For Depression "Have been on for over 10 years. Worked well for approximately 8-9 years but less effective since 2019. Now it is early 2023 and have experienced a severe exacerbation of severe depression and need new medication/treatments. Stress and anxiety are out of control too."

For Chronic Pain "I took Cymbalta for a month at 30 mg and then increased the dose to 60 mg. It is a week later, and this morning I woke up to an almost pain-free experience. Cymbalta is strong: it temporarily made me overly wakeful at night, and my appetite has decreased. But this is a small price to pay for freedom from brutal arthritis pain and a more positive outlook. I am incredibly grateful for this medication, especially as I have now been able to stop taking NSAIDs for pain relief."

For Depression "Cymbalta quite literally saved my life. I was so depressed and suicidal and literally thought I was gonna die next week. I decided to take this drug because it was my last chance of hope, and I have never taken medication before. The first two days, I felt euphoric, almost like too happy. After that, my depression came back for a week, but then after two weeks, I felt like a normal, happy person again. I recommend anyone suffering with depression and anxiety to try this med, and if it doesn’t work, you just have to try something else."

For Chronic Pain "I am 73 and was on Cymbalta for 5 months. I have lumbar pain from 2 failed fusions. The Cymbalta reduced my pain after a few months, and I was so happy and thankful UNTIL! Cymbalta caused collagenous microscopic colitis, which was horrible. I then found several warnings on the internet that said Cymbalta causes this in 51% of women over 60 after 6 months of taking it. Too bad my doctor didn’t know or care to tell me."

For Chronic Pain "Started this medication, Cymbalta, on Monday night. No problem until Wednesday night, and I couldn’t fall asleep. I had to get out of bed because I couldn’t sleep. I felt so jittery in the morning, but my mood was feeling pretty good. I decided to take my blood pressure, and my standing heart rate was 138. It’s usually around 70. Went to the ER (Thanksgiving day), and they did all the proper blood work, X-ray, and tried to bring the heart rate down. They couldn’t get it down past 100, kept me overnight, and had an echocardiogram the next day. Everyone checked out, and the cardiologist told me it was the Cymbalta."

For Chronic Pain "This medicine is okay for pain, the problem is you have to take it every day, and your body gets addicted to it. When you want to stop taking this medication, you will become very depressed. I became suicidal, I could not leave my house. I knew if I got in my car, I would have driven headfirst into a truck. I had to fight every urge I had to destroy my house. I wanted to break everything. These kinds of meds should NOT be prescribed for pain!!!!"

For Major Depressive Disorder "Prescribed 30 mg initially, then increased to 60 mg a day. Initially excited because have used every SSRI in the last 30 years. Cymbalta is an SNRI, which I thought would help with motivation, task completion, goal setting, lessen neuropathy pain, and decrease depression. I do NOT recommend Cymbalta because the only result was a rotating cycle of endless side effects ranging from bald patches to low blood pressure. My physical pain increased both in severity and frequency. Had to take Epsom salt baths daily. Frequently dizzy, no energy, no motivation, and mentally felt bleh. Believe they refer to this as blunted. It is as if the Cymbalta tricked my emotions into believing I didn't care about anything. However, the depression rebound felt like a full-on physical assault. My headaches lasted several days. Even taking Adderall at the same time didn't decrease my daytime fatigue. Would not recommend."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I was introduced to Cymbalta after many failed attempts of other meds for my extreme anxiety and depression. Before, I had problems sleeping, I had muscle pain from my anxiety, and I would be permanently tense. After Cymbalta, I FEEL NORMAL! I can go out in public and talk to strangers, I feel so free! A weird thing I’ve noticed is that in the past, I felt my brain was having 10 thoughts at once, now I only have 1 thought at a time in my head, and I can focus! I’m now on 90 mg and plan to go down once my situation changes, but it saved my life, and I’m so happy. After 18 years of staying in a bed and hiding from the world, I am a person in society confidently!"

