For Light Sedation "This does the job for stressful periods of insomnia, but I wouldn’t recommend it if you have something important to wake up for the next morning - one 25 mg pill makes me feel drowsy for hours after waking."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Do not use this medication for anyone over 60. My mother was given this in the hospital for a mild nauseous feeling. I think they thought she would be sedated by it. She is elderly. This drug put her into a terrible state of hallucinations, delirium, and all-around restlessness for about 8 hours. It’s awful. She would have been better off with Tums. Be aware of all the side effects."

For Nausea/Vomiting "For uncontrolled nausea and vomiting that has been diagnosed as a migraine variant, the Phenergan suppository is the only medicine that works. It put me to sleep and helps to greatly lessen the nausea. This medication works! Getting a physician to understand the diagnosis is not always easy."

For Urticaria "Chronic hives - 25 mg works well after desloratadine ceased working for me. Side effects of sedation, lethargy, falling asleep very quickly (sometimes inappropriately), dry eyes and mouth. (If I was working and not retired, the side effects may not have been manageable)"

For Sedation "Take 50 mg at night to help me sleep, as it takes away the anxiety. It works a treat. I'm very sedated and calm after 1 hour and can sleep 8 hours. Only downside, I seem to crave sugary foods like chocolate, so I tend to binge (can eat a whole entire packet of biscuits in 10 mins)."

For Allergic Reactions "Phenergan (promethazine) is very effective for nausea and vomiting. It is generally not used for urticaria or respiratory allergies. It is very strong and will make you drowsy. I recommend taking it when you are going to lay low for a while. We don't give it IV anymore because we had some serious tissue damage reported when it infiltrated under the skin. I am not sure that we still give it IV. Lately, it is either given as a suppository or as a pill."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I suffered from Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome; similar to an abdominal migraine. The gastroenterologist prescribed Phenergan suppositories as a prophylaxis. It prevented the onset of the nausea and vomiting. Just knowing it is in my refrigerator should I need it has stopped the cycle."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I had a very serious vomiting problem with my first pregnancy. I had to be hospitalized and then put on an IV at home for fluids. When I was about two months pregnant with my second child, I was given promethazine, and it was the only thing that kept me from the same issues as the first pregnancy. I was still sick every day, and I was still vomiting sporadically. However, I was able to actually eat and drink and gain weight. My son was born fine. Now I am pregnant with my third and have started on it earlier than the second pregnancy. I was not aware that the effects of the drug on unborn children are unknown. My doctor had told me it was safe. Hopefully, this next baby will be fine as well."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Phenergan has been a lifesaver. I am a little over 5 months pregnant and have not been able to enjoy a meal for at least the last 3-4 months. I went to the doctor, and she tried me on Phenergan, and it has truly been a blessing. I can eat and not be scared that I'll vomit. It does make me a little sleepy if I take the entire pill, but if I just take half, I can eat at work during the day. At home, I take the whole thing and sleep like a baby. My only negative is there is really no information about how it affects an unborn child. A couple of my friends have taken it, and they have healthy, happy kids. I'll be praying for the same result."

For Allergic Reactions "My son was given a one-time dose of 25 mg of this drug intravenously for nausea in the hospital, while on IV drips which included nitroglycerin, blood pressure medications, and pain opiates. He had a *severe* reaction, which included extremely high BP spikes (over 200 systolic), seizures, disorientation, and hallucinations. The blood pressure spikes and seizures were extremely dangerous, as he had just suffered aortic dissection. It was fortunate that this drug reaction was not fatal. This drug should have a huge warning against usage with blood pressure meds, as that is a potentially fatal combination. The pharmacy should reject any request to use this drug in such a combination."

For Opiate Adjunct "I am approximately 65 years old. Post-surgery, I was prescribed Oxycodone and Phenergan, and after 18 hours, speech became slurred, unable to form words or express myself accurately. Turns out my youngest daughter had a similar reaction to the same drug during an appendicitis crisis."

For Light Sedation "I had taken 25 mg at 10:00 pm to help me sleep. At 2 am, I took another because I was still awake! Now, at 3:30 am, I am still awake. I am drowsy, but my whole body feels weird, kind of an irritating sensation, it's awful. I am going to have a cup of tea (caffeine) to see if it will counteract this horrible weird sensation. No more Phenergan for me, that's for sure. I feel I have to move around all the time."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I've had this prescribed for surgical procedures, with migraine medications, and when I take opioids because they cause swelling and intense itching. This is great. It ends vomiting, suppresses nausea, eliminates swelling and itching. The generic is very inexpensive and works quickly. The drowsiness side effect is unlike most drugs with this caution; I can wake quickly and think clearly, no 'drugged' or heavy, fogged thinking."

