For Swine Flu "My daughter (9) and I (37) tested positive for H1N1. Both of us were prescribed Tamiflu. Both of us had to stop early (I stopped after 2 days or 4th pill, my daughter stopped after 1st day or two 7.5 mg doses). I had insomnia, bad back pain, stomach pain, and nausea. After I stopped, cramping continued for a while. My daughter’s eyes were puffy, red with blood vessels popped, nausea, and stomach pain. But the worst was at night when she was so weird! She felt like someone picked her up and dropped her back on the bed. She also had difficulty answering easy questions like “What’s your last name?” I pray that all this will go away soon. Her eyes got better the next day we stopped Tamiflu. Thank God I didn’t give Tamiflu to my 3-year-old. It was prescribed to her as a precautionary measure since she was definitely exposed to the virus. I would not forgive myself. I wonder if anybody who developed, sold, or prescribed this medication is taking it themselves. Probably not."

For Influenza "Once I started taking this medication, I felt nauseous an hour after the first dose. After completing the third dose the next day, I began vomiting until my stomach was completely empty. Taking the fourth dose, I became nauseous again and made the decision not to take it anymore. Worst feeling ever, I dreaded having to take each dose. Made me feel terrible, and the nausea was unbearable and ruined any appetite I had. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone!"

For Influenza "All I can say is thank God for anti-nausea meds! I took Tamiflu with a bit of food, as instructed, and within 20-30 mins was violently throwing up, which wasn’t at all part of my flu symptoms. Back to the doctor I went to get anti-nausea meds prescribed, and the moment I took them, I felt completely better. Ate more food and was able to easily take Tamiflu with no issues. I understand it’s a super strong drug, but if you really need it, I recommend requesting an anti-nausea medication to go along with it."

For Influenza "I work with children, so I get the occasional cold, but this time it wouldn’t remit with the normal over-the-counter stuff, so three days ago, off I go to Urgent Care. The doc gave me Tamiflu. Day one, liquids and just in bed, no energy, almost no food. Day two, chills, sweats, no energy. Day three, I’m feeling worse: chills, sweats. Now I’m visiting the Oval Office (bathroom) every 20-45 minutes: diarrhea/nausea, so you cough and, well, you throw up. I can’t sleep, I’m tired, it’s 4:30 a.m., and if I close my eyes, I have nightmares in a semi-sleep. Irritability or plain anxiety... okay, that’s where I stop. I started reading about Tamiflu, this drug is no joke, it’s strong, and side effects are real. Now I wonder how long before I flush this out of my system. For me, it helped with symptoms, but the side effects are WAY STRONG. Cost of doctor visit + meds: $300! And now I feel worse..."

For Influenza "Started with chills and an achy body. Temperature peaked at 101.7. Went to the doctor and was given Tamiflu. After two doses, my temperature had gone back to normal. I did feel nauseous after the first dose and took Zofran to relieve the nausea. Fever did return, but only a little over 100. After four doses, no fever and feel pretty normal. Mind you, I did get the flu shot as I do every year. This is the first time in 30 years that I have gotten the flu!"

For Influenza "If your flu symptoms are bad enough that you feel like it is the end, then this medicine is a godsend. But the side effects really do suck. I had a ton of sinus pressure, sneezing, body aches, and delirium from fever before I took this. These symptoms went from a 10 to a 5 overnight thanks to Tamiflu, but now I have nausea and headaches to deal with. The nausea especially is really bad. If your flu symptoms are mild, I would keep this in mind."

For Influenza "Tested positive for influenza via nasal swab on 2nd day of symptoms. Noticed significant improvements: fever gone within 24 hours, body aches gone, headache gone, extreme fatigue gone, nausea gone. Left with what feels like a minor respiratory infection (i.e., chesty cough but not very painful) and I still tire easily but not 'extreme fatigue.' Was also given Augmentin as a prophylactic against bacterial pneumonia as I have a history of secondary bacterial chest infections following the flu. This has been an absolute miracle drug for me personally, and I hope the same comes to the others in need of it on this site."

