Hi, I'm a newbie. I just wanted to share that I've been on Wellbutrin for 1 year. Wellutrin alone does not work well for my depression and it gives me anxiety, plus insomnia. My doctor added Lexapro to take with Wellbutrin and it seemed to even me out but did nothing really for the depression. After trying this combo for about 9 months, I requested a change since it wasn't helping. Now I take Zoloft with Wellbutrin and I feel great!! I think this is my magic bullet!! I am very sensitive to drugs so I only take 50mg of Wellbutrin and 25 mg of Zoloft (both generic). I take them together in the morning and no side effects so far. I have energy, my mood is great, no anxiety, and I can focus at work. So far, so good! It has only been one week with this new combo and it may be too soon to tell how it will help me in the long run, but I wanted to share my experience thus far.
Has anyone else had good success with this combination??

Hello-I had been taking zoloft 100mg for the last year, but I started taking every other day because I couldn't really concentrate. Then I gain about 30 pounds in the last year, making me even more depressed and not caring about what I ate. So I recently went back to the doctor and he Rx'd Wellbutrin XL to take along with zoloft (both generic). I love it, I'm not as hungry, I have more energy and I can think a little better (clearer). The only side effect is I feel this weird feeling in the back of my throat, like its swelling or hard to swallow or breathe.. but I take a drink of water just fine and start to calm down and forget about it and it will subside a little until I start thinking about it again.
Does anyone else have that feeling, or should I let my doctor know?

Yes!!! I never attributed it to the Zoloft but now now that you mention it, that’s about when it started, when I began the Zoloft!

I just started taking 100mg Zoloft and 150mg Wellbutrin few months ago and I feel very good on the combo. I moved back to NY from San Diego and my new psychiatrist at VA is trying to convince me to restart Latuda and get off 2 antidepressants because she says it could swing me into mania but I'm perfectly happy on the combo and refused her advice. If I start feeling manicy, then I think I'll consider adding Latuda, but for now this combo seems to be working well. And I take Ambien for sleep, I love this sleep meds. Best one out there and I've tried them all.

I have tried them all, Buspar did nothing for me. I had the best success by dropping back to 150mg XL Wellbutrin with the 100mg Zoloft. Everyone is different, but you may want to discuss this with your doctor.

Hi. I wanted to make a comment but realized this was posted in 2014. I hope you are still doing well with the combo of Wellbutrin and Zoloft. I had been taking 300mg of Wellbutrin and 10 mg twice a day of buspar. I still have anxiety. My dr just adjusted my meds to 150 Wellbutrin and added 50mg of Zoloft and to wean myself off of the buspar. Today is the 1st day of trying this combo. Wellbutrin doesn't help or creates anxiety for me. Zoloft is supposed to help anxiety and depression. I hope this helps me. As so many, I am trying to find the magic bullet. We have to remember all of us handle drugs differently.

Hi Trudy, just wondering what you were taking the combo for? Also-are you still taking them and did they work for you? I am new to this combo, I really want the anxiety to END, I hate that I still get little thoughts and my heart starts racing for a bit and but it doesn't get to be too overwhelming. . . Hopefully everything worked out for you...

Im new to this and find it fascinating to read what everyone else is going through just like me. I started my journey on Wellbutrin for depression and although it was some relief, my anxiety was horrible. Recently they added Effexor to the Wellbutrin which was horrible. So shaky and worse anxiety. Dropped Effexor and added Propranolol that has a secondary use for anxiety which seems to be working. The depression is getting worse so ive started Zoloft. Which makes Wellbutrin, Zoloft and Propranolol my combo at the minute. BUT i cannot sleep.. Sigh... I feel utterly hopeless.

hi, not familiar with Propranolol, but my daughter has been taking Zoloft 200mg and Intuniv 2mg to sleep, she used to have difficutly falling asleep and horrible nightmares, and this drug works (they use it for PTSD too). She is starting Wellbutrin tomorrow, hopefully it will perk her up! So these 3 drugs interact well together, but you'd have to check with the Prop., good luck!

I know this thread is years old, but I’m so grateful for your comment. I’ve always had depression and anxiety but over the last year it’s gotten a lot worse. (Health problems and my boyfriend of 5 years passed away unexpectedly) I’ve been on Zoloft ever since I can remember for my ocd/intrusive thoughts but feel like in terms of depression/anxiety it didn’t work well. My pcp just added wellbutrin XL 150 & I feel it is working some but not all the way. So we are increasing it.
I’ve also been on propranolol for a few weeks for heart problems/severe pots and tachycardia. I was getting worried about all 3 of those medications being taken together but your comment has made me feel better.
I also cannot sleep due to having Klippel-Feil Syndrome (vertebrae in neck congenitally fused) I was also put on Trazodone but so far haven’t seen much improvement so pcp is going up on the dosage as well.

