in stead of the Brand name. When I got home from work, I called him the next day it was some sort of off label generic. He mentioned that is the culprit, additives in all generics are not equal than the Original he has seen other patients with the same outcome. Luckily I was able to get the Brand name covered again. Fast forward to 2021, same holds true on Generics. The FDA is aware of this, but will not step up for all generic labels to make sure the inactive ingredients and % are the same. Key as many of you have mentioned, our chemistries are different. I did have Sandoz for 5 years and surprisingly worked as well as name brand.
Then the pharmacy said they cannot bring it in anymore. So no I am back on the Brand Name thank God for good insurance.
Breckenridge generic Xanax is absolute garbage. It is now the predominant generic. Kroger, CVS, Rite Aid, and others.
It does not work. I am an essential worker. The Greenstone generic did what it was supposed to do. Reduce or eliminate my anxiety. Breckenridge does neither. There needs to be an investigation as to why this brand generic has so many complaints.
I hope the poster was correct in stating I could get ANYTHING OTHER THAN BRECKENRIDGE at an independent or smaller pharmacy chain.
It is true that small, independent pharmacies may be able to get the Greenstone generic xanax for you. It is by far the best. All it is missing is the xanax stamp. That's it. Exactly the same as the brand name.
I have been on the Actavis generic for years and Walgreens just switched to Sandoz for my prescription a week ago. It has been horrible. It's not working and Walgreens says that they no longer have a contract with Actavis and that they have not distributed the Brand Xanax for 20 years. This is remarkable that the "business of pharmaceuticals" is above "quality of consumer care" or is it ...

I just looked into this... glad I'm not the only one!
I have taken actavis for years. Recently been switched to Breckenridge which did nothing for my panic and anxiety at all, then Sandoz... And I swear I haven't been the same since...
I found a piece of my old actavis in my night stand, and that small piece relieved my panic/racing heart as the Sandoz was not doing anything...
Anxiety and panic attacks are intensified, they are not being relieved it is miserable. And I don't know what to do. Cannot live like this!
Any luck finding any solutions?
I am having this exact issue!!! So glad I googled this and found someone else. Did you ever figure it out? Costco just started using their alprazolam and it does not work I feel like I’m having withdrawals!
Best bet is to find a pharmacy that distributes the same as what has been working for you. Don't try telling a doctor or a pharmacist what you are saying here. They will think it is in your head. Solve it by just ordering the scrip yourself if allowed or have your doctors people order it for you from the pharmacy you know only prescribes what your body needs. Also never try to separate mind and body to medical professionals they don't believe in that. All of you are fortunate it sounds like to have something besides VA hospital Doctors and no other form of insurance. I have to take what they give me and not complain.
I am dealing with the exact opposite experience right now. I have been taking generic Xanax made by the manufacturer Activis for the past 3 years, and Walgreens just switched the manufacturer to Greenstone. Let me tell you, it was hell for the first 2-3 days I had a horrific headache I couldn’t get rid of, felt super tired and bit of the withdrawal symptoms (adverse effects, like pure anxiety).
After time I think our bodies get used to and form a dependence on the exact formula of the generic Xanax and filler bonded with it, so even the slightest change to the filler makes us feel “off”.
The good news is that I have been through this experience before and it does get better after a few days. Within a week your body should be adjusted to the new formula. Good luck to you!
The same thing happened to me, It’s really causing problems with my quality of Life. I really wish they would just stop messing with the medications
I just want to thank all of you who commented on this post, as well as the original poster. Actavis has been awful for me for the past year and not sure when it got switched up on me. I'd asked my pharmacy about their other generics 6 months ago and was told Dava was the only other one. Now, today--- a pharmacist I'm buddies with looked up Greenstone and ordered it for me -- next up will be insurance not covering it knowing my luck... but this thread helped me to figure out that Actavis is the culprit, as i have some other things I thought it could have possibly been as well... now I'm convinced-- thanks so much!