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I’m 30 years old. I started this drug about 5 days ago. Day 1-3 was horrible. I had side effects of fatigue, nausea, mild panic attacks, muscular skeletal pain and spasms on my eyelid, dry mouth, and some dizziness that faded. I am still experiencing muscle spasms, a little nausea, loss of appetite, and some depersonalization here and there. I noticed the positives. I felt some euphoria, less depression, and less fatigue, but overall I’m trying to do my best to just rough it out and see in the next 3 days if things get better. It is different for everyone. I’m only on a 30 mg dose, but little by little, I have breakthroughs that are positive. My thoughts did race a little, but just gotta pray and have hope it works. Overall, some of the negatives disappear. I will keep people updated! I have autism, ADHD, GAD, and PTSD, so just keep praying."

For Fibromyalgia "I was prescribed Cymbalta 7 years ago for myofascial pain syndrome I had struggled with for over 30 years. I had tried every pain medication and treatment, including injections, available with no pain relief. Cymbalta kicked in after about 4 months and kept me pain-free for about 6 years, it was a lifesaver! Now, it seems to have stopped working. I'm in pain all over again. Feeling hopeless."

For Chronic Pain "With my horrendous childhood combined with being a paramedic, add stage 3 cancer, I was a mess. Only 20 mg x 1 a day and requesting 30 x 2. Initial dosage is letting in the nightmares. But I am back. 41 years of marriage and +17 after CA notice - I laugh and go with the flow."

For Chronic Pain "I was prescribed Cymbalta because of nerve pain and fibromyalgia. I took it three nights. The first morning, I had a little dry mouth. The second morning, dry mouth was worse, and I was feeling a little off. This morning, I woke up with severe dry mouth, shaking, off balance, cognitive function very slow, and I am fatigued. I felt like this once before when I was on gabapentin, which I will never take again. I was on it for 2 years and ended up with seizures. The seizures went away after I stopped gabapentin. I was not going to give Cymbalta any more time to do more damage. I don't think I will get withdrawals since I was only on it 3 days, at least I hope not."

For Chronic Pain "I have been on Cymbalta for 12 days now. I am a 74-year-young female. I have a very bad side effect of nausea that won’t go away. I am bound and determined to continue this, as it already seems to be relaxing some pain. Everyone says to continue through the nausea. Has anyone else had nausea for this long? Hoping it will go away in the two weeks as said."

For Fibromyalgia "I've been on this medication for over a year, and I think it’s doing what it’s supposed to. I’m taking it for fibromyalgia, anxiety, and depression. So far, it’s helped with the pain, but it’s not gone completely. I'm on 90 mg, just recently upped from 60 mg. Probably need something in conjunction with it."

For Depression "I have tried so many anti-depressants, and the day the Dr. suggested Cymbalta, I was excited at the thought of also treating my fibro at the same time. It works AMAZING for me! It's a new life for me. THANK YOU, whoever developed this. I was military, TBI, back injury with surgery and discs replaced with artificial. I get EXTREME migraine headaches and get 31 injections of Botox every 3 months and also take the anti-seizure med Topamax off-label for the headaches. I can only speak for myself, this is a great med if you can get it."

For Depression "Started on a low dose and saw some small improvement at first. The results didn’t last, and we upped the dose from 20 mg to 30 mg. Resulted in frequent diarrhea. I tried changing my diet and using probiotics, but after 5 months I couldn’t take it anymore. I messed myself more than once! I even went to the Dr. to make sure I didn’t have a bacteria or anything. I also got really tired and unmotivated. Once I stopped, I saw improvement in the diarrhea and energy in 2 weeks. A little over a month later, my gut is not completely healed but around 90%."

For Chronic Pain "Cymbalta definitely helps my depression and anxiety. It relaxes me, and I feel stable with my mood. However, the chronic pain it only slightly dulls, I still feel the sharp pain in my lower spine, which has osteoarthritis, and I still feel the uncomfortable pain in my knee from a patella injury. However, when I am not on this drug, the pain is worse. I got off it, then tried gabapentin and had blurry vision with gabapentin, so I got back on Duloxetine. I would say it's more beneficial treating depression than chronic pain. I need more, but the doctor won't write the script. I get it and all with the opioid crisis, but living with sharp, intense pain all the time really sucks. I am a car accident survivor."

