Horizant (gabapentin enacarbil) for Postherpetic Neuralgia "This medication saved my life. After a cervical fusion, my nerves never healed back to normal and I am stuck with permanent nerve damage. The constant burning and cervical headaches killed my career and I lost 3 years of my life. I was more dead than alive due to constant burning pain at the base of my skull down my neck and into my shoulder and upper back. I received Horizant as a sample and thought nothing of it. I had been trying different meds for 3 years and they never worked. I woke up on day 4 of taking Horizant and thought what was that odd feeling in my neck? It took a few minutes to realize I was feeling muscle aches and NOT BURNING. My burning stopped for the first time in 3 years. I started a whole new life. This medication gave me a second chance to live. Unfortunately, my insurance won’t pay for it and I have challenges getting it filled. Today, I paid $226 for 14 pills. I have been without and the pain is back. I could only afford a partial refill."

Horizant (gabapentin enacarbil) for Postherpetic Neuralgia "Since I had my bilateral groin hernia, I have been using Horizon for nerve pain. Was the only medicine works for me. I have to stop using for 2 months because was so expensive . My co-payment was $300.00 . My dr found this pharmacy in CT that sell me for $20 per month prescription . My insurance pays and they give me for only $20 a month. I take the 300 mg because the 600mg is too strong for me."

For Postherpetic Neuralgia "They were prescibed for chronic pain in the nerves, they leave you impotent. They don't work and they are the worst drugs to get off. Like ssri's people need to start complaining about all the negative side effects of all these new drugs like trazodone as well. If you read this "You have been warned" they are very addicting and you will spend a lot of time trying to get off this crap that doesn't work. They all need to be sued in a class action lawsuit."

For Postherpetic Neuralgia "Have been on Neurontin for years, never happy with the results. I have rheumatoid arthritis, migraines, extreme anxiety panic disorder etc. No RLS. Talked a doctor into letting me make a lateral move to Horizant. It makes me extremely nauseated but the results are miraculous. No medication works the same for everyone. It’s like rolling the dice. Does the benefits outweigh the risk? Yes for me"

Horizant (gabapentin enacarbil) for Restless Legs Syndrome "I have had RLS for 5 yrs. My GP, after trial and error from other drs (Neurontin, Lyrica, anti-depressant...all with zero efficacy) started me on Ropinerole, titrating dosages until I ended up on 4mg ER and 0.25 mg for breakthrough. I was feeling very sedated, and symptoms occurring earlier and earlier (augmentation). So went to sleep specialist (6 months wait). Moderate to severe RLS dx. Took me off 4mg ER and on 0.5 mg Ropinerole, Oxycodone 5mg once daily( 1pm). Helped a lot. Some breakthroughs and with 0.5 mg, could self-manage...but still breakthroughs. Now, I'm on 2mg Ropinerole ER, oxycodone 3x daily. Dr just added Horizant 300mg once daily pm. Took it last night and woke with my leg kicking! Took Ropinerole to stop it. Was very groggy from Horizant. Was wondering if the effect is cumulative because it certainly made things worse last night. Going to keep trying for a week or so, because it would be nice to be on once a day dosing.. without the fear of breakthrough episodes."

For Restless Legs Syndrome "I suffer from extreme RLS, and have for the last 15 years. It was getting to be an every night occurance, and sometimes I felt like literally cutting my legs off, and wished my legs would be paralyzed, just so I wouldn't feel them, anymore! The only thing that ever worked for me was 10 mg of valium. But, I would never take it, two days in a row, for fear of addiction. I would try all my essentials oils first, and would only take a valium, as a last resort. But, my neurologist stopped prescribing more than 3 pills a month at a time, due to the drug epidemics. Now, it's tough for all the truly legitimate people, who need them! Two months ago, my neurologist prescribed me Horizant ER 600 mg at bedtime. It has helped me tremendously with my RLS! (Although, not as well as the valium did). I still have a occasional minor episodes with RLS, but it beats having them every single night and day! He has recently additionally added 1 mg of Requip. So far, it has helped me, even more."

For Restless Legs Syndrome "I had sudden permanent hearing loss in one ear while taking Neurontin/Gabapentin at 1:30 a.m., March 2, 2004. I was also taking the pain medication Hydrocodon/Lortab. I used both for 1 1/2 years for pain after back fusion. After a pharmacist told me it could cause hearing loss, I discontinued using it. I have met others who also had this hearing loss while taking the medication. Others had less severe hearing loss. At the time, side effects for this medication listed the chances for this happening as one out of 300, saying it was rare. Another listed it as one out of 1,000. This doesn't appear to be a rare incidence."

