I tapered off cymbalta and took my last dose 16 days ago. The cymbalta started the anxiety and it has been getting worse the longer I am off it. I was at the hospital this morning and hard a terrible panic attack. They gave me Ativan which slowly helped and when my doctor got there he gave me buspirone 5 mg to take 3 times a day. Will that help me? What kind of side effects can I expect and what should I look out for?
Has anyone else taken it for anxiety and did it help or hurt the problem?
Has anyone taken Buspirone for anxiety and panic attacks?

Hey girl! It didn't really work for me at all. However my anxiety is extreme. I take Clonazepam ( Klonopin), which you know is in the Benzo family, but is the only thing that helps. It's been a lifesaver for me. I got headaches on Buspirone. I hope you get some relief soon, hon. Anxiety/Panick attacks are awful. Praying for the best for you. SS83
It gave me really bad headaches. My bf it worked well up until his anxiety was beyond the maximum dosage.
Hi! I was put on buspirone during my junior year of hs and it helped so I stopped taking it during my senior year to see if id be alright. Just recently my anxiety came back terrible. I started to take my buspirone again today for the first time and im already feeling a little better
I started Buspirone four days ago. I'm taking 7.5mg at night for the first week, then 7.5mg in the AM and night for a week, then 7.5 in the AM and 15mg at night for a week, then 15mg in the AM and 15mg at night. So far I have experienced dizziness and nausea. It has really helped curb my appetite, which is out of control when I'm anxious and stressed. I have been sleeping a lot better the past few days. I haven't noticed any difference in my anxiety levels, but I'm not expecting to see a real difference for another month or so. I was on Wellbutrin for several months, but all that seemed to do was make me irritable and aggressive.
Poor "Q" I wish your doctor would have tapered you off your cymbalta. I actually thought they were supposed to. Anyway, let me know how the herbs work for you. Myself and my wonderful Mother-in-Law are always interested in learning about homeopathic remedies. Thanks and Good Luck H:-)un
Yes cymbalta is supposed to be tapered off slowly but eli lilly seems to have forgotten to update the doctors when they added the tapering info to the packaging insert last aug 2012.
It is a nasty drug to get off of.
I take bus par 30mg three times a day. The only thing that works with no side effects for me n my pstd. Honest to God, I don't leave home without it nor miss my psych spots to get my script.
Last time I tried to stop my cymbalta I had terrible panic attacks. I refuse to go off of it again until they are prepared to give me something stronger than Buspirone. As far as the Buspirone I have been told that it is an old school drug and it does not work for everyone. I have been on it for 5 years and I think it helps for the minor panic issues. As far as attacks from getting off of Cymbalta I would need something a little more heavy duty. As for dosage of Buspirone I am on 20 mg twice a day.
You are right it does seem to keep the everyday anxiety down to a bearable level but only lasts about 6 hours and then I can feel the anxiety biulding again.
I can handle a lot except chronic pain and panic attacks and of course I have to suffer from both! :(
Ive been on Buspar 60mg per day for a while now. It does wonders for my anxiety. Ive had no real side effects from it. I really hope it helps you like it did me.
Best of luck,
Tee
Thank you Tee for answering. I was really concerned about trying another med before getting a diagnosis for the other thing.
Anytime, hon. Im glad I could help. Keep me posted on how it goes.
Take care,
Tee
How long will it make me so sleepy lol
Hi lil sis.
I never really had any sleepiness with it. Give it a couple days to get in your system. Then it should level out and youll be ok. Keep me posted Hon!

PS Hi Big Sis!
Buspirone should help with anxiety and panic attacks, but everybody reacts to it differently.

have tried buspar for anxiety and panic attacks. for me, it was no better than a placebo. i even got rx from 2 manufacturers, i hoped maybe it was one of those junk generics but tried the 2nd and still it was like taking nothing. doctors rarely believe you when you mention side effects or no effects. so, my pharmacist said it was a good drug for congestion, like from allergies, but at the bottom of the pile for anxiety. that was my experience.
I was on valium for 14 years. It helped everything. No going to the hospital every week for panic attacks. DEA says we can't have valium with opiods, so they put me on buspar, it does not work at all

I know what you mean as I am now 17 days off cymbalta and still not sleeping much. I'm sure it wouldn't be so bad if I could sleep but so far nothing has helped me sleep more than a couple of hours at a time then I'm up wandering around for awhile.
Buspirone is great medication for anxiety for some people. It is a good alternative to taking the benzodiazepines like Ativan or Xanax.
