25 mg amitriptyline hypnic jerk?

I totally agree! I did not have that or the same problem until I was on it too. Now I have to take a beta blocker the rest of my life... Mary

My doctor called back. She said that palpitations and tachardia(?) is a normal side effect. I don't know how this can be normal. I hate that this is making me feel better, but I am worried about the heart. And also asked if I was stressed. I will take it again tonight if it happens I will ask for something else. Thank you!

I am giving you the link for this drug & you will see it says it's a serious side effect. If your doctor doesn't believe it than print this out & take it too him/her. Please do not take it anymore... Mary

After reading the comments, and then looking at side effects I called the pharmacy. They said those are serious side effects; and to stop taking it since I havent been on it long and to Call doctor again on monday and ask for something different. I didnt take it last night. I was too scared. I got a panic attack thinking about it. But what do you know. I slept fine. No "falling and fast heart beat"

I am angry that my doctor would say it is ok to still take this. Clearly it is not. Now I am questioning my doctors care. Fast heart rate is not a common side effect it is a "rare" one. I was having tingling and numbness in my fingertips, as well as "blockage in my ears" the hearing was dull. Those are RARE side effects also.

Welcome! Can't believe these doctors prescribe stuff they don't even know the side effects of, & now the FDA wants to put 1/2 of them OTC!

I have had that fleeting feeling of falling that wakes me up as I am falling to sleep since on Elavil as well. Not but a handful of times and I think that is the only side effect. I have to say,though, how grateful I am for the group here who watch each other's backs. I am so glad that we have people on here like pledge and Mary to offer good advice to help prevent lizzybet29 from some irrevocable harm!

I think that feeling of falling or jerk is you pre REM sleep thing going on, & you need REM sleep badly. So try to relax before bedtime, & try a couple of benadry before you go to bed, about 20 minutes or so. I think you will notice a difference... Mary
