As soon as you are done having sex, go to the bathroom and urinate. It helps alot. Gets the sperm out of your system which is most likely the culprit that is causing your infections. I know for a fact it works coz I was in the same predicament. Good luck!
I’m in the exact same boat. I’m trying 500mg cranberry pills at least once a week and up-ing my game with Greek yogurt.. I’ve had sex with my partner twice in a month and both times have now landed me a hospital visit.. took Cephalexin however it did not cure the infection which now went to my kidneys and now starting Flagyl (which has side effects that are making me feel very out of it..)
I would say making sure you urinate immediately after sex and drinking plenty of fluids for several days after sex to avoid getting an infection.m as well as getting those cranberry pills (I bought mine at target)
Hello everyone! I’m commenting on this thread because I think I might have the answer and I’m genuinely shocked I never see it anywhere online. When I was 19 I would get recurring uti’s after sex, and one day I almost passed out at uni and saw a student doctor- not a regular doctor- a student doctor who really knew her stuff. I told her my issue and she said that the reason for my recurring infections was because the inside of my urinary track (the wall of it) was swelling up because of intercourse, sometimes the guy just doesn’t fit inside a girl right and her walls will get damaged and swell up every time they have sex! This is what she recommended: immediately after sex take TWO IBUPROFEN. It stops the swelling and you don’t get an infection! That’s all you need to do. I was shocked. I thought surely this won’t work? But it did! When I followed this rule it somehow just stopped me from getting infections. It changed everything for me.
That’s not to say I never got another one. It’s good to take breaks from intercourse every now and then if you have this problem, and not to go too rough. But if you’re careful and combine all the other care tips with the ibuprofen trick then you should be okay. I know I was at least. I hope this helps you all, and if it does, please spread the word <3
It is really simple to avoid getting any U.T.I ever. Just make sure your partners penis is clean before sex. Get him to wash his penis with soap and water before sex and make sure your own area is clean right before sex too. It's really not that hard! Theres no need to take antibiotics every time after sex. If your partner has a foreskin then make sure he cleans under that part with soap too, right before sex. Youl also want to make sure your parts are clean too so it's always good to just have a quick shower before sex.
Bacteria naturally grows on skin so it makes sense to clean a penis or finger before it enters your vagina!
After sex make sure you pee as well. Then you've made sure 100% that you wont get an s.t.i. I promise this works. It's actually the only thing that's ever worked for me.
I feel your pain. I was the same. Trust me I tried every prevention out there and still got UTI everytime we had sex. I went through a series of antibiotic so often it was really bad for my body but finally I found some thing that worked for me by accident. I am not sure if this will work for you but drinking green tea works to prevent 100% to me. I don't know why but I know green tea is high in antioxidants. Also come to think of it when I used to live in Japan where we drink green tea like water, I never got any UTI. Tea bags or loose leaves do not seem to matter to me.
Going to try the d mannose & cross my fingers it works because nothing else does. I go to the bathroom before & after, drink water, wash up before & after, wiped front to back, and nothing helps. I can’t be on antibiotics regularly for other health reasons so I hope this works.
I found that when I came off hormonal birth control, the cystitis I got every time I had sex, stopped. It may be coincidence, but thought I'd mention it, to give you a possible suggestion.
I also found some positions less likely to cause cystitis (bruising the bladder).
If it is cystitis, which is the most common, then you can get over the counter remedies, or use cranberry juice, to avoid the antibiotic use. It's not always an infection that causes the inflammation in the bladder.
Other things that can cause inflammation, are: drinking alcohol, coffee or citrus juices (orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit), as they can irritate the bladder. Also, avoid drinking sugary drinks.
I drank aloe vera juice, (a small glass per day) as it can help reduce inflammation in the body, & found it soothed the bladder. Perhaps worth a try. You usually have to gradually build up to a small glass per day, & it should be the inner leaf juice, only, otherwise it can have you running to the toilet for frequent bowel movements, until you get used to it.
I just made an account because this literally describes my life. I’ve had recurring UTIS for about 2 years now. I’ve taken Lord knows how many antibiotics and Azo pills, and it gets rid of them but they always come back. If I don’t have sex, I don’t get them and sometimes when I do have sex I get lucky and don’t have them either they just happen randomly. It is the worst pain I have ever felt and I’m constantly searching for things to help. I’ve read so many articles and one said “it’s the angle you are having sex”, “you aren’t peeing good after sex”, “the guy isn’t clean and he is spreading bacteria”, “stop using spermicide condoms”. I’ve tried everything and nothing helps, and it’s easy to say I’m not going to have sex but let’s face it eventually you are going to have sex again. I currently have one and I just scheduled an appointment with my OB/GYN. I’m also going to try these D mannose pills and see if they work.
Is it cystitis you're getting? That's common after intercourse, because the bladder gets bruised by him pushing, so different positions bring it on.
I used to get it every time i had sex.
When i came off my contraceptive injection, I never got one again after sex. Not sure what the link is. Maybe change your regular contraception, if it's hormonal, & see if it persists.
If it is cystitis, you can treat it with over the counter treatments, or cranberry juice.
If it's something else you're getting, then this is probably no help to you, but I thought I'd mention it, just in case. That way, you can keep an over the counter remedy at hand, for after sex.
Please also see my reply to my original answer on this post, on the 1st page. I added a comment to it, explaining why UTIs are common after sexual intercourse.
