"This medication is super for knocking out the HHV6 virus. Beyond some brief sleepiness for the first week, I had no side effects. My white count dropped for about a week and then rebounded into the normal range. It took two weeks to put the virus in remission, but I stayed on it longer just to be sure it wouldn’t return. That was decades ago. It has never returned. Recommend highly."

Valganciclovir for CMV Retinitis "I was diagnosed in 2018 with CMV anterior uveitis. I started Valcyte 900 mg twice daily for 2 weeks, then was tapered to 450 mg twice daily for 2 months, then 450 mg once daily for 6 months. But once I stopped the medication, the symptoms flared again (blurred vision and severe headache with high ocular pressure, almost 50 mmHg). The worst thing about this medication is its side effects; for example, it lowers the WBC, causes infertility, and I was getting sick easily; mood changes, and the last thing is sometimes this medication may cause stomachache."

Valganciclovir for CMV Prophylaxis "Valcyte takes care of CMV well. I had a SPK transplant that had CMV. I did not have. My dose was 2 tabs 2x for 21 days, then 1 2x for 14 days, then went off. Only drug that treats CMV good. I would not take long term because of stomach pain and resistance to the drug. If future CMV infections should occur, it becomes less effective like any other drug, and the consequences can be dire for us with transplants. Good experience with the drug, though pretty pricey. But life is priceless. Good luck."
