My dad let me try Lyrica (Pregabalin) one day when I was panicking, and it worked wonders. Panic attacks have been ruining my life. I'm 19 and the only thing I can think about is my own mortality. I was prescribed Xanax, and after that, I never, EVER want to take another benzo. I am afraid to ask a doctor for Lyrica because it's not approved, I think, and I don't want to seem like a druggie.
Will a doctor in the United States prescribe Lyrica for anxiety/panic attacks?

In the United States definantly im from texas and they give that medication out here for free pratically. My doctor gives me my pain meds. and like a years supply in samples of lyrica.
Unfortunately no. Alot of people dont know this, but the FDA was really really close to allowing pregabalin to be used as an anti-anxiety and antidepressant medication, but in the end didnt. Im not proud to say this, but ive used lyrica as a recreational drug, and i can definitely see why it was considered for use as an antidepressant and anti-anxiety aid. I honestly wish it WAS used for depression, cause i KNOW it could help some people though. Its usually only prescribed in the US for fibro and other nerve-pain issues
Found on first page of googles search. Doesn't sound safe to me

vaela, Lyrica sure makes a person drowsy! I had bad side effects from it, so I stopped taking it for nerve-pain. I would think that a doctor would prescribe it if you explained that it worked for your panic attacks. Although, I do not think it is indicated for that purpose.
Have you heard of Klonopin (sp?)? Perhaps that might work for you.
Just a thought.

I started Lyrica for chronic pain and fms. It worked so well for my anxiety that I no longer needed xanax. Additionally it stabilized my mood disorder. It did not help with insomnia. Drs are becoming more aware of the things Lyrica can help with and so just talk to your doctor and see where their mind is. My husband's Dr refused to prescribe it for him, yet gives him xanax... go figure!! Lyrica can cause weight gain, but it can be controlled. I have been on 150mg 3x a day since 2007. I have not had depression on it, it has helped with that as well. There was about 2wks of adjusting to it, but after that it has not made me drowsy. I wish you the best of luck!
