For Birth Control "Not a fan of Skyla at all. My doctor recommended it because I have had issues with the pill in the past (severe depression, which when not on birth control, I have never experienced). Not only was the insertion incredibly painful, but I have had constant bloating, gas pain, and discomfort every single day. It is to the point where it wakes me up in the middle of the night in pain, there is little to no relief, and I am constantly uncomfortable. Due to this, I went to see a gastro doctor, who thinks it is triggered by the IUD and said to talk to the GYN. The GYN thinks it is coincidental timing and is gastro-related, talk to the gastro. I am getting no answers, and on top of this, have had over 5 weeks of bleeding, to which my GYN says is normal for the IUD. I don't usually write reviews, but I am so fed up with this that I wanted to share my experience! I am now on month 5 of the IUD and want to wait out the 6 months, and if symptoms persist, I am getting it taken out."

For Birth Control "Got Skyla in December 2018 and bled for about four months every day. Some days heavy, some lighter. I never got pregnant, but I did gain about 12 pounds and got cystic acne, which I had never had before. Insertion was horrible. I have had Paragard before and actually just switched back to it, and the insertion process is much smoother with Paragard. Watch videos on IUD insertions, you’ll then understand why Skyla hurts more. Overall, wouldn’t recommend. Periods never went away, but did get lighter. For me, the weight gain and acne just wasn’t worth it. Also had severe cramping for about two months. So happy to have it out!"

For Birth Control "Used Skyla for three months in total and became pregnant my third month of usage, and switched to Nexplanon immediately after the abortion. With Skyla, I experienced irregular bleeding, but very lightly the first two months. Major back pain. Terrible cramping for a good two weeks. The insertion felt horrible, and it took forever to get in because the NP couldn’t pry through my cervix. I do not recommend this birth control at all."

For Birth Control "I'm 22 years old, and I got the Skyla inserted on Aug 12th. The insertion part didn't hurt at all! I had bleeding a day or two and then nothing, still cramped but not bad. My boyfriend and I tried to have sex on day three, but he was getting stabbed pretty hard. We kept trying from there, and he was still getting stabbed. I told my doctors, but all they said was just wait, the strings probably haven't softened, so we tried once a week; sadly, still nothing. We were finally able to have sex at the beginning of September. Then I started bleeding after. I went to get my IUD checked out because I could feel it, and the docs couldn't find it. Had an ultrasound, it was fine. Now we are still unable to have sex again."

For Birth Control "These reviews had me worried about the pain, but to be honest, the insertion wasn't bad at all. Yes, it was uncomfortable, but it was completely manageable. I'm 25 and have never had children. After insertion, there was slight bleeding throughout the day, but nothing major, just spotting. I would definitely recommend Skyla."

For Birth Control "I am 19 years old, I went to the OBGYN yesterday and got Skyla put in. I have had no kids and thought the pain was very tolerable and did not hurt at all. I did experience bleeding at first, then spotting and a bit of cramping, but not bad at all compared to the periods I experienced. Highly recommend."

For Birth Control "I've recently gotten the Skyla inserted. It's easier than trying to remember the pill every day. However, I have been in constant pain since it was inserted, and I have been spotting/bleeding for weeks. It is quite uncomfortable, and the pain/bleeding gets worse after sex. It's bad enough that I cannot stand or walk at times because of the discomfort."

For Birth Control "I got Skyla about a month ago, and so far, nothing crazy has happened. I have almost zero pain tolerance, so the insertion sucked. It was a lot of pressure, but pretty bearable up until he went to measure my cervix and was actually inserting the Skyla. I also haven't had any kids, so that also plays a factor. I had some pretty bad cramps the day of and the day after, but nothing after that. The only real complaint I have about it is the nonstop bleeding and spotting. It went on for about 3 weeks and finally stopped a few days ago. It's nice to not have to worry about taking a pill every day or going to get a shot every 3 months. If you're considering it, go talk to your OBGYN about your options and DO NOT go just off of what others say!"

For Birth Control "I was worried about an IUD because my hormones are already out of whack, and Skyla has the lowest dosage, so that's why I chose Skyla. Insertion was fine. Had some cramps and lots of bleeding, was always checking if it was still inside me. Just me being paranoid. Months roll by, and I have never ever had cramps so bad in my life, and the bleeding was heavier than ever. A year rolls by, and cramps are still really painful. Periods still come around once a month, heavier bleeding, not pregnant. Hormones are better. I haven't felt so moody like I was in the beginning. Weight gain in the beginning, but then I lost weight from watching what I eat. I think my body got used to Skyla. Overall, Skyla has not gotten me pregnant. I dislike the period cramps, and the heavy bleeding sucks. I am feeling good about Skyla so far. The pill got me pregnant, and the Depo shot made me gain so much weight. Everybody literally has a different experience."

