Chains and local have mentioned a shortage. I'm thankful I got mine filled two weeks ago. I would like to know if this is widespread. I am mainly referring to the BARR manufacturer, the peach color 20 mg IR. At this point I will take whatever they may have at my next refill. I really cannot stand this uncertainty.
Is anyone here also experiencing an Adderall generic IR shortage as of February 2019?

I only ask for the purpose of learning of whether or not this is something fairly small and random, or on a worrisome type of level, if that makes sense.
A coworker told me something that I cannot find any info about . She said the shortage had to do with the damage in Porto Rico, bc that’s where they are manufactured.... ? I know not to believe everything someone says, yet curious if that’s even remotely been heard of .
Thank y’all

While researching where to find a *true equivalent* generic methylphenidate (because my brand is now unavailable), I saw that two manufacturers of Long-acting Concerta were being looked at by the FDA because different versions of the drug use a different chemical, "delivery system" and according to the FDA, theirs were inferior long-acting delivery process, making the medicine shorter acting (and inconsistent?). The makers said they stand by their products and will not pull them from shelves. The FDA says the drugs are not harmful, just not as good and wants them pulled. FDA contends that Long-acting versions of drugs take more manufacturing expertise; insinuating that these two versions are not up to par. Because of the situation, some pharmacies may not be dispensing these versions. There *could* be a similar situation with your extended release Adderall and maybe if you do your own research you can find out. Hope this helps.
Extended Release is not what we are having problems obtaining. It's the IR meds that are out of stock and backordered everywhere. Thanks for the info, anyhow.
I am in Tennessee- shortage here, also. I went to my regular Publix pharmacy on 2/4 to refill and they told me about the shortage. I normally take 3 20 mg IR daily- Teva brand. They recommended to call and find out what pharmacies DID NOT carry Teva brand, because that is what is backordered. They also said they thought CVS carried a different brand. I ended up getting my refill at CVS and it has been horrible. The brand is Aurobindo and they do absolutely nothing. In fact, the only thing that keeps me from thinking they may be completely placebo, is that I feel WORSE: more scattered, increased fluid retention, and increased drowsiness. They literally put me to sleep. I have been on Adderall for 10 years and I am certain that these pills are not regulated properly, and do not fall within the percentage of active ingredients “required” by generics. An extra dose does not increase effectiveness. Pharmacies are selling us fake pills like they were pressed in someones basement. This is absurd.
Southern California here {20mg / IR / Teva-Generic} ... Today, 4 days AFTER I handed over my paper script to my regular WalMart pharmacist they told me, "sorry, it's back-ordered at the warehouse, we have no idea when we'll have it". It took an 'act of congress' to get the paper script back and now every pharmacy I have checked in with is telling me they have no idea when they will get more, but when they do, it will go to their regular customers. -- This is definitely a situation that could adversely effect my job and employment status, so I'm at a loss as to what to do now.
Hey - Publix told me the same BS about their "regular customers" despite me BEING A DA*# REGULAR CUSTOMER!!! I even had be given a partial fill of what they had left. The following Monday , they already ran out without even filling the rest of mine . I will say that my pharmacy was being helpful in that they were giving 10 mgs without anyone having to get a doctor to rewrite such. They were genuinely trying their hardest to get them filled, and I am so relieved I was able to get the rest of mine a few days later.
Check with your pharmacies every single day, they will get them in stock randomly then run out quick fast. I hope you've been able to get yours already.
I can’t get a “partial fill” when they only have some because they tell me they’re not aloud to partial fill controlled substance. If they partial fill then I lose the rest of the script!
That’s clearly different policies, the PUBLIX I go to did a partial fill. I would never ever suggest a partial refill if it meant only those and not the remaining. I specifically had the option. On the bottle is showed as 12/60 . I would not ever say do to the partial fill if you could not get all of them, I’m not a complete dunderhead.
I am in Jacksonville, Florida area and have not been able to fill my 20 mg generic Adderall since my Dr. prescribed it to me on February 1st. This is RIDICULOUS.
Try going to a local neighborhood pharmacy. Sometimes they will use a different warehouse than larger companies.
For 2 months I’ve been having the same problem. I called my DR who said this was widespread and many ppl are calling in for the same issue of the medication being backordered (none in stock and no idea when it will be in). I tried Walmart who said that the extended release was available but not the IR. My prescription is for IR 20mg like all of the other ppl are writing the peach oval ones in a generic. I live in Orlando with a countless number of pharmacies and all chains are saying the same thing.
(Walmart pharmacist stated it’s walmart as a whole in this area that’s completely out not just their store)
Last month I was able to fill my generic Adderall prescription of 20mg at a local family pharmacy in DC. The only problem was the manufacturer is Aurobindo instead of Teva. Pharmacist said Teva wasn’t in stock. Not a fan of Auro at all!
As of a couple weeks ago every pharmacy in our area (Eastern Idaho) was “back-ordered” on the 20mg Teva/Barr pills. They did have the 10mg Teva/Barr’s then, but I just called the only pharmacy open this late on Saturday’s (Walmart) and they are currently out of the 10mg, 20mg, and 30mg generic (Teva/Barr). They said they have gotten some in since last week even as recently as yesterday, but already ran out. I see this as a good sign though, since there’s at least some movement as far as restocking is concerned. And to clarify it is only the Teva/Barr generic that is in short supply, they said they have plenty of brand name in stock, and we filled at Albertsons a week or so ago since they stock Sun Pharmaceuticals as their generic instead of Teva/Barr.