Horizant (gabapentin enacarbil) for Restless Legs Syndrome "I have suffered from RLS since 2007. I started taking pramipexole then switched over to Neupro patch which left me with second-degree burns. My insurance left me hanging for 3-1/2 weeks to get approval for Horizant, I was miserable by the time I finally received the medication. I started at 300mg and then increased up to 600mg the following week. Am starting to feel better and hoping this will work."

For Postherpetic Neuralgia "Diagnosed with fibromyalgia and had tried so many different meds for it without any good results. Finally got prescribed Horizant and have been on it for 4 days now. Started at 600mg first night and had a bad experience . Doc gave me new prescription for 300mg once per day and slowly I believe it is starting to work. My pain has improved a little bit every day and my sleep is improving also. Since it has been only 4 days I'm hoping to see more improvement as time goes by. Doc wants me to stay on 300mg for a month then up it to 600mg. If I continue to feel better I think I will up it after a week and see what happens. I will post updates."

"I was diagnosed with ADHD at a young age and have experienced anxiety and extreme frustration since my preteen years. I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder at age 14 or so. I asked my doctor about gabapentin for anxiety disorder at age 25, after a friend told me she was prescribed it after talking to her therapist. I was informed that it is not typically prescribed for anxiety, but is helpful to some people. I started on a dose of 100mg at night and 200mg in the morning. Upon taking my first dose, I experienced euphoria that lasted for several hours, but never occurred again as I continued the medication. I found it incredibly helpful for my anxiety and my general irritation; when I’m on a proper dosage of gabapentin, I simply am not bothered by the little things that snowball into anxiety, irritation, and even anger over the course of a day, and I find myself overall happier, more hopeful, and more sociable. Side effect: drowsiness."

"Started taking for chronic back pain. Doc said it’s for nerve pain. 600 mg at 5pm. Huge difference. My back is probably messed up from a herniated disk/pinched nerve and has hurt for 4 years. This is the first time I’ve been able to walk standing straight by the end of the day. I mean, I still have some pain, but it’s greatly reduced. Plus I can sleep the whole night without waking up every hour because of pain. Got samples from doc so not sure about cost yet. But I found a copay help card online for it."

Horizant (gabapentin enacarbil) for Restless Legs Syndrome "I have suffered from severe small fiber neuropathy (SFM) pain and restless leg syndrome for 10 years or more. I take pain medication for the SFN, which helps with the pain. But does not help the RLS. I could not tolerate other medications for RLS. None of them helped with my symptoms & the side effects were intolerable. Regular Gabapentin also did not help with my neuropathy pain or my RLS. I did try Horizant for the first time about a week ago for my severe restless leg syndrome. I used the sample my doctor gave me. I take 600 mg at night with my meal. I noticed results the first day. I would definitely recommend this medication for RLS. Amazing for me and no negative side effects and I sleep much better!"

"I've been using this pill for quite awhile now for my Neuropathy. I also am so happy not to be up all night walking the perimeter of the house. But from what I am reading, others talk about taking one pill and felt better. I had to keep increasing my dosage til I am maxed out. I take two 600mg. three times a day. But still up all night, not in pain, just awake. So happy to find this medication. Really helped with my pain."

For Restless Legs Syndrome "I have been taking a combination of Gabapentin and Requip for 20 years after a lower back injury. I have cleared up the pain from the injury of the lower back, but still have to take the combination of the two drugs and so for after 20 years I have had no side effects. The drugs work great for me. My doctors recently retired and now I have a total quack that says she knows best and have been trying to reduce the requip by 1/2 and the gabapentin by 1/2 also, it will be so hard on me if she does."

For Restless Legs Syndrome "I have had RLS for over 20 years. I have been taking Pramipexole (Mirapex) for several years which works great for me, except I experience augmentation, which causes me to have to increase my dosage. I just tried using Horizant and after 5 days so far this drug has not worked for me. I'm going to try giving it a few more days, but then it's back to Pramipexole for me. I need sleep."

For Postherpetic Neuralgia "I prefer this extended release version of gabapentin. The standard Gabapentin made me much too drowsy. Although, this Med doesn't work as well in relieving my foot neuropathy, I can tolerate it much better in the extended release. So, considering feeling less drowsy with relief or being in a fog with more relief, I prefer the Horizant."
