Every med is different for everyone unfortunately. My daughter lost 25 lbs in six months while on it. She gave it a good 8 months then started to wean off. Not fun! That was the only positive she got from that med. She wishes it would have helped her depression as once she stopped taking it she gained all of the weight back plus some. You have to choose your battles, if you’re feeling better on it I’d try & stick with it. Finding the right medication can be very difficult.
I have gained a lot of weight since I started taking this medicine. I was actually expecting to loose weight but instead I gained it.
Hi, Slav!
Unlike some antidepressant/anxiolytics weight changes with Effexor can go either way in a small number of people:
"Metabolic
Very common (10% or more of users): Anorexia (up to 20%)
Common (1% to 10% of users): Decreased appetite, increased appetite, weight gain, weight loss"
Personally, I noticed no weight change at all in the years that I was taking Effexor.
