I take Trazadone and Zolpidem to make me sleep. I take 100 mg of Trazadone and 10 mg of Zolpidem. I used to take 200 mg of Trazadone but I am tapering of of it. After I take birth this meds, I eat like crazy! I will eat anything! Does anyone know which med could be causing this?
Thanks!!!

Look at the FAQ on Trazodone about weight gain. I believe it is the Trazodone. I run for the carbs.
I have taken both at different times. It's definitely the Ambien. You kind of trip out on it before you really get tired and want to sleep. It makes you want to eat... Yet your legs feel like weilded wood and shadows change shape and thing kind of move around and your voice sounds strange... Yep, then you get really hungry and sometimes want to go on a range with food. Anyway, definitely the Ambien. It's known
Zolpidem absolutely has this side effect. It is usually due to taking it and not going straight to bed. I works differently than most sleep medications. It WILL put you to sleep but only, and I stress this, only if you are in bed, lights out, ready to sleep. Don't take it and then stay up doing things thinking you will wait till you get sleepy to go to bed. It is a hypnotic, which means you will just sort of pass into another realm of awakeness whereby you will do things you don't even remember, such as eat, cook, have conversations, etc. This is right in the directions for this med. Follow them exactly as written.
Thank you so much for everyone's opinions. I immediately stopped taking it after I read all the reviews. I have been sleeping much better than I expected and have already lost a few pounds! I also haven't promised my kid's anything I have no recollection about!

Ambien has always seemed to up my appetite. In years past, I would pretty much binge eat half-asleep while on it. Now I ONLY take it when I'm actually tucked in bed for the night, right before turning off the lights and laying down, etc.
I have found this helps a ton with regard to any unwanted 'sleep' behavior symptoms brought on by Ambien. Best of luck!
Hi, Zolpidem potential side effects include 'appetite disorders', 'binge eating' (as well as 'lack of appetite'), so this could be the cause...
Thank you! I am trying not to take them and I am still binging. I think it might be the Trazadone.
Trazodone don't list your side effects as a possibility, but you know your own body. You really need to talk to your doctor about an alternative rather than just stopping treatment...
I agree! I have no idea what this could be, but it is only after I take the medication.
It's listed here as doing the opposite:

Hopefully the taper is both Dr ordered and supervised, otherwise this hunger could be one of many withdrawal effects. Best to mention this to your dr as well if you haven't already.
Also, "feeling" as though you have to eat everything in sight and actually doing it are tow very different things.
I was reading the reviews and many people said that was a side affect.
It probably was, for them. I'm not disagreeing with you nor am I invalidating your experience.
