I was recently prescribed Lexapro 10mg for my panic/agoraphobia and Xanax 0.25mg to help with the anxiety while first starting the Lexapro.
My question is, does Xanax 0.25mg have any noticable side effects besides relaxing you? My doctor told me since its such a small dose it probably wont be noticable, but now I'm over thinking and I am nervous to take either one. I would probably take the Xanax with the Lexapro in the beginning so I wont freak out while starting the Lexapro, but now my anxious mind is taking over and I wouldnt want the Xanax to add any more unwanted side effects along with the possible side effects of the Lexapro. So now I'm nervous to take them although I need to so I can tackle my anxiety and move on with my life.
Anyone have advice or even some comforting words of wisdom/experience?
Thanks

Hi, kvnniv!
These links may be helpful... but I want to warn you that the side effects listed are only POTENTIAL side effects which actually affect very few people.

Lots of reading material but you should familiarize yourself with both medications and then you can decide for yourself. Personally, I've never used any benzodiazepine but I took Lexapro for over 7 years with great success!

Hi, Go1000!

I have been taking Lexapro 5 mg. for about 2 1/2 weeks. I have the horrible burning sensation, shakey, trembling, nervousness, anxiety, loss of appetite, dry mouth, insomnia, etc. I saw my Psyc. this week because I couldn’t stand it anymore. I have to give Lexapro 5 mg. a good shot because I am so sensitive to meds I don’t have many options left to try. I was on name brand Lexapro 5 mg. for about 13 years..I had to switch to generic because of insurance. The generic didn’t work for me and thought I didn’t need it and came off myself... wrong. It threw my body into a tailspin so had to get back on the name brand Lexapro$$$. I have been on it 2 1/2 weeks fighting the horrible side effects. I had days that I thought I was getting better... like the night before last I slept pretty much like a baby and the next day. I did take Tylenol that afternoon that seems to take edge off.
But I took Tylenol again yesterday afternoon while I was still having a decent day and had a horrible night last night. I took my normal Lexapro last night with the 2 extra strength Tylenol that I have been taking every night since 1986. The night last night was horrible. Long story behind the Tylenol ..and then I couldn’t go to sleep. The side effects were worse and awake it seems all night. I never know how the Lexapro will work. So I went to Psyc. a few days ago and he prescribed Xanax 25 mg. I can take up to 2 a day if needed. I have been scared to take it because I am VERY sensitive to meds
I tried to get off of 10mg Lexapro after feeling that I didn't need it but once I got down to 5mg I had anxiety, headaches, vertigo, tiredness, and bad sleep so I went back up to 10mg about two weeks ago. I had been on it for probably 10 years. Still tired, blurry vision and waking up at 3-4Am but little anxiety. Looking forward to how I felt before I tried to get off.

kvnniv; Yes you are letting the anxiety get the best of you. Stop that and start the Lexapro first and if the anxiety increases then take a Xanax too. There are no Interactions between them and the Xanax is going to help with the problem Lexapro has like many others is increase the symptoms of anxiety and panic or depression for 5 to 15 days Just make sure you take the Lexapro around the same time each day. and use the Xanax as directed on your bottle. Also, this is a very common combination for our problems you are not alone. please feel free to come back and ask anything you need we are just a group of people like you that share our experience
I'm similar. I had been on Lexapro since 2003. About 3-5 months ago I weaned off of it. Trying to take it again has been miserable! Horrible anxiety attacks. Do you know why it's important to take the Lexapro at the same time every day? Because I start having bad effects after about 4 hrs of taking the Lexapro.
I would advise you take lexapro every day at the same time if that's a path you want to take.
Alprazolam, when taken 'as needed' shouldn't present any undesirable side effects, only desirable ones. Which is why if you take it as needed instead of scheduled it won't have the opposite effect eventually.
Thanks. I was planning on probably taking the Xanax for the first week on Lexapro just to help ease any anxiety that I would have while dealing with the side effects (if any) of the Lexapro.
As the doctor said, you'll probably not notice any side effects from the Xanax except maybe making you tired. It will help with some of the side effects when you first start Lexapro. It isn't unusual to experience heightened anxiety when first starting Lexapro. The Xanax will help with that. It is great that the doctor prescribed both. Trust the doctor and know the side effects usually subside in the first couple of weeks and it may take several weeks for the Lexapro to work.
