My dr prescribed Victoza for weight loss because I'm about 60 lbs over and have had trouble losing weight with diet and exercise. I'm not diabetic. I'd never heard of this drug and he gave me a sample. I've been on for about a month now and have lost about 5 lbs. I have to force myself to eat sometimes but I still have an appetite when I do eat. Definitely helps with the overeating. My sample is about to finish, Im a little scared to see how much it costs.
My dr game me a Victoza pen yesterday as a sample. I am not diabetic, but somewhat borderline. He wants me to lose weight because of this. I have battled with my weight all my life, the last five years being really bad. My mother and I have the same dr and she tried Victoza (she is diabetic) and it worked wonders for her with losing weight (she lost over 50 lbs. (within a four month timeframe) last year). The dr gave her three pens as samples. However, her insurance would not pay for her prescription, going forward, and she had to d/c. She gained some of the weight back, not all though (around 30 lbs.). Her eating habits changed, though, for the better because she used Victoza. She has since lost about 25 of those 30 gained. My insurance will pay for the pen, but I am not diabetic, so my dr cannot prescribe the Victoza. I have my fears, as well, when I run out of the pen because I need to continue to lose weight. I used to exercise last year also, but stopped.
I am not afraid to go back into the gym, though. I will go back into the gym today starting off with a light workout. You might want to try exercising (if you are able to) in combo with the Victoza and see what the weight loss will be. About the appetite, I ate breakfast at 6 am and took my first shot at 6:15 am. I am not hungry at all and it's been 4 hours. I usually want to eat 2 to 2 1/2 hours after I eat breakfast. I had 1 1/2 eggs and a breakfast link (the size of a weiner). My dr told me that they are in the testing stages of Victoza for a weight loss drug but it could possibly be 3-4 years down the road before (or if) the govt approves it for a weight loss medicine. The pen is about $200-$350, I think. I would suggest you ask your dr for another sample, sooner rather than later. Perhaps he can give you two pens or three.
how much did he make you take because im 192 and my dr. tould me to take 6mg
Novo Nordisk has a drug trial to effect weight loss in non-diabetics. I don't know if it is open. NIH has a drug trial site that might work out for you.
Victoza is only FDA approved to treat Type 2 diabetes. It is not approved to for weight loss.
I doubt that an MD would go for it. I've been on Vitoza for 9 months and have little weight loss.
