Carafate (sucralfate) for Stomach Ulcer "Carafate Suspension was prescribed by my doctor because of stomach problems caused by taking pain killers and anti-inflamatory drugs for knee injury. Already taking Omeprozole but it was not doing the trick. The carafate worked great. Realy calmed down the acid reflux."

Carafate (sucralfate) for Stress Ulcer Prophylaxis "I was in much discomfort; pain, burning. Felt like I had something caught in my throat. These symptoms all came back just after an Endoscope. We called the Doctor and he prescribed Carafate Suspension. The "fire" was put out immediately. It was so good to feel "NORMAL" again."

Carafate (sucralfate) for GERD "I take the liquid form of this medicine 10 mL 4 times a day. It helps with GERD and gastroparesis. I started out with the pill version, but I kept having trouble swallowing them and they got stuck in my throat so my doctor was able to get a pre-approval for the liquid Carafate. It works really well and I like that it coats my stomach with all the digestive problems I have. I haven't had any side effects from it, which I am relieved about."

For Stomach Ulcer "Works. Dissolve it in about 4oz of water, don't try to swallow it whole if you can't swallow fast because it starts to fall apart very, very quickly. Think of it like an Alka-Seltzer tablet or other similar dissolving-type medicines. I take mine with these little mini-bottled waters. Just plop my doses in, swish the bottles, and chug it. Give that a try if you struggle with swallowing the tablets in time."

Carafate (sucralfate) for Duodenal Ulcer "I had several ulcers the pain was tremendous. After a week in the hospital I was given this medication and others. This medication worked miracles. I wasn't told that if I stopped taking it my ulcer would come back (my ulcers are not from bacteria). They came back and I began the medication again and I am fine now. You must take the medication all the time."

Carafate (sucralfate) for GERD "I have GERD and have been prescribed Carafate several times. First time was the liquid and it seemed to work best. Now I’m on 4 tablets/day and 2 Prilosec. It’s just not working this time. Actually my stomach hurts worse when I take it. The insomnia is awful. It’s very hard to time my meals and other medicines while taking this too. Almost impossible! Looks like endoscopy is my next step."

Carafate (sucralfate) for Stomach Ulcer "Found out I have a stomach ulcer and hiatal hernia. Doctor prescribed me carafate and it’s day two and I feel like I am feeling worse. My head is pounding it hurts so bad my throat feels dry and slightly swollen and I feel extremely dizzy and weak.. I’m hoping this will wear off and when I get my swallow test done it will help reduce my anxiety. I just need to feel better I am scared to go back to work feeling like this."

For Duodenal Ulcer "Immediate relief! I was diagnosed with a duodenal ulcer 14 months ago. A few months of antacids and it healed, but all of my symptoms recurred 4 months ago. My gastro said I had gastritis and gave me antacids again but they didn't do much at all: still burping all the time (waking 3-4 times/night to burp myself like a baby), stomach tenderness from swelling, faux hunger pangs, nausea. The very first sucralfate pill stopped all of that. I take it 3x/day an hour before meals, which is my prescription for the next 3 months. Also: I have an eating disorder that was constantly triggered by the fake feeling of hunger from my sore stomach. Since starting on this medication, my disorder is easier to manage."

Carafate (sucralfate) for Stomach Ulcer "Carafate worked miracles. I wasnt able to eat much while on it but it did stop the pain from my Ulcer. I didn't realize it but it did make me constipated and I was really gassy which in turn caused pain but I would rather have gassy pain then the pain from the ulcer."

Carafate (sucralfate) for Stomach Ulcer "Carafate worked really well in calming the pain. I didn't have a problem with constipation as I was unable to eat solid food at that point but after a couple of days of using it I was actually able to eat for the first time in weeks."

