I am about sick of having to alternate between vicoden and oxycodone everyday.I only like to take the vicoden most of the time because they are much stronger to me than oxy for some ODD reason please don't ask me why but I can't take more than 8 of them a day and after about 4 vicoden.I don't like to take anymore because they start to give me headaches and hurt my stomach.I have been taking oxycodone for about a week now and still don't feel hardly any pain relief yet.So I have to resort back to the last 90 day supply of vicoden I have.I would like to have something that doesn't give you 300 side effects. Please any suggestions wold help.
Why is my pain medication not working??Hydrocodone(BREAKTHROUGH)Oxycodone(12 hour relief)?

My son 17 had an accident on ATV and broke his back in 2 places and shattered his sacrum! He had emergency surgery and doctor prescribed him oxy. Only 15mg which does NOT work on his pain. I have hydro/Lortab which helps his pain a lot better but have ran out and also I worry about addiction. According to his doctor addition can very easily happen so if I were you I would try some other way to relieve your pain. There ARE other options like water therapy, a good chiropractor, certain exercises among other things but you need to discuss these things with your doctor. My son has an appointment with his surgeon tomorrow so it’s time to ask about water therapy since we have a pool it will be very helpful but he has to STAY in a wheelchair for 3 months for his sacrum to heal. There isn’t any surgery for it since it shattered. Thank God his spinal cord stayed intact!!
Check the manufacturer I just got a refill and the manufacturer is Lupin. I got it from CVS and they are not doing anything. I found many complaints online about Lupin medications other than Hydrocodone also not doing anything.
Percocet no longer effective
Tramadol 50mg. 5 times a day does nothing for my pain at all. Hydrocodone worked but I guess I can't get it anymore. It really doesn't pay to even use it. I have told my Dr. It doesn't work, but he won't try anything else. Its useless to even take them.
I take tramadol for the headaches and that seems to help a lot and I have been well am on the same pain medication. I would take medication for migraine headaches like Imitrex but I am allergic to tripan medications they give me really bad pain and than I suffer from panic attacks so that is why I take tramadol . I was also prescribed tagretol and topamax for migraine headaches but I don't remember witch one but one made me drunk feeling I told everyone and everything that I love them or it and the other didn't work. So when I was in the hospital at some point for my stomach I also had a migraine headache when I was there they gave me the tramadol I was shocked it worked and I have been using for that ever since.
Ive been on pain meds for 20 yrs, you will b uild tolerance to vic, norco an percocette, if u have been on those for more than five yrs you will need OxyContin its a long acting med unlike hydrocodone family when I only took OxyContin i had pain still and a dull ache like im in withdrawal so i was increased on OxyContin and added oxycodone/+roxicodone, try that the roxi is fast acting for pain. im on 3 60 mg ox\ycottin an 30 mg 6 a day ihope that helps
I too kristine have been in so much pain n the pain is getting worse. I am so upset thinking this is what I have to look foward to. Would live any advice on norco, zanaflex, n lyrica for the last two months just started th lyric.. It helps with the burning prickly pain in arms n legs. But all the rest of pains are bad. I do trigger piont injections also. Steriod injection. Any advice
Since you are not getting any relief from the Oxycodone, I would call your doctor & tell them this. They may want you to try something else or go back to Vicodine. They could prescribe Omeprazole for your tummy or something like it. Hope you get this under control real soon. I feel your pain.
Thanks mary your so helpful and nice to me.:)
ALSO IF YOUR BODY IS USE TO TAKING VICODEN AN U HAVE TO TAKE MORE AND MORE TO FEEL IT IT WILL NOT WORK UNLESS TAPER DOWN AN NO ITS NOT FUN BUT CAN BE DONE , then ive noticed with hydrocodone sugar helps meds work better an for other meds other things help meds work better , I wish you well as i know hydrocodone isnt for constant pain or long term treatment as for a med w out hydrocodone due to liver damage or kidneys after prolonged time
People can develop a tolerance to oxycodone quickly. You may have to have him/her increase your oxycodone mgs to 10 or 15mg q4hrs. Also for the added relief since you get it from the vicodin, most likely because of the tylenol in it because oxycodone alone in lower mgs is stronger than vicodin in a higher dose, when you take an oxycodone, or roxicet (oxycodone without tylenol),take an extra strength Tylenol OTC (1000mg) twice a day Q12hrs. Sometimes adding an anti-inflammatory such as Aleve or Ibuprofen OTC if your allowed and also if your stomach can tolerate it since you already have stomach ache issues will help your pain. You can take Tylenol and an anti-inflammatory together because they are two different types of pain medication, which I have done. I have severe RA so I struggle with chronic pain as well and being on pain meds everyday causes tolerance to it, especially the prescription pain meds.
So adding an OTC pain med will help to decrease the amount of prescription pain meds needed and therefore help to decrease the amount of time to develop a tolerence to the prescription pain meds.
