Grandson began 40mg of Strattera a week ago. He is unable to sleep, even with Clonidine. His psychiatrist is very hard to reach between his appointments, I think he should discontinue it, until he can talk to his doctor. He missed work today, because he was unable to sleep.
What to do when Strattera causes insomnia?

Hi, sdh!
Insomnia is a very common side effect of Strattera affecting about 20% of patients. As a rule side effects like this resolve with a week or two but he can't go without sleep.
Strattera isn't habit forming so stopping it I wouldn't think would be a huge problem but do keep trying to reach his psychiatrist. Do you have a GP or PCP ? They might be able to tell you if stopping would be a problem other than perhaps losing any progress he might have made.
I hope you can get a definite answer quickly.
Regards, Wildcat