Carafate (sucralfate) for Duodenal Ulcer "First I must say I started feeling better pretty much right away on this med, and then I almost choked to death! I cut the pull in half, took half and it was stuck and I panicked! I ended up getting it down( because I tried to get it back up but didn’t work) but I am still left with a horrible taste in my throat 5 hours later. I did call pharmacy and they said to dissolve in a small med cup of water and drink it, thank god because I don’t want to be that scared again!"

Carafate (sucralfate) for GERD "Carafate side effects are constipation, best thing to do is take a stool softener before the last dose of carafate in the evening. It works great. I did not read the side effects until next day and had severe constipation in the morning. I am not a person that gets constipation, but this medication will do it very fast!"

Carafate (sucralfate) for Duodenal Ulcer "It takes a long time to be effective. Don't be surprised that it may take 2 bottles (at 30day supply/ bottle) to get results. Condition will slowly improve. It usually is taken 4 times daily. Easier to do 1 hour before meals than 3 hours after. My schedule 6:30 am, 11 am, 4 pm and then before bed. Be sure to have FULL (8 - 10oz.) glass of water. Otherwise blue pill will cause stool to be DARK GREEN."

For Stomach Ulcer "Like another reviewer, this was given to me as a "Band-aid" to postpone a badly needed endoscopy, which was cancelled due to the Covid19 crisis. First, this stuff is a MAJOR CHOKING HAZARD, even if pills are split. The instant they hit moist throat tissue they stick like glue. It is recommended that the tablets be crushed and mixed with water if you have this problem. Second, it must be taken on an empty stomach - no food for at least an hour before and an hour after. The problem with this is my stomach hurts the MOST when it is empty, and adding Sucralfate makes it burn even more. If I need a lot of water to get the sticky thing down, I might belch and then my entire esophagus burns. I count the minutes until the hour is up so I can have a glass of milk, which makes me feel better...for about 30minutes. :("

Carafate (sucralfate) for GERD "After 2 esophagus surgeries using the Nissan method I am much better. Stress was and is my main problem. Then comes not being able eat hardly anything. I take prescription prilosec twice a day watch my diet...very hard and exercise stretch walk. I was in ER last night and sent home with Carafate. If anyone has taken potassium pills they suck big time. I was told to make slurry. Add it to a small amount of water and take in one swallow. Works like a charm!"

Carafate (sucralfate) for Stomach Ulcer "I suffer from anxiety, and have been having stomach issues for like 8 months. Went to the GI they wanted to perform an endoscopy but I'm 9 weeks pregnant which make things even worst. I have bad upper stomach pain, really bad burning on stomach and chest. I had to come off my antacid because I'm doing a breath test to test for h pylori. So my GI prescribed carafate 1mg. 4x a day, took my first dose at 11pm, fell asleep like around 12:30am. Woke up at 2am feeling really nauseas, back pain, really bad tummy ache, headache, and this went on for like 4 more hours, and to make things worst it got me anxious.. calling my doctor today, not happy with the side effects plus I'm feeling really weak. Don't know if I should keep taking it."

For GERD "I just started Sucralfate recently. I take it one hour before dinner and before bed. I tried many other prescription meds for GERD and none of them really worked very well. I like the way I can sleep at night and I don't have any reflux when I lay down. The only side effect I have noticed is a sore throat soon after I take the medication."

For Stomach Ulcer "I was diagnosed with an ulcer. My pain was so bad I literally could not sleep or eat. 8 trips to the ER and finally this great doctor prescribed Carafate. I take the pills. The size and quick dissolve do make it intimidating to take and the four a day is hard to manage sometimes, however, it stopped my pain. I hope to get off it after my ulcer heals. So, I’m changing up my food and eating smaller meals. I also walk three miles a day and it also helps manage my reflux and anxiety. I feel it’s a great medicine. The first time I was on it I got off in a month. My pain returned, but I was also eating bad food. So with dietary changes I feel this will facilitate permanent healing. I have no side -effects."

