Is he used to eating at a certain time? If so just give him it to him 1 hour & 15minuets before his usual time to eat. Hope this helps...
Good thinking. Seems like you're a woman who is able to think more and complain less!
My Doctor, who I respect greatly, tells me half hour before meals and no other medication within an hour before or after Sucralfate. Four weeks have gone by and I'm causiously optimistic.
birdman, maybe this link will help you out... Mary

Don't feel lonely... I've had the same kind of trouble with MY husband, as to when to take meds/when to eat--- and he didn't even have a stroke!
What IS it about the male personality, that they just can't/won't follow the simplest rules/directions???
Good Luck to you--and stay sane. :)

My husband doesnt take ANY advice from me!! He will listen to a stranger who tells him the same thing though! Who am I? I'm just the nurse who loves him, but will he listen to me?? Noooo... lol I dont know what it is about them either and I've grown up in a male dominated world with brothers, male cousins, and two sons-no girls-hell, even the dog is a boy! I still cant figure this particular quirk of men!! My mother goes through this kind of thing with my diabetic dad too. My mom is a nurse as well and she goes round and round with him on his diet. She has had to pretty much roll her eyes and let him eat what he wants then tell him she doesnt want to hear about it when he feels bad! lol
And, they sure don't get any better when they get older... :)
I'm not a nurse, but I DO read and research both all of my ailments and his--- but, as you say, he won't take my word for anything, BUT, any crackpot article in a magazine he'll tear out and demand that I read!! THEN, he will order whatever 'miracle' pills they are selling--but thinks everything I take from a Homeopathic healer is bunk!!
Well, I finally got him on that one!! Our new doc did the Spectracell blood panel on me--where they check your levels of vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants, etc. to see how 'well/healthy' you are.
Mine came back the best this doc had ever seen (for a new patient)--and he even said it was all owed to the "Greens" capsules and other nutrients she had had me on for over 18 months now!! It's too bad I didn't have a hidden tape recorder, because my husband actually admitted he was wrong--and that it was working!!! Bet most of us haven't heard THAT a lot!! :):)

Men, they are such stubborn @$$es arent they?! Something like a stroke just seems to bring it out more. I know exactly where you are coming from. I've seen it enough! lol If he eats before the hour is up, the medicine doesnt work as well. It needs to sit on the empty stomach to heal. Try to keep him as close to that hour mark as you can. Do your best to distract him in some way to get that hour in but dont let it undermine your sanity! If you have to let him eat to keep the peace, let him eat, but the medicine wont be quite as effective as if you let it sit for the hour.
I try not to refer to anyone as an ... there is power in what we say. the bible says to call things that are not as if they were.We will have what we say. We should think before we write... I understand joking, I love a good laugh.. but it is offensive to me to refer to someone in that fashion. I am called to honor my spouse... Since the stroke I can say it has been a huge struggle... I must say my tongue sometimes has holes in it from biting it... Just a heads up... thanks for the information... It is very helpful.
An ass is an alternate word for a donkey which is known to be a stubborn animal. Your own Bible in the King James Version mentions in the 10 Commandments something along the lines of Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's. It was not meant as a vulgarity. I did not say he was an ass hole (pardon) as that IS a vulgarity.
