Applies to the following strengths: 3000 units-40.5 mg/3 mL
Usual Adult Dose for:
Additional dosage information:
Usual Adult Dose for Chronic Central Venous Catheterization
Instill a sufficient amount of catheter lock solution (heparin 1000 units/mL-taurolidine 13.5 mg/mL) into each catheter lumen at the conclusion of every hemodialysis session.
Comments:
- Use a 3 mL or 5 mL vial of lock solution depending on volume of the catheter lumens.
- This drug is intended only for instillation into a central venous catheter (CVC); do NOT administer systemically or as catheter lock flush product.
- Aspirate and discard this solution from the catheter before the next hemodialysis (HD) session.
- Limitations of use: Safety and efficacy have not been established in populations other than adult patients with kidney failure receiving chronic HD through a CVC.
Use: To reduce the incidence of catheter-related bloodstream infections in patients with kidney failure receiving chronic HD through a central venous catheter CVC
Usual Adult Dose for Hemodialysis Anticoagulation
Instill a sufficient amount of catheter lock solution (heparin 1000 units/mL-taurolidine 13.5 mg/mL) into each catheter lumen at the conclusion of every hemodialysis session.

Administration advice:
- For instillation into CVCs only (not for systemic use)
- To administer, withdraw a sufficient volume from the vial using a sterile needle and syringe to fill the catheter lumens.
- Prior to initiation of the next HD session, this solution should be aspirated from the catheter and discarded.
- If solution cannot be aspirated, continue with standard of care CVC preparation and flush with normal saline. If a catheter malfunction is suspected, appropriate standard of care measures should be instituted.
- Each single-dose vial is designed for single-patient use with a single instillation in the CVC; discard any unused product.
- This drug should not be used as a catheter lock flush.
Storage requirements:
- Store at a controlled room temperature of 20C to 25C (68F to 77F); excursions are permitted from 15C to 30C (59F to 86F).
- Vials must be stored in the manufacturer carton prior to use.
- Do not freeze.
General:
- Vials of this product are available as 3 mL (heparin 3000 USP units-taurolidine 40.5 mg) or 5 mL (heparin 5000 USP units-taurolidine 67.5 mg).
