I need help too! My itch started a couple of months ago and I can't control it I start scratching untill I can't take it any more. I can't sleep because it hurst and I'm just 18. Last night around 3am I wet a big towel and cover my whole body it it and the itch stop and I knock out. But now I'm here writing because I need help its like the itch won't stop. I been thinking that it starts to itch when its hot idk. But please help. It's been a year that you posted this maybe you found a resolution .
Hi vivi, I'm so sorry to hear about your scratching at night. When I'm having this problem, I found a product, recommended by my dermatologist, and it really has helped me. The product is called "Original Sarna" It's an anti-Itch lotion, and it is an over the counter, no prescription needed. I found this lotion very helpful. I purchased my "Orginal Sarnar" at my local CVS pharmacy, but I'm sure any well stocked pharmacy will have this product on their selves. Of course, this is only a temporary solution, and I would suggest a visit to your personal dermatologist to rule other more systemic problems to your scratching problems. I hope this helps you. C Kent
Sarna was the first thing I tried. I itch ALL over, and it did not help even a tiny bit. It is driving me nuts.
Anyone else know an OTC solution?
Have you started using any new medication lately? Also, mine started when I began using a new laundry detergent, stopped after I changed back to the old one. Trazadone made me itch as well as sweat a great deal. Hope this helps. Pam
I need help, I am a 20 year old and my whole body itches, I tried a wet towel but it only helps a bit, I've been itching for 3 months now, I am too much into sugar food.
Even a doctor would not be able to pinpoint your problem without extensive tests. Sounds to me as if you are having an allergic reaction to something, either the laundry soap somebody is using to do your clothes, or a cat or some animal, or something that you ate. Try taking a Benadryl or two.
I've been itching over my whole body for almost a year now. It started when a new doctor gave me a medication with a "cousin" of sulfa in it. I am highly allergic to sulfa. I quit taking the drug but the itching still continues. That was 8 months ago. Shouldn't it have stopped by now? We gave no animals in the house, the laundry soap is the same we have used for many years. There is no redness, no bumps, no bites, skin is a normal color. Scratching brings no relief but I can't stop scratching, even in my sleep I scratch until I bleed. I use Benadryl to help me get to sleep but it sometimes takes 2 doses (4 hours apart) before I can stop itching enough to sleep. Once I am awake again, the itching starts again. Movement seems to make it worse. We even bought a new mattress thinking the old one was infected somehow. My NEW doctor says they do not like people, especially my age group - 70+ - to use Benadryl. She is going to do a skin biopsy next week. Could this be the start if some kind of skin cancer?
My itch isn't whole body but just a few areas - side of right leg. left upper arm, right shoulder, etc. and it always happens at night and scratching does no good, which leads me to believe it's not something topical but deep down - a nerve I suppose. But cold does. I keep a tall thin glass bottle (I think olives came in it) filled with water and capped tightly in the freezer. When I feel the itch coming on I take it out and roll it over the itchy area. The itch goes away within 30 seconds and doesn't come back... well, until the next night or so.
I heard Aquaphore works good but I haven't tried it yet Walmart has it
Hi Peter,
I am new to this site to and have the same problem as you. I am asking the same question, is there anybody who knows a cure or medication for this intense itchiness. The only relief I get is taking Cetirizina Mylan 10mg but I have heard this can cause Altziemers so am reluctant to take it for any longer. I have been taking it for nearly a year. I hope we can get some advice on this soon. Elli 1
I had this intense crazy itching all over it was like stinging sensation , I went to over ten doctor looking for the cause, they had no answers I got seriously ill about three years later we had hidden black mold in out house so I know for that was the cause we moved. But still had this insane itchy thing. I I read an article on vitamin C and started taking high doses of vitamin C and that stopped the itching in it's tracks!! I was so happy . Then I was sick so I took antibiotics then I had fungal overgrowth I also took diflucan and that stopped all the itching, then it came back I stopped all sugar, dairy, wheat and I stopped all nuts I finally began to realize it was candida overgrowth I did a parasite cleanse to be on safe side, and I started taking, allimax . I got on a gluten free dairy free sugar and meat free diet. It was pretty easy since I was already a vegetarian
i have like the same prob.i can not take it as well as you i am 32 years old and i have been going through this like one month then it stop i can not understand then last night i saw like rash bumps thing behind my ears what the hell i going on and my penis do itch as well so i will go to the doc and find out so if you want to talk any one out there please i am here to and i have bumps on my lower chin as well omg why me
If you are seeing bumps in those areas, you may want to check your bed for bedbugs.
