Was placed on Amitiza 24 mcg and almost immediately experienced coughing, dry mouth, tiredness, and swelling of ankles. Looked up side affects and found all of them listed. Question is, how long does it take before this stuff clears out from my system? I stopped taking 3 days ago and my feet still are swollen and I still have cough and dry mouth. Also have yet to have a good movement

Amitiza is used for the treatment of chronic constipation of unknown cause in adults and constipation caused by opioid medication. Very little of the drug is actually absorbed into the blood stream which means that any side effects you have experienced should disappear soon after stopping the medicine. Animal studies have shown that Amitiza is rapidly metabolised in the stomach and small intestine without any absorption into the bloodstream.