Hey aracnoidcyst,
I hear your frustration and can only recommend you talk to your doctor and let him know the oxycodone isn't working. You may benefit from a different type opiate such as Avinza or Diluadid or even Opana. Don't know that your doctor will go for this but you can ask.
You are taking 8 oxycodone in one day? Isn't that a little more than the prescribed amount especially if they are the extended release formula? Do be careful that you aren't over doing it in your attempt to get relief. I know that chronic pain is no fun at all but taking more than the prescribed amount is going to lead you down a rocky road indeed.
The stomach ache is a common side effect of the oxycodone. Does it help to take with some food? You may need to back off the dosage a little and the stomach ache would subside.
I just want the best for ya,
Laurie
No No Laurie!!I said that I can't take more than 8 vicoden a day because I would be exceeding the 4,000mg limit of tylenol. Not that I did.I never take more than 4 vicoden a day and no more than 2 oxycodone a day. Please don't get the 2 mixed up.
O and also I am on 5mg tablets of oxycodone. So it is not the extended release.
OK, sorry I misunderstood you. Since you are taking a low dose of oxycodone you might be able to get the doctor to up the milligrams. You will still have the problem of a stomach ache, does taking it with food help? Maybe the doctor could prescribe something for the nausea like Phenergan (promethazine) or Zofran.
Sorry again for not understanding you earlier.
Laurie
Srry I should have told you laurie. It is only the vicoden that makes my stomach hurt. The oxycodone I take does not have tylenol in it.I told my doctor that I couldn't take tylenol because me and him both thought that's what was making my stomach hurt.
The problem I am having now is that I am still taking the vicoden alot because for some weird reason it feels stronger than the oxycodone to me and I guess i am trying to get the same effects from the oxycodone as the vicoden but it isn't working.
What I am trying to say is that even though the oxy is stronger it doesn't feel the same as vicoden did.
What strength vicodin (hydrocodone) do you have, 5, 7.5 or 10 mg?
Laurie I'll answer your question for him, its 7.5. It was in his last post from yesterday.
oh, ok
why do I get the feeling I'm not helping here, think I'll chalk this one up to a failed attempt
Laurie I was on the vicoden 7.5mg for over 6 months.I have very serious chronic pain and I know these post sound very addict junky like but seriously.I am only trying to find out what works best for me.So if you don't want to help that's fine.;\
I would love to help. I thought I made some good suggestions such as upping the oxycodone dosage or switching to a longer acting med like Avinza or taking the opiate with food to help with the stomach problem, but I don't know that they were that helpful as you gave me a thumbs down. My hunch as to why you respond better to the vicodin is because it has the added analgesic, but you and the doctor seem to think that is the issue so I hesitated saying it.
Anyway, I do wish you the very best and want to help you anyway I can. Just thought that I had failed you and that is not what I wanted to do.

if you are getting headaches ask about migraine medication fioricet with codien its the only med that has helped me out of 20 yrs of head aches from pain meds. also i always get sick if took the amount of norco or vicodin needed to help and with oxy an roxicette i may have a lil nausea sometimes but nothing compared to pukinbg up pain meds and head ACHES FRO HYDROCODONE
i inow i posted other comments but Ive been on oxy for long time please stress to your dr that the strength needs to be increased and ask for A SHORT ACTING PAIN MED to take alternately, however i took both at same timer for long time an always messed up my doeses an endedup in er month after month until i took oxy 60 mg three times and alternated the roxicett #30 mg between other med does taking a total of 6 does 3 of each but never at same time the medication wors better and sometimes i would have extra instead of running out which is miserable i struggled for 7 yrs with messing uip on meds because id get use to it, so trust me this works also if u srtill get migraines as for fioricet w codiene apap capsuel most u can take is two daily
hi, ive had an odd thing happen with taking pain medication as well. im disabled and have been taking norco 10mg, four a day, for a couple of years for severe back pain after breaking my back and herniating 3 discs in a car accident and having a spinal fusion done and I cannot find a doctor that will up my dosage or prescribe anything stronger. seems to be a problem in this area and honestly, im lucky to be getting what I get as doctors dont seem to believe in treating pain with pain medication in my area of this state even after every other treatment/medication has been tried unsuccessfully to manage my pain. they treat you like a criminal and you pretty much have to be crying in the office, as I legitimately am in tears half of my visits... truely a horrible existence my friend... back story aside, I have developed the usual tolerance as well and regularly have to double my dosage to two 10mg pills to get enough relief on bad days, which causes me to run out early, of course.
the strange thing that has happened now is that I took 2 and it did nothing. I felt nothing with no relief. so I desperately took an additional 2 with the same lack of effect! cannot feel it at all! what has happened!? im scared and not stupid enough to keep taking more and more. could part of my medicine be "duds"?? theres no way 40mg hydrocodone had no effect given my current tolerance