This happened to my teenage daughter. We had her tested for allergies. Nothing other than dust mites. We thought it was something she would have to live with. Then my younger daughter got it about 2 months later. Then my husband and I got it. We went to the dermatologist and she suspected scabies. Don't know where we picked it all up but it does spread among family members. We are currently on the medication, but they say it can be a month before all the itching goes away. Itching was bad all the time but mostly at night. My daughters have it mostly on their hands and legs. I had it on legs and around the belt line.
Hello my dear I do have same problem with my arms nd my legs I cnt take it any more were u able to get s drug for it
The same problem started 2 days ago. Last night it was unbearable. As soon as I settled one area then it moved to another area. I googled and found a temporary solution! Apple cider vinegar. I mixed a solution with water and soaked a face cloth in it. I then wiped my whole body with the moist face cloth. VOILA! the itchiness subsided and I was able to relax and sleep. I showered the next morning as usual. Now it is 6 PM and I can feel the itchiness starting again on my shoulders, so I will resort to the same procedure. I will see my PCP tomorrow, but atleast I have a solution for now. I hope this helps you.
Me and my younger siblings have the same problems but they started itching first and then it was me and my parents. Then sister they got the rash first and their skin dryed up alot and I didn't get that bad.we found out what it was before it got worse the doctor said it was something called scabies

I am 85 retired and have not submitted to my serious itching problem.Having no commitment during day so I sleep lot during day and at night keep my mind busy with some TV programmes or Netflix movies. I live happily counting years to go.I also know itching will come with me because America has been defeated by apparently looking a minor problem or America is not serious for the solution.I scanned everywhere in computer and iinlibrary and experience of many.
Try soaking in an Oatmeal bath. Warm water and about a cup of oatmeal. Seems odd, but very effective. Hope it helps.
I am setting in oatmeal. Right now. And I want to scratch. Can it be pain meds. I have had this going on now for 3 days. I had to increase my Percocet because of a fibromyalgia flare. The doctor put me on muscle relaxers, and oxycodone. I took liquid Benadryl. You think I'd be knocked out my brain and eyes are so sleepy but my body feels jumpy, like ants crawling all over me, and itching every where. Help
Stop taking pain meds THEY CAUSE ITCHING!! You'll itch until you tear your skin
Stop taking pain meds THEY CAUSE ITCHING!! You'll itch until you tear your skin
I know it's the pain meds but I can't do without them or I really wouldn't sleep. I am now taking two Benadryl along with the pain meds and sleeping like a baby itching is gone. I think I just needed to get used to the oxycodone . Thank you for all your advice everyone I am doing good now
You might find it interesting to know that intense itching pruritus is quite a rare fibromyalgia symptom if you do some research on fibromyalgia you will find this out to be true.
Antihistamines do work but there are different types. I have a prescription 20 MG CETIRIZINE. It really helps me. I take one as soon as the itching starts when going to bed, it takes about 30 mins. to react. It also helps me to fall asleep. Other antihistamines don't work well for me. Good luck... Epson salts bath may help too... but for sure CETIRIZINE 20mg stops the itching. ..xo
try to use this medicine( acyclovir 800 mg tablet )
by DR preconception
Only thing that seems to work is Benadryl cream applied after you shower. The meds has an side effect, which is itching, so don't stay or even get on them. I have a itching problem bc of my diabetes. I use Benadryl tablets at night, and the cream in the mornings. It helps, but there has to be a better solution. Anyone?
Seems it should be effective. I am using Lidocaine spray o.5% and does give some relief.
