Verzenio is used to treat certain HR-positive and HER2-negative breast cancers in adults. It may be used alone, or in combination with other medicines. Verzenio was first FDA approved in 2017.
This medication is not chemotherapy, but it is used to treat cancer. Instead, Verzenio is referred to as a targeted treatment because it works by blocking specific proteins called cyclin-dependent kinases that cancer cells rely heavily on for growth.
Verzenio tablets are taken by mouth twice a day. They should be swallowed whole, and should not be crushed or split apart.
Common Verzenio side effects include nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, infections, low blood cell counts, decreased appetite, headache, hair loss, stomach pain, and tiredness. It may also raise your risk for infections, lung problems, liver problems, and blood clots.