For Birth Control "I'm only 17, and I absolutely love my Skyla IUD. I chose the IUD because it has almost no side effects, no required maintenance, and lasts 3 years. Insertion was pretty uncomfortable but very quick, didn't get lightheaded or anything, and the cramps came immediately afterward. They felt like my usual pretty bad menstrual cramps, but it also feels like something is in there, it's a different kind of cramp. After insertion, I had light bleeding, then brownish discharge, then for the next 3-ish months, I bled just like a light period. After that bleeding stage, I still haven't gotten another period, absolutely no other symptoms. I seriously forget I have it, have had unprotected sex since, and am still not pregnant, lol. I really recommend it!"

For Birth Control "I got Skyla for birth control and also because I was having irregular/long periods (usually 12-14 days of a 28-32 day cycle that varied). In the first months after I got it, I did see an increase in acne (I am already prone to acne, but it did get worse). Throughout, I have had frequent spotting and irregular bleeding. I have had two 'periods' that lasted 23 days with light bleeding/spotting and maybe 1-2 days of heavier bleeding. So basically since I have been on Skyla, more than half of my life I have spotting. It has been very frustrating. I am considering switching to Kyleena or to a different birth control completely because I pretty much always have spotting. I think 8 months is long enough to see that this is not a good fit for me. Has anyone else had similar experiences?"

For Birth Control "Ok, so this review is for the women who are mothers like myself, and all you keep reading are these horror stories about how painful the process was. I had Skyla inserted this morning. I was very nervous because all I kept reading was how painful it was. I took 800 mg of ibuprofen because that's what they told me when I scheduled the appointment. The whole process took about 5 minutes, including the Pap smear and the actual placement. I felt ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, not a thing (thank goodness!!). No cramping, no bleeding, nothing. The Pap smear was more uncomfortable, but that's just me. It's been a few hours since my appointment, and I feel great. Honestly, let's see how the next days go. I am a mother of 2, with my newborn being 7 weeks old. I'm 23 years old."

For Birth Control "Super painful when I got it inserted. Almost fainted. Cramps continued and continued on and off for the LONGEST. I've been with it for almost a year now, and I'm still getting the constant cramping. Not to mention the constant spotting/bleeding for the first 4-6 months was horrible as well. It was told to me that my periods were gonna be lighter and cramps lighter as well. But I experienced the complete opposite. I did gain weight as well. I don't recommend this to anyone. Literally."

For Birth Control "I got my Skyla placed in March 2015 - I'm 21 and never had kids. The insertion was terribly painful, and I stayed in pain for about 3 or 4 days. I've bled/spotted for most days out of the month since I got it put in. I've gained a lot of weight with this IUD, and my acne has gotten a lot worse. I went to my doctor about my bleeding, and after looking at it, he said that everything was fine and there was nothing that he could do to stop the bleeding/spotting, and I would have to deal with it until it went away on its own. I would get this removed early, but because of how painful it was to get it inserted, I'm terrified that it's going to hurt just as bad. As far as keeping me from getting pregnant, it's 100% effective. I wouldn't recommend."

For Birth Control "I got Skyla about 2 months ago, and the bleeding has not stopped. Pads and tampons have been a part of my life for the past two months, it's so annoying. The insertion pain wasn't that bad, it was just like a really strong period cramp. So far, I'm just annoyed with the bleeding and spotting, it's so inconvenient."

For Birth Control "I will make 3 years of being on Skyla in April 2018. So far, I have had a miserable experience on Skyla. When I first got it inserted, I cramped and bled for 2 months straight. I went back in for checkups during those two months, and the doctor said it was normal and that my body was just adjusting. The bleeding stopped after the 3rd month, but started back immediately after having sex. From that point on, it was a constant cycle of stopping, sex, and bleeding back on. I would say, out of an entire month, I only had like 10 days (if that) of not bleeding. My cycles were not heavy, and I didn't really experience any cramps, but bleeding constantly gets to be annoying. I would probably not get a new one inserted after my 3 years are over."

For Birth Control "So I was extremely nervous to get an IUD because I heard it was horrible pain to get inserted. Then, at my appointment, they said I was too small for Mirena and offered to do Skyla, which I hadn't had a chance to Google or anything, so I was a little skeptical. I had psyched myself up for the appointment, so I ended up going ahead with Skyla. The pain of insertion was maybe 8 out of 10 and lasted for 10 seconds. I had horrendous cramps and bleeding the first 5 days after implantation. I recommend taking time off work and wish I had taken more than 2 days off. I had light spotting for about a month and have not had a single period or spotting since. It's been 6 months, I lost 15 lbs just from switching off oral pills. I LOVE SKYLA."