Food habit has great to do with itching.Must reduce salt, sugar and any spice.Fresh air also give relief for which I go to sea shore and itching stops! Also engage mind for some interesting activity like TV programme or gardening or some household work.Keep your mind diverted.

May be "Acyclovir" can work because itching for sure is a neurotic problem. The proof I use spray Lidocain 0.5 % and it helps to some extent but more effective I have found the spray of "Cooling burn relief spray" containing Benzocain 20%... though relief not for long but at least to make me sleep. I years ago.shall certainly try Acyclovir" after seeing neurologist, whose appointment is pending.I believe at least in my case is the long time racdual effect of Shingals (Herpese I had some four years ago.In such case Acylovir is certainly logical remedy.
Aspirin and vitamin C has helped me.They are harmless with no reactions. One should try.@250 mg vitamin C twice with food in morning and evening. Daily dose of 81 mg in the evening.
For sleep I am using brahmi (Indian herb) boiled in milk.
i am so sorry to heard you going thur that i don't have answer but i can say i have the same problem with meds i am a 60 year old misable woman who has rheumatoid arthrist stay in pain all the time i have tried so many meds i need help with pain especially at work. it can me over the counter i just want something to help me with my pain at work. its so sad there got to be some type of meds out there for our problem.
Hi im new here im going through this as well itching at night time just before i go to bed for me it only itchy on my upper body area from the waist up. I don't know what to do
hi I just wanted to add to your post. you say you are in pain almost all day. well it's not going to take it all away but it will take enough away that you can work and function throughout the day. I recommend going to the nearest dispensary of medical marijuana closest to you. it will take the pain and reduce it to the point where you can live and not have to be in pain miss. if you don't want to smoke it, you can either put it in a vaporizer with is just like breathing or get a medical marijuana infused lotion from the dispensary and rub it on the effected areas. I have joint pain and anxiety issuers and much more that makes life difficult and my dispensary is my savior. it helps
Yeah it works great but most states still don't have it. Here its still illegal and I'd have to go down on the street corner for it.
Hi , my wife who is in a similar elderly age bracket (70+) and has rheumatoid arthritis. She was on methotrexate for some 10yrs which worked well but was taken off it Feb.2014 and has little pain since. In April 2014 the itching started with a small rash on her back( which went fairly quickly) but the itching has not stopped since. A biopsy of the rash said urticarial dermatitis which apparently means not a lot. Since 2014 she has been scanned head to foot in search of cancer, covered in specialist aqueous cream, steroid creams and tablets, antihistamine tablets, immune suppressant tablets ALL WITH SIDE EFFECTS such as sickness or increased itching. She has just started HYDROXYZINE last Friday and seems to increased the itching, which was confined to the evening but has now increased to day and night. The taking of 3 or 4 showers per night does not now seem to relieve.
Does she now continue with the tablets to give it a chance to work(as she did with the immune suppressant (mycophenolate)for 2months which gave her violent evening sickness to give it a chance to work). Any suggestions welcome at this stage
I’ve been itching at night, my legs are the worst. It’s to the point I’m scratching until I bleed or the skin gets like raw. I hadn’t thought of Benadryl until now but am going to try tonight. It’s weird because it happens when I visit Philadelphia. I go back down south and I’m fine. I’d chalk it up to winter up here but it doesn’t seem to matter what season it is.
I wondered luckyme35 if your problem has resolved as your post is quite old? I have just Started with this problem, perhaps coincidentally with commencing tooth whitening treatment, and it is so uncomfortable. I itch from the waist up, deep itching in my back and superficial itching over my face and scalp and arms. My dentist has not had this reaction to tooth whitening but I am stopping treatment for so weeks to see if it stops. I am 60 I do not have dry skin or scalp, as far as I know I'm healthy and I am not on any medication. I have had an allergic reaction to tetracycline many years ago and malaria medication [in January this year] in the past.
I have whole body itching as well. It started when I stopped taking amitriptyline for sleep. I have been off the meds for 8 weeks and still suffer with the itching. My DR says he doesnt know how long it will last for. amitriptyline is a powerful antihistamine and I was on it for 20 years. no wonder my body is going thru this bad/awful time. I completely feel for you.