For Anxiety "9-3-22 I took my first dose of Cymbalta (Duloxetine) 30 mg. I took the dose @9:30 pm EST. About 2 hrs after I took it, I started feeling tired, so I laid down & went to sleep with no problem. A few hours later (@4 am), I woke up profusely sweating, trembling/shaking & feeling EXTREMELY NAUSEOUS (didn't throw up though). I literally just squirmed around trying to get comfy, waiting for it to pass. Eventually, I was able to fall back asleep. I woke up @10:30 am with a massive headache, foggy head, my heart was beating really fast, my anxiety was through the roof, I felt very anxious/agitated, my skin felt prickly (the best way I can describe it is that I felt like I couldn't stand to be in my own skin. If that makes any sense?). As the day went on (it's now 6:30 pm), most of the symptoms I woke up with have gradually faded. The anxiety and headache have not. Part of me never wants to take it again, but the depressed, anxiety-ridden part of me doesn't want to give up just yet... I'll continue to update."

For Depression "Hated this drug, been on it for 1.5 months. I'm not depressed now only because I don't feel anything and sleep all the time. Side effects? Sweating like a pig, sexual dysfunction, and sleepiness all the time. I can't even drive a car. I'm back to Lexapro..."

For Anxiety "I was having so much anxiety in the last year, and SSRIs were no longer helping. My therapist suggested that I look into an SNRI, and within a day or two of taking Cymbalta, I felt like a new person. I highly recommend this medication, my anxiety has almost disappeared. I had panic about so many things, and now I just feel relaxed and at ease, which is so nice!"

For Depression "I wanted to talk with a kind therapist about having anxiety about childhood sexual assault that had been triggered by current sexual harassment. The intake prescriber told me that I was 'delusional' because 'no man would risk his good job as a garage man saying something offensive to a woman.' She prescribed me Cymbalta and risperidone because she was certain that sexual harassment does not exist. I soon found out what real anxiety was on Cymbalta. I had such horrible nerve pain that I could not walk. I could not drive my truck anymore. I became very agitated and aggressive, and it ruined my social network. I became so weak that three joints dislocated, and I had to walk with a cane. I became incontinent and extremely accident-prone. I could not care for myself or even clean my home. It has taken me five years to get to the point of some recovery. I lost my life savings and my small farm business. The withdrawals landed me in the hospital for six weeks. Avoid taking this drug. It is dangerous."

For Osteoarthritis "I've been taking Cymbalta off and on for a few years. I just recently resumed this medication, and I can tell you this drug works for my osteoarthritis, bursitis, and low back pain. I took (1) 60 mg capsule, and my pain level dropped. I have had no side effects from taking Cymbalta and feel a lot better."

For Chronic Pain "I suffer from chronic neck pain that triggers migraines. Before Cymbalta, I could not look down at my phone, read, do homework, lay down, or stretch my neck without setting off a migraine. I was becoming depressed because of it, I felt like what's the point of living if every day is going to be full of pain and I can't do any activities without headaches? I started off with 20 mg of Cymbalta and will be upping it to 40 mg next week, and OH MY GOD. I felt relief by the second day on it. My mood is better, my headaches are nearly gone, and my neck pain is no more. I have my life back! The only side effect was a horribly upset stomach the first day on it, but other than that, nothing. And now, when I do experience a small headache, I feel more optimistic and better equipped to handle it. I hope this keeps up because it's been many months of trying all kinds of meds for my condition and nothing has helped. I tried Pamelor, tizanidine, propranolol, magnesium, nothing helped until this!"

For Depression "I have been feeling very low because the person I have loved for 27 years has metastasized stage 4 cancer. I have watched him go from an active, social person to someone who sleeps most of the time and is very frail. I was feeling so low (I still am) and decided to try Cymbalta. I took one 30 mg pill at noon, and like many other people who posted here, everything went downhill very fast. I felt fine at first, but by 2:30 pm, the room was spinning. I was very nauseated, and my head felt like cement. I immediately laid down and felt my heart pounding in my chest. I kept doing breathing exercises to keep myself calm, eventually falling into a restless, semi-conscious state until 8 am the following day. There was no way for me to leave the bed. Had there been a fire, I would have literally had to crawl to safety as I was too sick to stand up. The bottom line is that it took the whole next day for me to recover. Unfortunately, I could not continue the Cymbalta."