I'm in the Atlanta area and there's also a shortage here. My sister is a pharmacist in SC and she said it's the same there. They can't get any 10mg or 20mg in.
What the Hell is going on?? I take Adderall for narcolepsy and this is a nightmare!
Same here in NC. Called to refill and was told it’s backordered until March. So frustrated.
Central Alabama all big name pharmacy's r out of 20mg & 30mg but, I found 30mg at family pharmacy. I usually get 20mg but my Dr. Was aware of shortage and changed my dosage but still wasn't easy to find.
Health Mart pharmacy they r all independently owned & operated here.
I’m in central Alabama as well.
Publix had 12 left and said the shortage was over , they promised they’d fill the rest . It’s marked on the paperwork as “PF” so atleast there is evidence,
I was worried I should not have taken the 12 partial fill. I will know on Monday.
My Walmart received some a few days ago. I didn’t bother checking, but when I went to get my other medications I asked them and they said they were gone quickly. But maybe this is a good sign . I hope.
The 12 from Publix are the peach 20 mg.
I read somewhere that corepharma is no longer manufacturing generic amphet. salts. I’ve most the time had the “teva/BARR” peach 20s, but occasionally received the corepharma, which was a light pink for the 20s .
Maybe this has something to do with it? Thank you for your input.
I get 30mg and ALWAYS have trouble finding it! Spend the day riding from pharmacy to pharmacy because they won’t “can’t” tell you over the phone if it’s in stock!
Because it’s a controlled substance I think it’s because their afraid they’ll be robbed?
In Marietta, Georgia. I have been having trouble for 2 months. My pharmacy that I had been using forever said see if my doctor could switch me to a different dose altogether, or to two 10 mg instead of 1 20 mg (That would cost double).
When I told my doctor, he said they were not on national backorder and that my pharmacy was trying to make extra money. I then had it sent to Pubilx, where my husband has been filling his. They said the same thing. They said they could fill it this time, but they didn't know when they would get more.
Called several pharmacies in the area, but all said the same thing. There is clearly a shortage that isn't being reported for some reason. I am going to see if my doctor will up my dose a little so that I don't have any gaps in my meds. It seems to only be the 20 mg IR. I also take 20 mg XR, and there have been no issues with that one.
30 mg. completely out of stock.
Hey I'm not sure if I can add anything to my original post- put I just wanted to mention that FINALLY the FDA has reported the shortage !!!
Alabama - can confirm all pharmacist claim a shortage on adderall (generic) in 20mg and 30mg. Name brand is unaffected according to their stock in store and warehouse.
Pharmacist(s) told me to have my script changed to 10mg. Called the doctor and he said the same. Apparently 10mg is plentiful at the moment. Everything else is short.
Kudos to your pharmacist who told you about the 10 mg. workaround. My Publix pharm could have cared less about me, even though I have been getting a ton of meds regularly from them for years. A different Publix pharm told me if they got any in, it would go to their "regulars" first, even though my meds are regularly filled at a different Publix. And WalMart pharm would not even tell me over the phone if they had any, they said I had to come into the store.
I’m in Alabama as well. I forgot to add that in original question. This is unacceptable . My Publix said they got some in, they filled 12/90 and promised they’d have the rest on Monday .
It’s marked as “partial fill” so I’m not as concerned but still feel like I shouldn’t have chosen them to fill 12.
They had told me they had enough a bit before I went. They also said the shortage is over, it’s just a matter of getting everyone caught up.
My walmart also received a shipment a few days ago (are out now) so *MAYBE*
this is a good sign. The 12 I received are the peach 20mg .
South Florida DEFINITELY has a shortage. Got prescription yesterday and didn't know about the shortage until I was about to leave my doctor's office. Went to 10 different pharmacies until 9PM last night and every one said the same thing. "Backordered". If anyone knows where to find it, please let us know. My wife needs her prescription today and she has a really hard time when she runs out. I'll be taking off work to find a pharmacy that has this much needed medicine.
Southern New Hampshire here and to answer your question, yes. All pharmacies I have called said that they are back ordered and don’t know when they will be getting it in. This is awful.
I also live in Southern NH! Is there a way to private message you, I have a few questions regarding our are and need advice?
In west coast Florida. Have called six pharmacies this morning, all are out of Adderall, none know when they will get it, it is "backordered." I never dreamed this could happen, I received my refill script a week ago and put off getting it filled because I still had some left at home. After reading just now about the shortage in 2011 caused by the manufacturers, I wonder if we will get these scripts filled any time soon.
Hey I'm not sure if I can add anything to my original post- put I just wanted to mention that FINALLY the FDA has reported the shortage !!!
No shortage in Massachusetts, one time about 6 months ago, back to normal ever since
WOW on the FDA reporting a shortage and Mass. not having any probs. Neither does Michigan. It is though tight after the summer months though because the kids are back in school and again are mostly taking it. Word has it that the manufacturer Mallinkroft (spelling) is terrible! Many, many side effects or no effect at all. Others who have experience have more experience with this than I do. Good luck. I wish you the best.
PS - Try Costco. (If I am posting in the incorrect place, apologies.)
I too am on West Coast FL, and thought there was a shortage once. But given this is one of their largest sellers, they shouldn't be out of it. However, a pharmacist told me they want to retain regular customers, so if you keep refilling at the same place, they probably won't ever be out. If you call places, they'll always say they're out because they are paranoid. So just be a regular customer and they'll always have for you, right on time!
