Saliva substitutes topical "I had a very bad experience after taking XyliMelts. At first, I did not know what was causing me to feel so unwell. My tongue was extra swollen and felt hot. I had tingling in my mouth and tongue. My voice was very hoarse and a tightness in my chest. I started to shake slightly throughout my arms, legs, and body. I did not know what was causing it, and I rang a health line. I wondered if I had COVID, though I rarely go out. As there was no warning on the box of medication, I did not connect to start with. Then, as I had not taken anything else, I decided to Google to see if that showed any side effects. It certainly did. I went to my doctor's, and I was given another medication, which did help. However, it was a holiday, so the night it happened, I had nowhere to call apart from going to the emergency department. I am telling you this because I think you should state all the possible side effects on your medication on the enclosed leaflet or box. That way, an earlier diagnosis can be made."

Saliva substitutes topical "I have dry mouth due to Sicca syndrome, and at first, I thought it was wonderful in relieving dry mouth at night. Gradually over several months, I had gastric issues and sensitive teeth. I also had to have 2 root canals in previously good teeth (related?). When it got really uncomfortable, I visited my doctor due to black, gassy stools several times a day, terrible gas, pressure, and rumbling in the stomach. Then reflux started. Stool test and blood test were normal, so Dr. made an appointment with a gastroenterologist (not seen yet). I found a reference to gastric side effects from Xylitol. I stopped using the XyliMelts, and symptoms went away."

Saliva substitutes topical "I started using XyliGel (my dentist gave me a sample), it works wonderfully. After using it for 4 days, my gums and teeth hurt. Last night, I had to get up and brush my teeth and use mouthwash because my gums hurt so much, I was getting scared. If I bite down on anything, my teeth hurt. I am so disappointed that I can't use XyliGel anymore, it worked so well for me. Something is very wrong. I've been reading reviews on this product, and a great many people are experiencing the same thing."

Saliva substitutes topical "After being put on a CPAP machine, I purchased XyliMelts Dry Mouth Stick on Melts. The night I used them, I did experience significant relief from dry mouth. However, I ended up with two severe sores on each side of my mouth in the area where I used the product. It has been a week since I used them, and the sores are still painful and present. I have not used XyliMelts since then. What I find concerning is that although other people have reported this side effect, I cannot find any information from the manufacturer stating that it can cause mouth ulcers or sores as a side effect. The only mention I found was that a small number of people can be allergic to the adhesive and should buy the product with a different form of adhesive."

Saliva substitutes topical "I take Vesicare for an overactive bladder. It helps a lot, but the side effect is extreme dry mouth!! I tried Bioteen and didn't like the taste. I then tried TheraBreath lozenges which seemed to help, but I didn't like waking up in the night and needing to suck on a strong mint-flavored lozenge. When I tried Mouth Kote spray, I had instant relief, and it left no real bad taste in my mouth. The bottle is next to me at night, so when I wake up with a Sahara desert in my mouth, I simply spray a couple of times into my mouth, swish it around for 10 seconds, and fall right back to sleep."

Saliva substitutes topical "I’ve been using XyliMelts for several months, and they were great at first. It seems I have developed an allergy to them. My mouth became so irritated that it was hard to eat anything. The corners of my mouth were a mess too. I didn’t realize that it was the XyliMelts that was causing it until I stopped using them to experiment and see. Sure enough, the irritation stopped slowly. I won’t use them again. I’m so sad because they let me get a little sleep at night."

Saliva substitutes topical "I have a dry and painful mouth of unknown cause. I have tried Biotene mouthwash, the rubbery lozenges, and several other treatments, but finally found Mouth Kote. Clearly, it is the best for me. It has a lime (but not sweet) taste. It causes you to make saliva when spraying it in. I seem to be able to use it as often as I like. It really helps."

Saliva substitutes topical "I have Sjögren's and loved XyliMelts as it meant I could sleep several hours without a drink. But had a side effect of diarrhea and didn't associate it with XyliMelts for 4 months even after other med changes and gastro tests. Eliminated them 3 weeks ago and no diarrhea, so xylitol was the culprit. Now thinking of trying Mouth Kote."

Saliva substitutes topical "XyliMelts was recommended by my dentist’s office for dry mouth caused by meds that I am on. Used nightly as instructed for 1 year. Decayed front tooth in my bridge & 3 teeth in my lower jaw. Having to get dental implants & already got 3 crowns in lower jaw. Cost approximately $7K. Wish I never heard of XyliMelts."

Saliva substitutes topical "I have diabetes and started using these for dry mouth. My blood sugar hasn't been over 180 for a year. Within a few days of using these, my blood sugar was reading in the 250’s and higher, with no other changes in my life except for the xylitol. It doesn't make sense because there is no sugar in the product, and xylitol is not supposed to raise blood sugar, but there it is!"