I am taking benadryl for itching every 4 hours and it helps. drink lots of water (2-4 litres per day) and dont forget to eat.
I am still not sleeping either. some nights I get 2-3 hrs fragmented and some nights no sleep at all. this is hell!
good luck with your endeavor.
get tested for Vit D deficiency, magnesium, potassium deficiency. I did that today and await the results. the more info you have about your body and what is going on the better. arm yourself with information.
its terrible when you can't sleep been there my doctor had to put me on ambien just to get some sleep i work i had to get something. now the problem is i itch because of pain medicine which i need because i have rheumatoid i ask myself the question do i stop pain or do i itch mostly i just hurt the itching is terrible
Amitryptiline is an antihistamine? I'm on it and itch all night. I take chlortrimeton at bedtime and it helps.
I being experiencing lots of inching for the past month. It's only on my upper body, specially my back, neck and head. I don't take any meds but omeprezol for heart burn. This is really driving me insane and it only happens at night.I even break in hives. Not allergic to anything... argh, I need help.
I am not a doctor so please don't take anything I say here for anything other than talking. But I have this whole body itching as well. I have tried not taking two men's and not eating some foods. But without any thing good coming from it. Talked with my doctor and she seem unconcerned. I am man and she will not even look at where is seem the worse, just seem to me that she is just uncaring. My wife is an RN so she is trying to help me with this unbelievable itching. I have found on line that liver cancer will cause the whole body to itch this way. I pray that this is not right in my case
Check with your doctor and get a blood work up on your liver, don't just think it will just go away. I will pray for you
I just stopped taking my anxiety medication a week ago, and I have been itching really bad since then. I didn't even think to consider that!!
Itching is a neuropathic pain connected with nerves, not skin. First of all you have to dissociate your mind from itching by engaging in activity which you like the most.I start cooking and itching gone for some time. Another thing keep a spray bottle full of drinking water and spray the spot with cold water.Castor oils also helps.
Are you on any meds? Have you tried taking any antihistamine? I itch all night too if I don't take one at bedtime. I find that chlortrimeton works best for me. If you don't have luck with that see your dr and ask for hydroxyzine or periactin.
right now not on meds, i did take antibiotic but didn't help at all.. so you advice to get antihistamine? or which the best to get that will cure all this happening to me.
seems like from all the comments i have read everybody that take pain medicine have this itching problem. itching problem is a terrible thing. it got to be something out there can help us. thats one reason i'm afraid to have this back surgery. what kind of pain medication can i take without itching.
Read my post, I have several different meds in there. Narcotics make you itch. Its a given.

I've been itching all over my body for the last week. Only thing different is the colder temps and maybe the house is drying out. But moisturizing lotions don't help. I tried a cortisone cream on some spots and it did help, but I can't put that everywhere. Last night I took a Benadryl and it helped enough to let me sleep. Now this morning, I'm itching again. I'll try another Benadryl after breakfast. Only thing is, it might make me sleepy.
I found out my itching is a side effect of withdrawal from Cymbalta. I'm hoping once the Cymbalta is out of my system, the itching will stop. But right now it is driving me crazy -- seems worse when I sit near our fireplace. I'm going to go find something cool to hold on my arms and legs.
This could be morgellons. Try parasite cleans. Wormwood, Apple cider vinegar combo.
Try Aquaphore at walmart
True,Itching is a terrible problem.Usually Dr.s hearing of itching they are scared because they know solution is not easy.I have tried innumerabke things but did not work any one perfectly.Of late one dermatologist suggested to see neurologist.I am trying for appointment which usually very difficult to get referral from my Primary care doctor because it is very expensive.Dr.s Network doctors want to save money for insurance company.(It is the understanding) Any way so far what helped me to some extent is Burn relief Lidocaine {O.5%) spray but frequently. alternatively simple spray of cold water or rubbing ice. Another ointment I tried wih some success is Triamcinolone Acetonide cream o.1% but it is effective after 2/3 hrs.
