I was on valsartan 50-12.5 for years but due to recent recall my doctor put me on losartan/htc 50-12.5 for my hypertension. I have always weighed between 189 and 192 year round for at least past ten years but, in past 10 days I've gained 7 or 8 lbs. I weighed tonight and it was 199.6. Ive not weighed that much since the late eighties. Dr is getting a call tomorrow to change my medicines at least until the new batch of valsartan is available. Is anyone else experiencing rapid weight gain for no apparent reason since taking this drug?
Weight gain with losartan/htc 50-12.5?

Hello I have been on Losartan and Dilzem for 12 years and have put on 2 stone! I am so down about it as I know it is not just what I eat. I have repeatedly been to my Doctor to explain the situation but he refuses to change this tablet, as he looked at the side affects and it is not mentioned. I explained the comments I have found on the internet but he still says that he doesn't want to change it to another. I am going again soon and will try again. Thanks for your story.
Your welcome. After my original post and trial and error for couple of months, My Dr put me on Olmesartan HTCZ 20-12. Tab ( Benicar). A complete turnaround in only a few days. I felt better, blood pressure stabilized quickly and I did not feel drained as I did on Losartan, and, I stopped the weight gain. Im not sure if its similar or not, but my current bp medication is the best Ive found. I did start a low carb high fat diet at my Drs request in June 2019 and as of today, a little over two months , have lost about 22 lbs. Im sitting near my ideal weight. I feel better now and eat good and healthy and its paying off great. Best of luck to you, I hope you find what you need to help you.
Yes I have gained 65 pounds. Short of breath and knee pain... and heart problems and etc didn't know that this medicine caused all of these problems. Until now.
Hi there. I was put on bp meds 5 months ago, have gained 10lbs per month, finally figured out it was bp meds. I have always been thin, could eat what I wanted and never gain a lb.
Asked the doctor for a bp med with a diuretic, was prescribed losartan htc, immediately lost a few lbs of water weight but then the bloating and stomach distention and feeling like I was going to pop started again. Immediately called the dr and asked to be put on benicar hct, the only bp med people have actually lost weight on. It is working fine, I lost 10lbs this month, belly has gone down. Now I still have 40lbs left to lose, going to be much harder than the rapid weight gain. Losartan does not list weight gain as a side effect but many people have had weight gain while on it. Hope this helps, I know how horrible it is to literally watch your weight go up over night. Good Luck to you.
Good morning , and thank you. I appreciate your response and will follow up today with my doctor. I am just glad I caught on quick as to why I was gaining. I will do some checking on benicar hct. Best of luck to you, and thank you again.
Youre very welcome. You are very lucky you caught on quick. I joined this group hoping to help others experiencing the same bp med problem. Though I am no doctor, I have researched the issue obsessively. I keep running into people experiencing the same rapid weight gain issue. If I can prevent one person from having to go through what I have in the last 5 months, it will be well worth it. If you have time, please post your results of whatever bp meds help. My stomach literally felt better within 2 days of taking benicar.
I sure will. I am awaiting a call from Dr's office now to see what route is next. Thank you.
My follow up comment is coming quite late, almost a year
