Interactions between your drugs
DOXOrubicin mercaptopurine
Applies to: Adriamycin RDF (doxorubicin), mercaptopurine
Mercaptopurine given intravenously in combination with mercaptopurine has been reported to cause liver damage in rare cases. It is not known whether mercaptopurine given orally has the same effect. Call your doctor immediately if you have fever, chills, joint pain or swelling, unusual bleeding or bruising, skin rash, itching, loss of appetite, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, dark colored urine, light colored stools, and/or yellowing of the skin or eyes, as these may be signs and symptoms of liver damage. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
mercaptopurine food
Applies to: mercaptopurine
You may experience reduced absorption of mercaptopurine in the presence of food. Take mercaptopurine on an empty stomach 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. This will make it easier for your body to absorb the medication.