For GERD "This pill can be very dangerous. I saw the reviews before I took it & I took it for 6 days. Last night when I went to take it & I always cut the pill in half because the pharmacy said you can. The pill did not dissolve & it got stuck in my throat & I could not get air or water in to get it down. Lucky my husband was home & gave me the Heimlich maneuver. He had a hard time with me. I almost died & if he wasn't there I would have. I will not be taking this pill anymore."

For Stomach Ulcer "I am a week in to Sucralfate, not sure if I feel differently in a good way. I’m still getting bad pains and painful bloating to the point where I feel my stomach is going to burst. Not to mention it’s a huge inconvenience to take 3x a day, 1 hour before eating, I have 3 other meds that I have to take at all different times because of Sucralfate which is super hard because I am not an early bird whatsoever. Every time I take the pill I immediately feel sick to my stomach and it makes me not want to eat, 8/10 times I can’t eat after my first dose. I always feel really awful until over an hour later my body feels fine, yet I don’t see the pill improving my ulcer complications."

Carafate (sucralfate) for Duodenal Ulcer "I have been on Carafate for almost 6 weeks for an ulcer. It has not helped me at all. I still have the extreme abdominal pain all night long. I was check for H pylori and it was negative. I had all kinds of ultrasounds done and they all came back fine. I was also given Dexilant to take. I take the Carafate 4 times a day and no luck for me. I am seeing another doctor today. It just is not working for me. And as others said, it does make you consipated for sure. I wish it worked for me like some of the others, but it is not."

For Stomach Ulcer "Dr prescribed Sucralfate for my chronic indigestion, stomach pain, ulcer and constant bloating. Yes it a task to manage taking this RX and scheduling intake of your meds but I take my medication either at night or after I wake up. Then wait the hour. Yes the pill is large but it dissolve in water. I'm surprised that no instruction on how to take was given by the pharmacy for some of the people prescribe this med. Yes. Some people may not be able to take this medication but for the most part a larger percent of people can. I feel 100% better taking this med."

Carafate (sucralfate) for Duodenal Ulcer "I have both an ulcer in my stomach as well as duodenitis (two ulcers in the upper part of my small intestine)--this was all discovered during my endoscopy. I was given this medication and am still on it...immediately I had dry mouth, mild headaches and that dizzy/vertigo feeling which I just thought were my sinuses acting up until I looked up the side effects. It's changed my bowel motions for sure, more towards constipation which then causes an upset stomach for me, mainly in the morning."

For Stress Ulcer Prophylaxis "Life saver! I'm a nurse and we do dissolve carafate into either a slurry or melt it in a little water and put it in some type of apple sauce or pudding. This is for those who have difficulty swallowing the pill form. Carafate also comes in liquid form, so you may inquire about possibly changing it to that on your next doctor visit. Carafate helps helps heal ulcers. Doesn't necessarily prevent them. If you have severe gastrointestinal issues, you may be prescribed another type of antacid or PPI to help along with carafate. As always, you have to take Carafate as prescribed. The times of administration are important. Especially if taking other medications and for it to work before disgestion of food. If you are still having severe gastrointestinal issues, you may have another serious issue and need to have a more invasive test from your PCP to rule out what is going on."

For GERD "Sucralfate, DO NOT swallow because it coats your throat as well. When I was taking it I was having dry mouth, dry throat, trouble to swallow anything, dry cough, trouble to chew any solid food, and unable to talk and was so weak. Since I dissolve the medicine in water and is helping much better. It is not easy to be taking this an hour before meal 4 times a day, besides Omeprazole. However, the medicine seems working for stomach. Still having trouble to swallow medicine with capsules. It sticks in my throat, the Gastritis probably constricted my throat. I agree the instruction should written as dissolve the medicine in water. I was cutting into half and swallowed in the beginning ( didn’t know anything), and it was not working still. In my logic, if this medicine coats the stomach, when swallow it, it also coats the throat. Good Luck everyone!"