Just wondering if you're still doing well with the Zoloft and Wellbutrin combination. I could not take the Zoloft for more than a few weeks. I was a zombie and lazy and just wanted to sit around or sleep, although it did if the depression. But then I was depressed because I felt like I was so lazy. Ha. Prozac work for a while, but then I started feeling much more tired. Had the best luck with Cymbalta, although coming off that stuff is a nightmare. I do like the energy affects of the wellbutrin and wondering if it might even out the negative affects of the Zoloft. Either way, like you, the past five years have been go on, come off, go back on... etc. it was always good for a few months or even up to a year until the depression started to come back. Never debilitating, but still bad. I now have finally accepted that I have no choice but to be on antidepressants for life. No big deal as long as they're not major side effects.
That's what I like about well be a trend, although this time around, there's definitely room for improvement. Energy level is good, but not really excited about life. Just kind of living it. Not good when you have four kids and really have a lot to be thankful for. Definitely would probably work alone if I had better workout/exercise habits. That always helps, but I hate to have to rely on that since I have not yet made it a consistent habit. Him while I was still able to drink for the 10 years I was on my return, it definitely has a different effect on me now and totally negates drug. Just wanted to check with you and see what your thoughts were as far as how it's working out for you. If you we are originally tired with the Zoloft alone, but that subsided, I'd love to hear about it.

Hi I am a 26 year old Male who also suffers from anxiety and depression. I've tried many medications in the past and some have worked at times but I always found myself getting off one and trying another..I am now on 150mg Wellbutrin and 25mg sertraline. It's worked but I think 50mg would be better.. how ever I find sexual side effects more profound when I increased for about ten days and I wasn't horney at all.. I got scared because sex is very important to me..on Wellbutrin alone it was fantastic and 25mg is fine also. With anyone's experience male and female, does libido come back eventually after a month or so? I know I couldn't even get my pecker up when I first started Zoloft for few days.any input would will be greatly appreciated..

I was on wellbutrin xl for 3 years and initially I felt like it was working but never was working all the way so I asked my doc to put me on something else so they tried everything. Then sent me to get a head scan and the neurologist there suggested a medication that was a seizure medication but the medical field was having huge success with it being a mood stabilizer & depression med. It's called Topamax. My psychiatrist didn't want to try the medication but I did. I figured why not. We tried everything else. Then by chance I was talking to another mom about the medication and she said she was on the medication and having a huge success with it so I asked the neurologist to put me on it and she put me on 5 mg and surprisingly it really helped!!! I switched psychiatrist's and today I am on the Topamax paired with the Wellbutrin XL and it worked great. There was a problem getting started on the Topamax though.
Initially it made me feel a little foggy for the 1st 2 weeks but I have been on it for a year now and I never felt better. I haver lost 50lbs. I go to the gym. It made me lose my craving for all sugar. I take it at night about an hour b4 I go to sleep and I fall right asleep and wake up extremely refreshed. Something I learned about taking meds is that is that there r side affects and you have to watch for these side affects and learn to deal with them. Don't give up. If a med makes u feel funny right away it could take a week or two to adjust in ur system. Just bc it does not work right away does not mean it will never work. U r introducing something new to ur body. U might have to lower or higher the dose but hang in there. Also go w ur gut instinct some doctors make money off the drugs they push so if u don't have a good working relationship with ur psychiatrist, find a new one. Make sure they r listening to you. Get opinions. Reading these blogs and educating urself is the best thing u can do. Also don't listen to commercials or name brand drugs there r other drugs out there. Do ur research. Love urself. U deserve it!!!

I have been on zoloft (sertraline) twice after dropping into depression with anxiety and insomnia due to changes in life circumstances, almost like PTSD with continuing stressors.
I am starting wellbutrin today as I complained to my doctor of feeling apthetic and unambitious.
My doc also said she felt I was competent and experienced enough with zoloft having tapered off of it a few times to try tapering down my dose of that slowly.
I asked her if increasing zoloft dosage wpuld help or just make me more comfortable with my apathy and she said that was actually a possibility, and that she thought my seratonin was at a good level because I was not depressed or anxious, but that maybe my dopamine and norepinephrine levels were crashing and wellbutrin could give that a boost.
Everything she said made a lot of sense. Two different medications treating three different chemicals in the brain.
Also I have restress legs, which Zoloft took care of In month 1, but after being on it for 12 months I am on gabapentin and unisom (doxylamine succinate) just so I can sleep.
I do worry that wellbutrin will further disrupt my ability to sleep, but we will see. It seems like with just the zoloft alone I just want to lie in bed and do nothing.
She also recommended becaise I live in the northern hemisphere abd it is winterrible taking a high dosage supplement of vitamin d3, and asked me to come in to have my thyroid and testosterone levels checked up on as both being low is pretty normal in my family history.
I am just hoping to get back some of the drive and enthusiasm in my life, being paralyzed by worries, or disengaged by apathy are two extremes that don't work well for me. Trying to find my balance too, hopefully this works out.