For Influenza "My fever went down within a few hours, and I was feeling better the next day, but weak. After finishing the last dose of 5 days, I became extremely nauseous, and my abdomen hurt so badly I didn't think I would survive. I didn't vomit, but stomach pain was excruciating. It has lasted over 24 hours so far, and I can't find any advice regarding what to do about the pain."

For Influenza "I was prescribed Tamiflu after being ill with a strange and strong flu virus, but it made me feel so much worse, with vomiting, nausea, dizziness, and headaches in addition to my flu symptoms. It really isn’t worth it, and I wish I wasn’t prescribed it because now I’m faced with the task of finishing it because you have to complete the pack. I’m dreading taking the next one. It really isn’t worth feeling this way for hardly any benefits. Plus, it’s super expensive."

For Influenza "Felt tingle in throat and moderate joint pain Tuesday night. Woke up Wednesday morning full-blown flu. Severe joint pain, headache, body ache, and minor cough. Felt like I had been hit by a truck. Had a 103 temp. Went to Dr. and was prescribed Tamiflu and Z-Pac. Slept all day Wednesday and night. Woke up Thursday temp down to 99 and felt 90% better. Friday, all symptoms of flu are gone and normal temp. Was given 5 days of Tamiflu, so I took another and got very nauseated. Don't know if I'll finish the prescription or not."

For Influenza "I woke up Monday morning and I had started to feel really run down and exhausted. I thought I just had a bad cold, so I just made sure to rest all day. Tuesday morning I woke up with a fever, congestion, and I could barely get out of bed. Thursday afternoon I finally went to the doctor, where I was diagnosed with the Influenza A (H3N2) virus. They prescribed me Tamiflu to see if it would help with my symptoms. So that Thursday night at around 10 pm, I took the medicine, and an hour later, the nausea started. I began throwing up too. I have never felt so nauseous before, it was horrible! I ended up in the emergency room at 4 am to see if they could give me anti-nausea medication to make it stop, and they did. I did take the medication on an empty stomach, but that's because I had absolutely no appetite all week while sick. I definitely won't be taking this medication again. It is not worth feeling that nauseous ever again!"

For Influenza "I was so sick I could barely open my eyes, or talk, or walk. Fever 40°C, chills, constant vomiting. Massive dehydration. Thought I would have a heart attack. Was ready to call an ambulance. Took Tamiflu. Vomited the first dose. The next morning, ate toast, tried again. Kept it down. Felt nauseous but concentrated on keeping it down. Well, by that afternoon, fever gone. Not out of the woods yet, but big improvement. Look, I was 11/10 sick, and this stuff took me to about an 8/10 in 12 hours. By 2 days later, I'm about a 5/10. It makes you hallucinate, but if you're lying in bed sleeping, just think of it as dreams. I decided to be the boss here. I ate a piece of toast (even though I wasn't hungry) before every dose. I put nice calm music on to ensure my dreams and hallucinations were calm also. Don't drink water in the first 30 minutes of taking it, it will make it easier to keep down. If you're truly very, very sick, these side effects don't matter compared to the improvement. It could save your life."

For Influenza Prophylaxis "I came down with the flu TYPE B, a local clinic wrote me a prescription. The Dr. told me it wouldn't make me feel better, but rather shorten the duration. I figured I might as well try it. I've stopped after 3 doses-awful diarrhea and nausea. I'd rather let nature take its course than go through what I have for the last 10 hours."

For Influenza "Both my children and I got the flu and were prescribed Tamiflu. I was surprised that even with insurance, it cost 46 bucks per prescription. Seems a bit high to me. I couldn't even get my kids to take it because the taste of it made my son throw up. I stopped taking mine about three days in because of how sick to my stomach it made me feel. If I get the flu again, I will just ride it out and not bother with the Tamiflu."

For Influenza "I was prescribed Tamiflu yesterday evening, and it's been about 24 hours since my first dose. I feel amazingly better, although not 100%. Just after the first dose, I woke up with some nausea and body aches, but nothing like the morning before. After the second dose and some ibuprofen, I had no fever, no body aches, and was able to eat a whole meal. My pulse was 146 at the doctor's yesterday, and now is in the 80's again! That is amazing. They told me it would only shorten the illness by 12 hours, but within 12, I felt better. After 24 hours, I feel about normal, aside from some body aches and a slight sore throat."

