Hi-I'm on 200 mg of Zoloft and weaned of klonopin two weeks ago. I was on the klon mainly for sleep. I just started trazadone for sleep 2 nights at 25 and 1 night at 50. A bunch of questions-how long before bed do you take traz? Do you find it immediately puts you to sleep? Does anyone take it for sleep and anxiety? My doc is considering either lowering my Zoloft and upping the trazadone a bit or just using trazadone for sleep and anxiety. Anyone just using trazadone? Thanks!

Hi, mmmmmm!
Trazodone is actually an antidepressant that's often prescribed for a certain side effect... sleepiness. I take it about 15 - 30 minutes before I go to bed. I don't take it with Zoloft but I do use another SSRI antidepressant/anxiolytic.

I take 200 mg of trazodone each night 40 minutes before bed.shuts my head down and makes me sleepy I also take a high dose of sertraline in the am slight side effects but tolerable.
My doctor told me the proper way to take trazodone is right before you go to sleep. You should be in bed and ready to turn out the light. Take your pill, turn out the light, lie down, close your eyes ... and that’s it. My partner tells me I’m usually asleep within 1 to 3 minutes or less. If you taking it differently, you will not get the results you want. Try this & I think you will be pleasantly surprised. No morning tiredness or druggy feeling. It’s truly amazing BUT you have to take it correctly. I don’t understand why you were not given the proper instructions. I hope this works for you.
mmmmmm19; Yes some do just take Trazodone only to help keep them under control and also for sleep. But for most it really has not been that effective were it me I WOULD STILL take the Zoloft in the morning and don't increase it until the doctor says to. Most do pretty well on this combination Just remember that the Zoloft sometimes makes the symptoms a bit worse for the first few weeks but it smooths out and from then on it feels better the longer your on it. Also, the Zoloft taken at bedtime you try it a few different ways some have to take it right at bedtime or they get too sleepy before they can hit the bed and others you take it 1 to 2 hours prior to bed and you are out as soon as you lay down.It is like we all are different and these meds have to be tapered to us. See what the doctor says after you have been on it for a while. But most really do pretty well on this 2 medication better than they do on just the one. Have a great day and hope this works out for you and always feel free to place another question if you need one of us.
Thanks for the response. My doc was saying she would consider doing just traz bc I want to have another baby and she said either is fine with preg but probably not both. Do you take traz and Zoloft together?
Right Now just taking the Trazodone but depending on the mg the doctor says some days can be hard but the most are pretty good. not a bad Idea now that I know hat your doing. good luck and enjoy.
Thanks chuck 1957! If you don't mind me asking-how much traz do you take? And do you use it for just sleep or other stuff?
mmmmmm19; Morning I take 100mg at bedtime because it lasts me through the day and helps with my anxiety, prior to taking it WHEN I did not sleep well I was not strong enough to fight off the battle of Anxiety. during the day. hope that we'll help you. and don't worry about asking if what I have been through helps one person it's worth my time. have a good day. Thank you. I'm just wondering if Zoloft isn't for me?? It's been almost 5 months and I still get physical anxiety symptoms. It would be nice if traz could help w both.
mmmm19; Okay myself I think you would do better on lowering the Zoloft and increase the Trazodone both of these well help with anxiety. and the Trazodone you have to see how fast it hits you prior to bedtime. but I would say take it about 1/2 hour before bedtime and head to bed 15 minutes after you take it we all react differently. but this would be a good rule of thumb. Then when you get up you take the Zoloft first thing. hope that helps more
Thank you!! That is what my doctor said she might do. The Zoloft just isn't working like it should at this point. I guess we will see.