Saliva substitutes topical "Have used XyliMelts for years for dry mouth at night. Definitely helps with sleep. Sometimes the area of the gum where I put the XyliMelts is a little sensitive, but worth it for the sleep. Have tried other products, but these are the best. I am 80 and developed this dry mouth at night about five years ago. No real cause determined. Discovered this product by trial and error. Dentists need to be informed. I told my dentist, and she now recommends this product."

Saliva substitutes topical "Been taking XyliMelts at night (1) for dry mouth due to breathing through my mouth while sleeping. I'm 66, and I have OSA. During dry winter months while sleeping, I would wake up with a terribly parched mouth several times a night. This really helps! Side effect - seems to act like a mild laxative."

Saliva substitutes topical "I thought they were great at first, but my tongue would be extra sensitive after using them. I stopped after a week or so, but my dry mouth kept me up all night recently, so last night I used another one. Today my tongue has little sores all over it, and it hurts to eat. I won't be using these again."

Saliva substitutes topical "This caused major irritation on my tongue and in my mouth, similar to burnt tongue syndrome (yes, this is a real condition). I discontinued the product and found my tongue and mouth improved immediately, with the condition going away completely in a few days. I will never take this again. Other products work without terrible side effects."

Saliva substitutes topical "I've been using XyliMelts tablets for about one month since I started using the CPAP for sleep apnea to help dry mouth caused by the CPAP. So far, I have had only positive results. I wake up in the AM after a night's rest, and the tablet has dissolved. I may have to move my tongue around to completely spread the tablet, but the overall effect is positive."

Saliva substitutes topical "I've had dry mouth due to a couple of meds I take. I was using a Biotene oral mouth rinse, which was somewhat helpful, and I could sleep through the night without having to get up for water about half the nights. After starting chemo, the nighttime dry mouth was even worse, and my dentist recommended XyliMelts. They are exactly what I needed, and I take them when I am exercising, giving a presentation, and at night. I use perhaps 3-4 within a 24-hour period. I also drink a lot of liquids and use a sugar-free throat lozenge as needed during the day. I haven't had any problems with them except a slight irritation where I was adhering the nighttime tablet, so I began to switch sides, which solved the problem. Now that I'm reading the reviews, it makes me a bit tentative. I have recommended them to others, but I'll be more wary about potential side effects, to be sure."

Saliva substitutes topical "I actually liked this product when I was using it, but hated the inconvenience of having to mix the powder. It was hard to use away from home. My doctor gave me a lot of samples, but now he said it isn't available? Not sure why. I like a new product he gave me a sample of called Lubricity (it's an oral spray), and I love the convenience of it. It also seems to last considerably longer than NeutraSal and most of the other products I've tried. Unfortunately, it's not in any stores by me yet."

Saliva substitutes topical "I have Sjögren's, so I have a dry mouth. From the first time I tried it, I was impressed with no dryness from alcohol in my mouth, no burning. This mouthwash has kept my breath and mouth slightly moist for a while after use too. I highly recommend this for dry mouth, from medications or medical conditions."

Saliva substitutes topical "Husband has been using Biotene spray for years due to the medicines that give him dry mouth. A few nights ago, he sprayed some in his mouth, and within a few minutes, his throat constricted, he kept coughing and choking, and I almost had to take him to the hospital. He drank some water and then took 2 antihistamines, which seemed to help. He complained of a cough and soreness in his throat for a couple of days after. He is better now."

Saliva substitutes topical "My dentist recommended these to me, and I tried it last night. I have trouble with not being able to swallow my saliva at night. I went to bed fine, but an hour later, my throat started to close. My throat tightened like sandpaper, I have bumps in my mouth, my whole neck and face hurt. It took away my good saliva and gave me this thick foam saliva that was hard to swallow. I took a Claritin to at least help, but I feel like I have a bad cold now."

"I recently came across a new product that's on the market called Lubricity, and I LOVE IT. It's an oral spray and so far seems to last MUCH longer than any other dry mouth spray I have ever used. I suffer from dry mouth and have for about 5 years. I ordered this product online since it's not sold in any stores near me. I came across it when doing some research online. They did offer a coupon code on the website when I bought it, seems like they have a different % off discount now but always seem to offer something. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS!"

Saliva substitutes topical "I got a CPAP machine, and my mouth has been cotton dry at night. Miserable. After around 6 months, I got the first cavity I’ve had since I was 12 years old (I’m over 50). Since dry mouth causes cavities, I decided to try XyliMelts, and WOW! I figured they would probably help some, hoping at least to make my mouth more comfortable at night, but I didn’t realize they could stimulate such saliva flow. I even drooled on my pillow. All I need is one a night. It sticks just right and is gone when I wake up. This is a fantastic product."

Saliva substitutes topical "I’ve been using it for about three years for a dry mouth at night, ever since getting a CPAP machine. Usually use one a night, and I put the tablet in a different location of my mouth each night. Have had great success with them and no side effects. I’d recommend that people try them to see if it works as well for them."
