You are correct. Your body has to get used to it. You also won't get the desired effect for about the first month. It can make your anxiety worse before it gets better. Taking something like xanax during this time can help.
It just sucks ya know because I'm trying to deal with my anxiety but with all this is makes it a bit worse like I just went into an attack felt like I couldn't breathe but I got out of it within minutes it was bad but its different not like the others before..This is the day after I took my first dose last night so I feel a bit weird like in my body but just different but I'm told a lot of people experience this I just have to get use to it I guess this is how it feels to be normal
Good advice.
I took Zoloft for 10 years many years ago and did fine BUT i took it in the mornings and used small doses of Xanax with it for awhile until I didnt need that anymore. Still had problems with palpitations and had to add Atenolol to the med regimen which helped alot. Anxiety disorder SUCKS but it can be controlled - sometimes it takes a combo of meds to do it effectively so dont give up! keep talking with your doc til you get it right. You WILL get better - I promise!!
Thank you so much really it helps to know people have same issues as me it helps to relate so I don't feel like I'm the only one and like I developed a food anxiety not too long ago where I feel like I'm choking but I'm not or I think my food won't go down all the way and I just ate and it wasn't as bad as normal but I have lost of appetite due to the medicine since I just started last night
Hhe food anxiety is very common also, especially stringy foods like melted cheddar cheese. Stay away from foods that cause you swallowing distress until you feel better on the Zoloft. Try taking smaller bites and chew slower and longer than normal before you swallow. Also Try chasing each swallow with a small drink of water. There's nothing wrong with you physically, your anxiety is just making your throat muscles constrict more. A med like Xanax or Ativan would help relax that. :)
Wow thats great that you know about that again most people around me when I tell them they think I'm insane lol but I just tell them this is how it is for me unfortunately anyone get the bad shakes I get them in my legs :/ but only sometimes and I've been in bed all day scared because every time I get up my heart races like crazy if I'm up and doing things so when I finally was getting up and doing this my leg feels so jello and shaky like even know my legs are just a shaking they stop then they'll do it again but its hard to say if its the drug or the anxiety still happening
Its the anxiety. You are just anxious about starting the Zoloft and its possible side-effects. thats very common for us when starting new meds. Thats why you also need a Benzo to help all that. Try to focus on something else like a tv show or take a brisk walk if you can and do some deep breathing and hold every other breath for at least 10 secs. You're making yourself worse by obsessing. Believe me, Ive been through it a hundred times but you can help yourself with positive self talk until the meds start working better. Get mad and fight it. refuse to let the anxiety win.
Here - think of me instead of you for awhile. Im getting ready to drive 4 hours tomoro to go with friends to see Fleetwood Mac in concert. I hate crowds and we're gonna be on the floor 17 rows back from the stage. Its in a big city that I dont know my way around and Ive never been to this arena before. Im already nervous as hell but Im not gonna let my anxiety ruin it. I'll have my meds and I'll make it through just fine. I may shake like an earthquake the whole freakin nite but hopefully everyone will just think Im dancing... :) i can do this!
You've been such a big help I'm going to Orlando today its 2 hours away I'm scared because I don't know how I'll feel since I get BAD anxiety to driving I have BAD anxiety to EVERYTHING it seems like but we will see I got up today same time 12-5am thats all I slept and I woke up between then but again just body getting use to it I guess I yawn a lot too
Hi there anxiety friend - am just checking on you - how you doing?
Oh doing better so had to go to the ER not good but they did an evaluation on me I def have a severe case I anxiety but they said to stop taking zoloft because it was making it so much worse they gave me a pill that I only take when I have an attack that's working a lot better the first day off of Zoloft I was throwing up still but my today I wasn't too bad my doctor agreed with the ER they all think the best thing for me is to talk to a therapist only problem in this small town the next time I can get an appointment is June 21st but ill get through it I'm not going to let this anxiety win anymore I'm over it!
I too am getting ready to start taking zoloft at a very low dose. I just stopped taking prozac because of the side effects. I'm not looking forward to going through the side effect waiting period again, but I really want to find something that helps.
I also get very anxious about many things and I don't usually know the cause.
I will be looking forward to an update from you to see if the side effects lesson and you get some relief. I believe it can take up to 4 to 6 weeks for the med to reach full strength. For some maybe less time.
Wishing you the best!
JJ
Yes I heard people having great responses to the drug next day but for me next day I was just worried because I worry a lot about when the next time I'll get an attack and how bad it'll be so forth just how it is for me I've tried stopping the feeling nothing works so I decided to finally get help and I started Zoloft literally last night today I think I had a little anxeity attack I felt like I couldn't breathe for a second and that "flight or freeze" thing came over me and I just told myself stop you are ok breathe in through your nose out through mouth and it worked! But I'm still worrying about everything I just freak out with any new thing thats going into my body I don't even take medication for headaches if that tells you anything
I certainly understand how you feel. I feel the same way. I have always just taken halves of tylenol for headaches and still ended up needing to sleep. I don't even do that now. I don't like medications and they usually don't react well in my body which causes more anxiety. I'm extremely drug sensitive.
My doctor prescribed Zoloft at a low dose for two weeks then increased it to 50mg. I get that racing heart, headaches and unable to sleep peacefully. It’s gonna be 3.5 weeks I’ve been on 50mg daily. Which makes it a total of 5.5 weeks I’ve been on this drug. I can’t say I’m happy with medication. I’ve been to the ER twice and they say nothing is wrong with me. So I guess I need to get all the negative energy out of my life. I got rid of my daughters puppy bc he barks a lot and was hard to train, he increased my anxiety. It’s was sad but it helped. Being able to get some sound sleep has been a challenge for me thou. I’ve been taking melatonin that helps but i get startled easy and of course my heart can’t seem to get back to normal for a few days. I wish my body can just get used to this medication already.
Same problem here. I was advised to take it in the morning.
Really but I hate the heart racing problem makes me insane thats why I had bad anxiety attacks because I would freak out even more due to my heart racing lol you think it wouldn't give to you but hey guess my body has to get use to it
