CMV (cytomegalovirus) retinitis is inflammation of the retina of the eye due to reactivation of CMV infection which can occur in people who have a suppressed immune system. After having an infection with CMV the virus remains dormant or inactive and usually only becomes reactivated if the immune system is weakened is some way, for example, if there is an immune disorder or in patients who take medicines that are immunosuppressive.