That is fantastic, that you have found a combo that works for you. Since this was a couple of years ago, is it still working? I will have to bring this up to my doctor and see what he says, Wellbutrin doesn't seem to be working very well for me. Thanks again for the input.

Hi guys, I was taking Effexor for years, and it worked great for me, but it caused my BP to be elevated. So, I switched to Wellbutrin 150XL, then Wellbutrin 300XL with 40mg Buspar. This is not working for me, anxiety and depression are back, and I get agitated very easily, not good.
I just found this thread after my pdoc added 50mg Zoloft to the Wellbutrin 300XL. If I still have anxiety, we will drop the Wellbutrin back down to 150XL. I have heard good things about this combo. Will post again after I have given this a fair chance.

Wellbutrin had kept my anxiety gone for about nine months. The other day my doctor bumped me up 300 mg from 150 and I thought I had gone crazy in my head LOL. I had a bottle of 25 mg Zoloft and popped one of those with my 150 Wellbutrin and voilà !!! I was on Zoloft alone and it does take my anxiety away but it makes me a zombie. But with the wellbutrin I'm getting a good balance. I hope I have discovered something good here. But it sounds like you have too.

Is this still working out for you? I was on 150 of wellbutrin for 10 years before it seem to stop working. Apparently that was because the generic brand they started making much useless. So now I am back on it after trying Prozac, Cymbalta, and Zoloft. It does not totally eliminate the depression now so I'm wondering if some Zoloft would help. I felt like a zombie when I was on Zoloft alone. Since the Welbutrin seems to provide more energy, wondering if that will even out or if the Zoloft effects disappear after a while anyway.

I'm thrilled to hear of your relief! I've been on Zoloft for 18 years. It's helped tremdously with my panic disorder. The lack of motivation and fatigue from Zoloft can be debilitating. I took a year off and my energy and drive came back... So did my panic! I'm back on Zoloft and my Dr. just prescribed 150xl. Wellbutrin. I don't like the idea of more medication, but I don't want to feel like a zombie. I've been on it 2 days, feel jittery. How long before anyone felt the positive results and how long did any side effects last? Thanks in advance!!!

How are things working out for you? I had to go off the Zoloft about three weeks in because I was so lazy and just wanted to sleep or sit around. I went back on the well Butrans, which was like a miracle in 2001 for 10 years until it stopped working. Apparently it had only stopped working because the generic brand they started making was useless. So I am back on it and while it has helped, I think I may need something else to completely avoid feeling low. Did the tiredness from the Zoloft ever go away? Wondering if combined with the Wellview trend and it's higher energy affects whether it would even out.

I have been on so many meds for 3 years. No help with depression and anxiety. Not sure what to do anymore. Dr suggested lithium, but I am not bipolar. I am not able to function at all. Not sure anymore what to do. 3 years is long enough to find a med combo. At the end of my rope

Reading everyone's comments is helpful, and definitely makes me feel less alone. I take 30MG of Wellbutrin and Buspar. I am not suffering from depression, just anxiety and small panic attacks that are ruining relationships in my life. Would adding Zoloft help with the anxiety? From reading everyone else's comments I would think the Wellbutrin and Buspar would be enough. We tried weaning me down to 15MG of Wellbutrin but that made the anxiety much worse immediately. Any recommendations would be most welcome. Thanks!

Update. My brain fog and fatigue never went away from the Zoloft and the Wellbutrin didn’t counteract that at all. I took my Dr’s advice and switched to Effexor. Besides the side effects Zoloft helped with my panic disorder. I was scared to try something new. Great news. Panic is gone and I no longer have brain fog or fatigue. I have my life back! Wishing everyone the best.
You have to eat with the Wellbutrin or it will cause shakiness. Zoloft & Wellbutrin has been a great combo for me, helps my depression & energy levels tremendously... I feel like I am enjoying day to day life again!

Hi I just wondered what where the amounts of Zoloft and Wellbutrin you take please? I'm currently on sertraline 100mg for two weeks and bupropion 150mg for 4 days considering lowering my sertraline to 75 as feel a bit numb and spacey, any other recommendations for these two dosages please share. Iv been on a rollercoaster of a ride with little highs over the last 13years I was on sertraline for 9years but it pooped out after a while, Iv been on nearly all the other ssri snris twise round so hoping the bupropion add on might help, depression and social anxiety are my main problems thanks guys xx
