Saliva substitutes topical "This did absolutely nothing for me. I am a mouth-breather at night. I've tried humidifiers too. Nothing seems to prevent me from getting dry mouth during the night. Dry mouth can lead to cavities or gum disease, so when I wake up in the middle of the night (hey, I'm 66 -- it comes with the territory), I am now just using regular mouthwash to kill any bacteria that are multiplying in the absence of saliva. There were no side effects of Biotene."

Also, some back teeth have started to hurt. I discontinued usage for now. Used Biotene last night instead. I did a nice job."
