Drug Interaction Report
7 potential interactions and/or warnings found for the following 2 drugs:
- pexidartinib
- Scot-Tussin Original (old formulation) (caffeine / pheniramine / phenylephrine / sodium citrate / sodium salicylate)
Interactions between your drugs
phenylephrine caffeine
Applies to: Scot-Tussin Original (old formulation) (caffeine / pheniramine / phenylephrine / sodium citrate / sodium salicylate), Scot-Tussin Original (old formulation) (caffeine / pheniramine / phenylephrine / sodium citrate / sodium salicylate)
Both phenylephrine and caffeine can increase blood pressure and heart rate, and combining them may enhance these effects. Talk to your doctor before using these medications, especially if you have a history of high blood pressure or heart disease. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. Contact your doctor if your condition changes or you experience increased side effects. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
sodium salicylate sodium citrate
Applies to: Scot-Tussin Original (old formulation) (caffeine / pheniramine / phenylephrine / sodium citrate / sodium salicylate), Scot-Tussin Original (old formulation) (caffeine / pheniramine / phenylephrine / sodium citrate / sodium salicylate)
Using sodium citrate together with sodium salicylate may decrease the effects of sodium salicylate. Contact your doctor if your condition changes. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
sodium citrate pexidartinib
Applies to: Scot-Tussin Original (old formulation) (caffeine / pheniramine / phenylephrine / sodium citrate / sodium salicylate), pexidartinib
Talk to your doctor before using pexidartinib together with sodium citrate. Sodium citrate can interfere with the absorption of pexidartinib and reduce its effectiveness if they are taken too close together. In some cases, your doctor may want to prescribe alternatives that do not interact. Otherwise, you may be able to minimize the interaction by taking pexidartinib at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after sodium citrate. Contact your doctor if your condition worsens during treatment with these medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food/lifestyle interactions
pexidartinib food/lifestyle
Applies to: pexidartinib
You may experience reduced absorption of pexidartinib in the presence of food. Pexidartinib should be taken on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after food. This will make it easier for your body to absorb the medication. Also, while taking pexidartinib, you should avoid grapefruits and grapefruit juice. Grapefruit and grapefruit juice can raise the levels of pexidartinib in your body and lead to potentially dangerous adverse effects. Do not increase or decrease the amount of grapefruit products in your diet without first talking to your doctor. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
pheniramine food/lifestyle
Applies to: Scot-Tussin Original (old formulation) (caffeine / pheniramine / phenylephrine / sodium citrate / sodium salicylate)
Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of pheniramine such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with pheniramine. Do not use more than the recommended dose of pheniramine, and avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medication affects you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns.
phenylephrine food/lifestyle
Applies to: Scot-Tussin Original (old formulation) (caffeine / pheniramine / phenylephrine / sodium citrate / sodium salicylate)
