I've been on zoloft 25 mg for two years and every time I see my doc he tries to up it telling me its not even a therapeutic dose. When I started the med I was feeling much worse anxiety/OCD then I am now so I feel it has helped. I'm sure I could feel better but I am anxious to up it, it was hard enough to take it at all since taking medications is a BIG hurdle for me. I do tend to be more of a light weight. Is anyone else on this low of a dose?
IS 25MG ZOLOFT a therapeutic dose for an adult?

My own experience (as an older male). Zoloft is the first antidepressant I've tried with a clearly useful effect for Persistent Depressive Disorder, and I'm about to change from 50 to 25 mg. I believe the effects are very dependent on the individual, so you just need to try for yourself.
50 mg Zoloft: significant effect (removal of severe emotional lows). Minor side effects (small reduction in sexual function).
100 mg Zoloft: also useful (additional focus/motivation). Significant sexual (erection and ejaculation) side effects (maybe retain 20% of full sexual function).
150 mg Zoloft: no obvious benefit, more reduction in sexual function (down to 5-10%).
I've reduced down to 50 mg and my mood is still fine, and sexual function is around 85%. So I'm about to try 25 mg. I probably won't report back, but this might be useful detail of one person's experience.
Kind of light weight too. I'm on 25mg as well. I have been on it to counter OCD for a couple of momths. Sounds like the same dose is working for you. It seems to take the edge off intrusive thoughts. So far my only noticable side effects are weight gain and very low libido. So I'm tolerating it well. The sexual side effects bother me. I was told they can go away. 25mg is the lowest possible. Have you noticed any of the mentioned side effects?
In 2012, I was put on a dose of 50mg Zoloft for around 9 months, then 25mg for 3 months before going off the drug. Within 3 months, severe anxiety returned so back I went on 50mg, then 25 mg and everything was fine. When the Doc tapered me down to 12.5 mg, symptoms returned.
Again back to 50 mg, then 25mg and then finally 12.5 mg for about 2 months when I did fine. I then made the mistake going off the drug and anxiety flared up again.
Right now I am on 25 mg but skipping the drug on alternate days so I am actually on about 12-15 mg and doing fine. I have established my own non drug self treatment regime.
I am convinced that certain treatments that are touted a cure all for anxiety are actually not helpful. I believe that mindfulness and certain thought challenging activities may exacerbate symptoms in certain individuals., especially OCD. I have about 1000+ hours of meditation practice so I do have some experience in that area.
Hello, Im curious to know what your non drug treatment regime is. Drugs have failed me time and time again. I found this forum looking for answers as Im considering going on Zoloft 25mg for PMDD. I just had a baby 6 months ago and the hormonoes are all out of whack. I just started to dabble with meditation and Im taking Primrose Oil. I’m not sure if there’s a way that we can message privately. I’m desperate!
I've been on a few anti-depressant/anti-anxiety medications over the years. Just started on Zoloft. Took 25 mg for a little over a month and doctor recommended moving to the 50 mg standard dose, which I took this morning. 25 mg really seemed to make a difference for me, and she said I should feel even better with 50. I'll report back. :) Hopeful.
25mg sertrline work OK 2 weeks in 4 weeks in not working as good is this still a side effect and will things get Better as I'm scared of upping to 50mg and if I did up to 50mg would I still have side effects
25 mg worked for me as well. When my doctor urged me to increase the dosage to 50 mg, I felt detached and "zoned out" every chance I got. As long as 25 mg keeps me feeling "normal," I will continue on that dosage. This medicine works for me, and allows me to cope while I am under an enormous amount of stress. I wish you all the best, and pray it works for you, too, whatever the dosage that is right for YOU!
So great to know! I’m not going to increase my dose. I’m staying at 25mg as well
The 25 mg of Zoloft is considered a child's dose. Nevertheless, while I was suffering suicidal anxiety, 25 mg helped me ENORMOUSLY. When my psychiatrist was emphatic that 50 mg was the therapeutic dose for adults, I complied. I began to "zone out." Every time I sat down I would just stare at the floor, or out the window. Everyone is different. 25 mg works for me, and keeps the anxious thoughts at bay. I listen to my body. I believe the majority of people when they say 50+ mg works for them. It just doesn't work for me.
The 50 truly don't work for me, so I just started taking half which is 25MG and that works better for me .
The thing you need to watch with Zoloft is whatever dose your on leave it alone my doctor had little to no exp. with these types of medication I started at 5 mg everytime I went back he would say did you notice a difference? I would say no and he would double it next thing I know it went from doing nothing to making me a zombie couldn't every find a correct dose took myself off of it and felt a lot better. One thing you have to watch and I've never seen anyone mention this or if was just me but marijuana and Zoloft adversely effect each other and things can get really bad hope this helps
My family doc was very open to my ideas and suggestions and really helped guide me through my SSRI journey; I'm very thankful for that. I sometimes say that I'm feeling like a "zombie" but I don't know how to quite explain it, because i can function and remember things and act 'normal'. Alcohol affects me differently while I'm on Zoloft. I took 100mg daily for about 6+ months, now I'm on 50mg daily for about the last 6 months.
25mgs is a very low dose I take 200mgs. I find they work well for me. You could try going up to 50mgs. Good luck
Its not a therapeutic dose. If you were taking 50 you'd probably feel even better. 25 is the starting dose.
Some one very close to me takes 150 mg. daily and it does the trick.