For Birth Control "I had the Skyla inserted last May. It was great, my cycles were only about 4 days, no heavy bleeding, light cramps. The insert wasn't bad, just cramps. After a year and 2 months, I got pregnant. My OBGYN was in disbelief, so was I. Of course, it was an ectopic pregnancy. The IUD was removed ASAP. My OBGYN gave me 2 shots to stop the pregnancy from growing. I made 5 visits after and during to have my HCG level checked."

For Birth Control "Getting this IUD inserted was the worst pain I've ever experienced. I was screaming so loudly at the doctor's office the entire time. I almost threw up from the pain. Three days later, I started bleeding, and it hasn't stopped for 25 days. I'm already anemic, so this is really worrying me. I've been very lightheaded, plus I'm having terrible cramps. I very rarely ever had period cramps before, and now they are unbearable. I have to lean against the wall or sit down, the pain is so bad. Plus, it's making me feel that I'm not in control of my emotions. I've been moody, and my anxiety has gotten worse. Plus, my acne is getting so bad since I got this IUD. My libido has also decreased, and sex is painful. My boyfriend is a doctor, so he assured me it was safe, but he was wrong. I'm so upset I got this instead of continuing to take the pill. I would NOT recommend getting this IUD. I really want it removed. I'd rather have a baby than deal with these symptoms for a full 6 months!"

For Birth Control "I just got Skyla inserted this morning. I wanted to write this review for anyone who is nervous about the procedure or feels discouraged from all the negative reviews out there about IUDs. I went in expecting the worst pain of my entire life, and it turned out not to even make my top 5 most painful experiences. It was painful, but it was not unbearably so, and it was over so quickly. About a minute of being uncomfortable (that included the speculum and the positioning of the cervix) and six seconds of more intense pain (during the sounding and the actual insertion). The pain was like a very bad menstrual cramp. I felt nauseous and faint afterwards, but not too bad. I have had some light bleeding, but barely any cramping whatsoever."

For Birth Control "I had the Skyla IUD put in because I thought it would keep hormones localized and not through my whole body, and be an easy form of birth control. The insertion was awful, and I had super intense cramps for months afterward, with bleeding randomly at least half the days of the month. I got horrible cystic acne, lost a ton of hair, and lost ten pounds in one month due to nausea. After four months, I had it removed and instantly felt better. Two months later, my hair is growing back and acne is clearing up. The side effects were awful for me, but I have friends who love it. Depends on the person."

For Birth Control "I'm 28, no kids, never pregnant. I've expelled Paragard twice, so I tried Skyla because it is smaller, more flexible, and had fewer hormones than Mirena or Ocella. I had Skyla inserted 3 weeks ago and have yet to stop bleeding - which is getting very frustrating. It's not a full-scale period, but heavy spotting, enough to fill a few panty liners a day or a thin pad. From everything I've seen online and on the Skyla website, prolonged bleeding is common in 59% of women for the first 90 days. Hopefully, this stops soon because I would really love for an IUD to work for me."

For Birth Control "In May of 2010, I went into labor at 20 weeks, but other than that, I do not have any kids. I typically have a high pain tolerance, but when I went and got the Skyla put in, I started having contractions. This lasted for about 30 minutes and, of course, did not feel very good. I cramped for the rest of the day, but other than that, haven't had any 'difficulties.' I was on the depo shot for 2+ years, and my periods had gone away. I've had light bleeding with the Skyla and was told this was normal. I've only been on it for a little over a month now, but I've noticed that the past few weeks I have been SUPER hungry. I'm not sure if this is because my 'periods' are coming back or what, but I'm hoping this goes away."

For Birth Control "I had the Skyla insertion after being on the pill and absolutely hated the hormones. I had it inserted about 8 months ago. Insertion was a bit uncomfortable but nothing unbearable. Cramps were mild for a few days and some bleeding. I have had few side effects. I gained around 6 pounds, which sucked, but I'll take it over baby weight. My boyfriend nor I can feel it during sex. I don't get a period anymore, it seems, which is pretty great, at first, it got lighter and lighter and then just went away. It's worry-free and lasts 4 years. Definitely getting it done again when the 4 years is up."

For Birth Control "So I've had the IUD inserted sometime in November, a little before Thanksgiving, and I've had serious, serious bleeding and lots of bad cramping, days where I'm not even able to get out of bed! Can't remember when was the last time I didn't run to the store for women's necessities (pads, tampons)... debating whether to make an appointment with my OB/GYN to get it removed! And I can't forget to mention the nausea, bad temper, mood swings, and tears. I hope this BC works for some of you girls! Good luck."
