Drug Interaction Report
3 potential interactions and/or warnings found for the following 2 drugs:
- pexidartinib
- Relyvrio (sodium phenylbutyrate / taurursodiol)
Interactions between your drugs
pexidartinib taurursodiol
Applies to: pexidartinib, Relyvrio (sodium phenylbutyrate / taurursodiol)
Pexidartinib may increase the blood levels of taurursodiol. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
pexidartinib food
Applies to: pexidartinib
You may experience reduced absorption of pexidartinib in the presence of food. Pexidartinib should be taken on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after food. This will make it easier for your body to absorb the medication. Also, while taking pexidartinib, you should avoid grapefruits and grapefruit juice. Grapefruit and grapefruit juice can raise the levels of pexidartinib in your body and lead to potentially dangerous adverse effects. Do not increase or decrease the amount of grapefruit products in your diet without first talking to your doctor. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
sodium phenylbutyrate food
Applies to: Relyvrio (sodium phenylbutyrate / taurursodiol)
Food may affect the absorption of sodium phenylbutyrate. A high-fat, high-calorie meal (approximately 800 to 1000 calories; 500 to 600 calories from fat, 250 calories from carbohydrate, 150 calories from protein) has been shown to reduce the absorption of sodium phenylbutyrate, although it is unknown what impact this may have on the overall effectiveness of the medication. The manufacturer recommends taking sodium phenylbutyrate before a meal or snack. This is especially important if you weigh less than 70 kg (approximately 154 pounds). Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions on how to take this or other medications you are prescribed. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medication without first talking to your doctor.
