Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) for Migraine Prevention "Have had migraines with aura for 20 years, about 4-5/month. For the last 5 years, I have been taking topiramate daily to prevent the pain, but I still get the auras. My doctor added Nurtec last month, and it has been amazing for me. I take it every other day, preventively. Since I started taking it a month ago, ZERO auras for the first time in 20 years."

Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) for Migraine Prevention "Within a few doses (was taking it every other day) caused brain fog, dizziness, nausea and felt a tightness in my head. While it did stop a migraine with about 1 1/2 hours, I only started it on 7/20/2022. At doctors suggestion I tried again and on Monday 8/01/2022 had worse of the same symptoms. Have not and will not take another dose but it is now Wednesday 8/03/2022 and I still feel not just the brain fog but the tightness in my head and feel like I'm on sleeping pills. Left another message for doctor. I WILL NOT take this medication again. Causing more health issues than just having migraines."

Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) for Migraine "I just took it yesterday for the first time which the dissolvable tablet was disgusting. It's been 27 hours since I took it and I keep getting severe waves of nausea. It feels just like motion sickness and I'd be fine if it just gave me diarrhea but it's vomiting this nausea gives me. I will get a hot flash and get dizzy when looking at screens, smoke a cigarette, or even go in warm weather. The nausea is a 8/10 and is similar to when my ear was filled with fluid and I was dizzy. Wondering how much longer this nausea will last just from the one pill"

Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) for Migraine "Nurtec ODT does not work on Excedrin rebound / medication overuse headaches. I took one Nurtec ODT 12 hours ago and it maybe dented the pain slightly, temporarily. No nausea. I either have a migraine, a headache or an Excedrin rebound headache. The over-the-counter (OTC) pain reliever Excedrin combines caffeine 65mg/caplet aspirin 250mg/ caplet and acetaminophen 250mg/ caplet. My habit is currently 3 Excedrin per day. I take an Aimovig shot 1x per month which helped the first 2 months with many Excedrin and pain free days. I took Imitrex 2x in 24 hrs yesterday and it reduced the pain level and put me to sleep but did not work very long. When I could feel the Imitrex wearing off I took the Nurtec. Nurtec, Aimovig and Imitrex and the migraine is still there. My doctor gave this to me to stop the rebound but it has failed on rebound duty."

Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) for Migraine "First time I took Nurtec ODT I had nausea. Second no nausea. Worked both times. However I have developed bilateral leg swelling. Mostly on my thighs and knees. I am only 43 and have never had this happen before. I am scared it has done damage. I won’t take again."

Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) for Migraine "Yesterday was my first time taking Nurtec ODT (that 2 dose sample pack), so I set a timer to track when (if) relief and/or side effects kicked in. 10 minutes after taking it, I almost threw up into the trash can in my office. I took 2 Zofran (for nausea), & they brought me from gagging to queasy enough to be miserable but not enough to be physically sick. There was some relief from the migraine itself about 30 more minutes later; the heavy throbbing in my head came down to an ache instead. I still received all the same sharp stabbing pains, though. At about 4-5 hours later, my headache was completely gone, though that long after the fact I question if it was the medicine or not. I've just taken the 2nd dose now, chasing it immediately with my zofran instead of waiting & eating starlight peppermints to try to control the nausea. We'll see how it does this 2nd dose. Over all, I highly doubt I'll get my GP to write an actual prescription for this, even with the discount card to counter the costs."

Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) for Migraine "I took Nurtec for the first time yesterday, on my second day of a migraine at 2pm. I first felt pins and needles all over. My headache did go away after 30 minutes. However, an hour later, it returned with a vengeance, along with nausea and blurred vision. It’s now 7pm the following day and I still have what feels like a rebound headache and my vision is still blurry. I will not be using Nurtec again and will continue seeking relief through hopefully more natural solutions—instead of all these medications with unbearable side effects."

Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) for Migraine Prevention "I’ve been taking Nurtec for a little more than a year and I’ll never go back to sumatriptan. I’ve been able to cut back on several medications and also happy that this one doesn’t cause rebound like my other meds did. I’m so thankful for this medication and how it has changed my life! I’m also thankful that my insurance covers it and it’s FREE!!!"

Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) for Migraine "I have been using Nurtec for 4 months to relieve my perimenopause hormone migraines. It worked amazing on the migraines, but be warned. I have Ulcerative Colitis and on day 3 after taking Nurtec, my colon would bleed. I started as loose stools and by month 4 started bleeding. At first, I thought it was a flare up and changed my maintenance drugs. It took 3 more months to realize that it could be the Nurtec. There is an abstract in the American Journal of Gastroenterology highlighting this possible problem with CGRP antagonist. Animal studies showed a strong link and that more studies need be done. Patients like me need to be monitored closely, but my neurologist had no knowledge of this. So with 4 months of spotty bleeding, I am now in a full on flare up that could have been halted earlier had anyone had knowledge of this possible rare side effect. So I am warning you all. Use with caution if you have IBS or IBD."

Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) for Migraine Prevention "I had terrible nausea with this medication. It lasted all day everyday and I was unable to do anything due to the extremely nausea. I rarely went to work. Nothing helped. Without medications, I have migraines everyday. This medication did not take the migraines away. I did not try it during a migraine through. But it is definitely not a preventative medication for people with chronic everyday migraines. When I took the pill within an hour, I was afraid that I was having a heart attack. It felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest for about one hour. I continued to take this medication for about 10 days hoping that these reactions would go away after I got used the medication. I finally had to stop taking it. It took about one month for the side effects to go away. It was miserable! And unfortunately, it never helped with my migraines. However, we all know that as a migraine sufferer, one will try anything to make the pain stop."

Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) for Migraine Prevention "I can find finally live my life now! I have suffered with migraines as long as I can remember. Debilitating migraines 2-3 times a week that can last for days. I cancelled so many plans over the years and missed out with family and friends since the only relief was to try to sleep it off in a dark quiet room. A large chunk of my PTO went to sleeping it off and having to miss work. It's impossible to work or function when your brain feels like it's exploding. I've tried so many things that didn't work or made it worse: topiramate, amitriptyline, migranol, IV treatments, allergic to triptans, bad reaction to Aimovig, etc. I've taken Nurtec for 6 months now as a preventative and it is the only medication that has worked for me and in a major way. Went from 2-3 migraines a week to now maybe 1 a month. And the few are so much more milder and aren't stopping me like they used to. No side effects. Thankful for the $0 copay but I'm terrified once that is over. I can't afford 2k/ month."

Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) for Migraine Prevention "HORRIBLE! Prescribed as prevention and doctor told me this was sublingual so I thought it would work faster. It took 6 hours to even feel any relief with my first dose and that was only after 3 excedrin! Migraine came back worse the next morning and I had to wait to take my next dose! Read the fine print and it is not sublingual….it’s orally dissolving and is not the same. The taste and texture are the worst when you’re sensitised having a migraine. Plus it has sucralose- a known migraine trigger….why would the company add that?? Never taking this again, and wouldn’t trust anyone I loved to take it either. Doesn’t work for getting rid of my migraines. Tried to take it w/o day for a month and didn’t do anything in preventing them. Still dealing with 2-3 a week. 0 stars if I could!!!"

Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) for Migraine "I tried Nurtec in March of 2021. I didn’t link it to the Nurtec right away but soon after I started experiencing joint pain in my thumb joints. Then after the first couple doses I noticed the joint pain in hips and neck. After taking the 5th and final dose my hand joints were throbbing. I could not even touch my hands they hurt so bad. Also I could hardly turn my neck and walking was a challenge. Finally it hit me that it has to be the Nurtec. I did nothing else. Took nothing else and it started right after starting the Nurtec. I went to my GP and he also thinks it is from the that. The problem is that it wasn’t going away after I stopped it. So I was put on prednisone which helps tremendously. But as soon as I stop or try to wean off it it returns with a vengeance. I am negative for all Rheumatoid arthritis tests including a genetic one. Never had joint pain prior to this. Have no family history of autoimmune. I am so frustrated and wish I never tried it. I want my life back."

Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) for Migraine "Nurtec relieves my migraines within 1-2 hours with little to no side effects noted. However, since I started taking Nurtec on an as-needed basis, my migraines are occurring more frequently. I used to get migraines every 2-5 weeks. Now I am getting the every 1-9 days. I can’t find literature that reports this as a side effect. Has anyone else experienced this???"

Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) for Migraine Prevention "I have been taking Nurtec for about 9 weeks, and it has helped significantly with eliminating my migraines. By taking Nurtec every other day, I am able to have a better quality of life. I had been taking Imitrex half to a full tablet every day for the past 5 years, which has made my diverticulitis, ulcers, and inflammation in my stomach and bowels worse. Nurtec has improved my gastrointestinal health overall compared to sumatriptan. I am now fasting, eating light meals and salads every day, and both migraines and stomach problems are disappearing. Inflammation in my body is reduced. I also take 200 mg of CoQ10 and have eliminated taking my 10 mg of atorvastatin. I also take vitamins A, D3, B12, B6, and Lutein."

Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) for Migraine "Nurtec has been a lifesaver. I've suffered from migraines for many years, multiple days per month. Triptans worked for me, but they knocked me out - I couldn't do anything but sleep once they kicked in for several hours, and definitely couldn't drive or work. So I'd hesitate to treat my migraines just in case it wasn't one and might get better, and then suffered badly as I waited too long most of the time. Enter Nurtec: if I feel a possible headache coming on, I take one and then continue about my day. If I have a full migraine going before taking, it works within an hour or two, and I am fully functional: can drive, work, be active, do whatever I want to do. No discernible side effects. It's easy to take. It's amazing! (Make sure to sign up for the manufacturer's coupon so it doesn't cost an arm and a leg: I pay zero with insurance and the coupon!)"

Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) for Migraine Prevention "At first , I thought this was a miracle drug, I had zero problems and interactions. I have terrible migraines and this made them go away immediately and kept them away. However, after about three weeks of taking it every other day I started having horrible heartburn. Or at least I think it was heartburn. My chest was tight and I felt just generally awful. I thought maybe I got a cold or something so I stopped taking it for a week just to make sure that wasn't what was causing it. I got better. And then I started taking it again a few days later and I have the same symptoms again. Again I'm not sure if it's just pain or indigestion so I'm going to go talk to my doctor next week. I'm just testing this here to see if anyone else is having that sort of chest pain. It feels somewhat similar to imitrex."

Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) for Migraine Prevention "This medicine has been AMAZING. Stopped the pain within 30 min every time....I will say I take it early on, so I'm not sure how it works if you wait til your in the throws of a massive migraine before you take it. The taste is actually pleasant, like a mint. A down side is how UNBELIEVABLY expensive it is. Insurance is difficult to cover it unless you have a valid and documented reason for not taking the much cheaper Triptans (Imitrex, etc). Fortunately I've been seeing a cardiologists and have had tons of tests proving the Triptans are a bit dangerous for me, so my insurance pays 100%. Last week the pharmacist told me current out of pocket for 8 Nurtec pills was $1036.00. It's insane, but it DOES work. Also, I had zero side effects and amazing relief."

Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) for Migraine "Oh my gosh…. This medication made me feel like I was on my deathbed! I took it for the first time yesterday due to a migraine I had on the same day I visited my doctor. It seemed to work for a bit but then things took a major turn for the worst. A couple of hours after taking this pill, I completely blacked out and was unconscious. I woke up only because I was aspirating on my own vomit. I ran to the bathroom and it was a horror movie scene. I then was violently ill; throwing up within 5 mins of taking a sip of water. I threw up constantly for around 5 hours and laid in my bathroom, in the dark, with a blanket and pillow. I did not mix this medicine with any other medicine that night either. My migraine got worse and I’m still fighting it today (approx 20 hrs after) and by then I was terrified to take even a Tylenol and another zofran because I was so extremely sick! Be careful with this medication! It may work for some people, but just looking at the bottle is giving me PTSD now."