Are they UTIs, or is it cystitis? Cystitis is common after sex due to the bladder getting bruised by being knocked by the penis. The symptoms are often similar to a UTI. That's why I ask.
What helps cystitis after sex?
I am 39 and I have been getting UTIs since I was 6 months old and hospitalized for one. I drink cranberry juice every day. Just a very small glass. I take nitrofurantoin every day. But, one of the biggest advice my gyno gave me and my hubs was for him to wash his penis before sex. Preferably right before. But at least a few hours before at most. It really helped a lot. It also really helped my chronic BV too. Mine are so bad only a heavy course of cipro works to get rid of them. Hope this helps.
Im glad that there are others that go though this unfortunate situation, i was syarting to think i am the only one wt this issue!!! Been on antibiotics since i was 16 , 2 decades later nothing has changed!!! How could there not be a final cure for this! HELP!!!
I am just so glad to to know that there are other people out there like me. Nobody seems to understand how consuming this issue is. I have been having uti’s after sex for about 14 Years. Been to 2 urologist had scopes done, countless doctors, 2 naturopaths and nothing helps except taking an antibiotic after sex. I have spent so much money on cranberry pills, D-mannose, uti clear tincture and uritrin herbal remedy. Done the showers and peeing but nothing helps. I feel like my only option is taking macrobid after sex. Sorry I don’t have any advice to help, but I am following and continue hoping I can find something other than an antibiotic to help me.
100% without fail after sex I get a UTI. I gave up on sex. I haven’t had sex in 7 years. I briefly dated someone 1 year ago who only had a tiny bit of the tip of his penis in my vagina when I pushed him off and I still got a UTI. I have tried it alllll nothing I say nothing works except not having sex. What’s weird is that I can masterbate using my fingers and that doesn’t give me a UTI & I’ve had guys finger me and no UTI. I don’t know what it could be... I just read an article that men carry bateria on their penis and it comes from them but i don’t it’s true because I have tried sex with condoms or boyfriend shower very well before sex and same I will get a UTI. I’m telling you I have tried it allll except for this D mannose thing ...
( of course the light dosage of antibiotics does work for me BUT I am traumatize by antibiotics 8 years ago a urologist ruined my life and gave me antibiotics for yet again another UTI due to sex and it gave permanent gastrointestinal problems. I have not been the same since. my stomach issues have ruined my life. So please don’t let these antibiotics ruin your life too. There should be seen as popping candy every time after sex. Antibiotics are not meant to be consumed so recklessly. Also after a while of taking them u start to feel irritation on your urethra u don’t get the UTI only the annoying irritation in the urethra. Which is still very uncomfortable. So weird. I feel like this UTI after sex is common yet scientists don’t pay attention to it, leading us to be here googling what hell to do. I came up with an idea... and I haven’t tried it and I know it sounds freaking crazy but I’m desperate for a solution at a normal
Life. Can someone (whoever has a significant other which I don’t) try it and tell all is here if it worked for you? Okay ready crazy idea... Put a piece of waterproof tape on your urethra. have sex. What if that is the solution to stopping bacteria from getting in there!? Sounds crazy I know. But it’s an idea. I’m desperate for a solution. I’m 32. I have not have sex since I was 25. I lost my virginity at 21 and that is when all my health problems began because of these UTIs after sex :(. So from 21-25 I attempted every solution that is advised in the books & has not worked. I don’t want to put anything in my body like d mannose or antibiotics which is why I came up with the crazy idea of mine. But I will research more on D mannose.
OMG I get UTI's all the time too, almost every single time I have sex. If I don't have sex, I don't get a UTI. It's horrible. I always think "this time I'm going to be really careful", I pee before and after, always wipe correctly, shower, make my husband clean-up before we do anything, we have even tried condoms. NOTHING HELPS! I don't know what to do. I know I need to go to a Urologist, I just keep putting it off. It absolutely makes me not want to have sex. My husband is not happy.
have the doctor prescribe u a low dose of an antibiotic after sex. its just one pill. it really works and has made sex less worrisome.
I literally have the same issue. I even got resistant to Cipro antibiotics. This is my worst nightmare. Even when i pee after sex i still get a uti. The doc has gave me 100mg Nitro to take after sex. It helps. I never got a uti after I’ve been doing this... taking the Nitro after sex. Last week I didn’t take it because it was literally 5 strokes of dick coming from the back and i got a uti from that -_- . The doc prescribed me a double dose of Sulfa antibiotics and the antibiots gave me a canker sore and yeast in my mouth. My worst night mare ever. The sulfa med also made me itchy. Horrible side effects. I had to call the docs and he told me to cut the dose in half. I’m trying to figure out a better way to handle this without putting antibiotics into my system everytime. I really hope scientists come up with a better natural cure for these common infections.
I found somethings that worked for me not to get a uti , like using summers eves wipes after you have sex and you pee, take a shower after having sex and wash your body . Drink lots of water , take 2 cramberry pills right after . And then drink more water and pee again in about 30 minuets but make sure you have to really pee bad so you can flush out all the bacteria.
Sounds like you have a sulfa allergy.
My boyfriend started using this spray around his genital area. I don’t get cystitis when he uses it. Gold Bond Ultimate Men's Essentials Body Powder Spray. It’s like a miracle.
is cystitis the same as UTI? can it help with that?
