I was just put on Trokendi XR for chronic migraines, starting at 25mg for a week then up to 50mg for a week, then 75mg for a week, then 100mg until I see my doctor next. I have read that it is the same thing as Topiramate or Topamax expect Trokendi is the extended release. Regarding one of the big side effects being weight loss, I have read many things about people dropping weight super fast. I was wondering if anyone on here has ever taking any of these and had any luck with weight loss as well? Also what were any of your other side effects? I am currently about to move up to the 75mg tomorrow, my side effects that I have right now is the tingling in my hands feet and face, not feeling hungry, and any pop tasting flat and horrible.
Trokendi XR and weight loss?

I've been on topamax for migraines for near a decade now. Initial side effects upon starting were tingling in fingers like pins and needles, forgetting things hence its nickname dopamax cause it can make you dopey as in a bit forgetful and stuff. It has not had any effect on my weight, and I'm about 7 stone overweight so would have been nice for that to have been a side effect but no lol, I haven't lost any due to the medication.
Unfortunately I now also get ocular migraines too. These ocular migraines started about 4 years ago. Not painful like my usual migraines (which I've had for 27 years) but happen with no warning and affect my vision for about half hour. Not pleasant.
I started at 25mg and increased to 200mg. I started At 117# and got down to 92#. I took a total of 400 mg but weight loss didn’t change much between 200 and 400mg. I lost that 25 # in about 3 months. I did gain about 15 # back after about a year on 400mg but I needed it because I was so sick looking.
I actually have a question for you based on your question.
I looks like I'm starting the same regimen you're describing today with 25mg which is supposed to be morning and night but I'm scared to take it during the day. I'm also taking it for migraine controls as I get almost daily ocular migraines (Aura) when I used to only get them once or twice a year.
I am wondering what time of day you take yours... it seems like it's only one per day and also wondering besides the tingling and couple other side effects you mentioned if you also get the severe dizziness, brain fog and memory issues like I've been reading a lot of people have.
I also take Effexor XR 150 mg per day and when I first started taking that I did have some crazy side effects at first for the first couple weeks but he said that it shouldn't cause any interactions. He decided on giving me this one instead of a beta blocker because of the potential weight loss side effect as beta blockers cause weight gain and I've been putting on weight ever since turning 35 and I'm now almost 39 (about 30 lbs).
Sorry I wasn't able to answer your question but it's more of may be an add-on to your question. Thanks in advance.