For Influenza "Started taking Tamiflu, and within 24 hours, felt like I was on a boat and out to sea. I was nauseous, dizzy, had a nonstop headache, and even got a beautiful speckled body rash as a consolation prize. This drug is horrible, and it seems the potential side effects outweigh the benefits altogether. The fact that I paid over $100 for this medicine and cannot stomach taking another dose makes me even more upset. For the next time, it'll be lots of fluids, rest, teas, and some old-school TheraFlu."

For Influenza "Started having headache and body aches on the night of January 10. I never had experienced such intense body ache before. Had low fever, 101F, on January 11, but I couldn't get a doctor's appointment till January 12. She did a nose swab, and results confirmed influenza A. I started Aleve to alleviate body ache at the same time as when I started Tamiflu, between light breakfast and lunch. I noticed diarrhea later that day but thought it was flu related, so I started diarrhea medication. Body aches dissipated through that night, and by next morning I could stop Aleve. Flu symptoms cleared since January 14, except for a slight dry cough with no chest involvement and slight allergy-like cold. Tamiflu worked for me, but has side effects of diarrhea and slight nausea."

For Influenza "After spending a co-pay of $65 on this medicine, I couldn't even keep 1 pill down! So disappointed because I felt awful from the flu, and I spent so much money on this medicine, yet it would instantly cause me to feel nauseous, eventually leading to vomiting."

For Influenza "My 12-year-old daughter was diagnosed with flu B. She started this right away. Since the symptoms of flu and side effects of Tamiflu can be similar, it’s difficult to say. But she is now fever-free without medication 48 hours after onset. I’m hoping and thinking the Tamiflu helped her body get control of the virus. I’m stopping it today because she feels pretty good, and I don’t want to ruin it for her. She did have dizziness, nausea despite anti-nausea medication, but she had it before Tamiflu too. Who knows? But none of the serious side effects for her."

For Influenza "Flu commenced Saturday morning, felt like I was hit by a bus. Fever, joints aching, head pounding, dry cough, chills, and weakness. All I could do was sleep. First dose of Tamiflu that evening. Sunday, flu symptoms still there, started easing Sunday night. Monday, headache gone, aches mostly gone, cough reduced, fever gone, still feel a bit weak. For an immune-suppressed person, feeling like this is the quickest recovery I have ever made from a flu, usually, I get secondary infections, and so far, I haven't. I think because I started taking it so early, it stopped the progression of the virus. I also ensured that I ate enough before each tablet to keep away nausea, and it worked."

For Influenza "I was swabbed and diagnosed with influenza type A - H2N3. I started Tamiflu about 18 hours after initial symptom onset. Two days after starting Tamiflu, the worst symptoms are almost entirely gone. I am still fatigued and have some respiratory crud, but the severe headache, muscle and joint pain, and fever are gone. I have some minor, transient nausea, but I don't know if that's the medicine or the illness."

For Influenza "I was diagnosed with the flu. I was prescribed Tamiflu. The doses on the first day were okay. The first dose on the second day caused me to wish I never took it. It started with a headache, then diarrhea, then nausea, then vomiting, then bloody diarrhea. It started at 9:25 a.m. It's now 5:50 p.m., and no relief in sight! Whomever invented this 'drug' should be made to take it. I feel worse now than when I started having the flu!"

For Influenza "Tested positive for the flu and felt worse than I ever have. My body aches were like nothing I’ve ever experienced. Sore throat and cough as well. Dr. prescribed Tamiflu. One downside was the nausea it caused, so try to eat something if possible. But the next day I felt WAY better, still can’t believe it."

For Avian Influenza "Severe flu, tested positive for avian. On initial dose, I believe it gave some body ache relief. After that, the nausea was so bad I just forced myself to eat to have something in my tummy. By the third day, I was nauseated and vomiting, so I stopped entirely. For me, the cure was as bad as the flu issues themselves. For most others, it was fine. After reading Tamiflu will only shorten duration by a day, I don’t see why this is even prescribed-with or without the side effects-as I still continued to take OTC meds for horrid cough, fever, and severe headache."