For Allergic Reactions "Was prescribed promethazine (Phenergan) 25 mg after a procedure and had a severe allergic reaction to the medication. My face broke out in red, itchy hives, which spread down my neck and soon covered my entire body, head to toe. My throat began to swell up, and my heart rate spiked. Be careful with this medication if you've never taken it before."

For Nausea/Vomiting "My wife has taken this medicine in pill form to combat nausea due to chemo, with no adverse side effects. Last week, she was given a dose via her central line. She became psychotic and combative. Phenergan via IV was not good for her. Zofran is an excellent alternative."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I absolutely love this medication. I was sick often from chemo, and this helped miracles. I also was having it for sleeping, and when I took this, I would fall asleep, and with cancer, you often just want to sleep and not be sick. This was great. I also had lots of morphine but decided I wanted this more than the morphine. So, to me, this was the better choice, and I was in la-la land, but it was my preferred drug, and to this day I still ask for Phenergan."

For Nausea/Vomiting "This drug is wonderful for stomach viruses, motion sickness, anything involving stomach nausea. The only side effect I have felt is the sedative effect. If you are a nervous flyer, I would recommend 12.5 mg 30 minutes before takeoff."

For Motion Sickness "Phenergan seems to prevent some motion sickness with fewer side effects (but slightly less effectiveness) than Transderm-Scop. The primary side effect of Phenergan is some drowsiness, which is dose-related."

For Nausea/Vomiting "In preparation for a colonoscopy, I was given this medicine in case I became nauseated. I took 1 tablet as I was feeling a bit nauseous after taking the 'cleansing' drug prescribed by my doctor, and within 15 minutes, the nausea subsided. Then I fell asleep for several hours. Does what it is supposed to."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I just had a bilateral mastectomy due to breast cancer a month ago and will never forget the huge injection of Phenergan the nurse plunged into my I.V. when I came out of the anesthesia and said, 'I'm going to throw up!' It halted my nausea IMMEDIATELY - wish I'd known about this stuff years ago! It would have saved me after a few of my surgeries. Now, they've put me on Tamoxifen, which is making me incredibly nauseated. When my doctor's office called me the other day to let me know they had called in an anti-nausea medicine for me at the pharmacy, I was overjoyed to find out it was Phenergan. Sure enough, it's working great. Last night I had my first enjoyable evening without nausea since starting the Tamoxifen."

For Opiate Adjunct "Been taking promethazine 10 mg for years now to get rid of motion sickness. I can’t travel on public transport. But then I noticed after running out of my prescription that there was 25 mg Phenergan you could buy at the chemist with 56 tablets. So I saw you could take them to help you sleep, so I started taking them with my zopiclone sleeping tablets, which didn’t really work (shouldn't be taken together). The usual dose for sleeping is 25 mg to 50 mg at night, but I have been taking more than that (which is dangerous). Some advice would be very much appreciated."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I use Phenergan for nausea. I take 25 mg to 50 mg. More effective than Zofran, which doesn’t work on me. It causes a bit of tiredness, but not the putting me to sleep type—just relaxes me, which is appreciated when I have nausea."

For Sedation "I have recently started taking Phenergan, I take two 50 mg tablets about 20 minutes before sleep. 9 times out of 10, I'm having the most intense nightmares! I've literally just woken up from another. These tablets do work, however, you need to be mindful that nightmares can occur."

For Nausea/Vomiting "In 2015, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and had emergency surgery to save my life. Seven years later, I have ups and downs with flares and how it makes me feel. Mainly, it’s nausea. So, my doc prescribed promethazine (Phenergan) to help, and boy, does it. I can be sick and not want to eat to keep weight on. But after one or two, I can eat anything."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I suffer from migraines and frequently have extreme nausea and vomiting. Since I can't keep my migraine medicine down (Zomig) at times like these, I have to be taken to the emergency room for shots for pain and nausea. The last time I went, they gave me a prescription for Phenergan. I didn't know how I would manage to keep it down if I did need it. I thought that was odd, but since the bad migraines usually come in threes, I had a chance to try it the next day. It was great! I could keep the Zomig down. I got a little rest too."
