When my epileptologist passed away, his N.P. went to the office of the doctor who would be my next neurologist. After realizing that I took Tramadol, she (the N.P.) nearly begged me not to take any more it. Seems like it is prone to cause seizures, big time. And what they don't tell people about NSAIDS is, they can be a cause of kidney disease, which you may or may not learn about early on. I am dealing with that, too. (There is more to that one, but it's something that you should ask your pcp about.) The fact that you are concerned enough to put it out there is a sign to me that you aren't as comfortable with the answer as you would like to be. There is a certified kidney coach online who makes sense who says that your own best advocate is yourself. It works for more than kidneys.
Anth-1986; Please don't even worry about coming off of the Tramadol everyone is different and for many it is not as bad as you here and many times it's for extended periods of times. Also, I put your friend request in a folder I have been having trouble friending people every once in a while it does but its a bug in the system so make sure you keep my name in the mean time if I can help I well sure be glad to. It's nice to be able to use that friend part because sometimes we don't really want to post something or a private message etc but it has been a long time since mine has worked I keep turning it in and I see others with the same problem. but feel free to reach out to me anytime wish they would get that fixed. wishing you the best and a fast recovery.
Thanks I'm now on 30mg mst continus tablets one twice a day 12hrs apart and oramorph every 4 hours still on 3 gabapentin 3times a day and naproxen morning and night.
Getting stronger stuff but it doesn't seem to be working at the minute lol I guess it's just trail and error for now untill I find summit that works
Anth-1986 Remember also when they change the medication sometimes it takes a few doses to get to the point that you even notice it does sound like a better combination so give it a little time hope this helps and please let me know how you are doing Pain is very hard to get under control trust me.
Anth; Sorry but my comment line won't work again this morning so I have to list this as a new post so I hope they end up together. It is very Important to take these medications at about the same time each day or dose and take them with food to protect your stomach.unless your doctor said differently. And don't try and stretch out your dose if the pain gets out of control its harder for it to get back into control. And make sure you don't get too low without reordering these because you can't just stop these type medications and I know like the Oramorph you need a written prescription each time so make sure you keep an eye on your prescriptions. And long term use of Tramadol can give you some nasty side effects without tapering down when the time comes. okay, you well be fine I am sure again feel free to post anytime and I sure hope you can keep the pain under control and everything is working out.You take care.
Chuck: yea always have my meds written dwn thanks and i am not looking forward to coming off tramodol I've heard such bad things from people, hopefully will have op soon through thanks again for your comments very helpful
Anth; Chuck here again glad you saw the doctor; AND THE WAY YOU ARE TO TAKE THE MEDS SOUNDS GREAT TO ME. what you have can be very painful and you do need some strong medication just remember to take it just as directed don't go over the dose the doctor said but at least we know that the doctor does know about the Epilepsy,Which was my main concern after looking at the drug interactions. Thanks for giving me all you were taking it sure helps and we want to avoid any problems like I was saying your very well controlled with your Epilepsy and this is fantastic.so your chances are very low of having any problems. Just follow the doctors orders now. And try to stay comfortable until or if they have to do something more about it.
If I can help you or anyone here please write back and let me know.I feel better knowing the doctor knows about everything and remember to keep a list of all the medications you are being prescribed so if you ever end up at an ER OR anything like that they well know what you have in your system. You sound like a very smart person but it's better to be safe than sorry.Hope this controls the pain and you are able to get around some the back and spine can be some of the worst areas of pain as much as we use them we don't notice until something goes wrong and notice even moving the arms and legs or whatever we use our back for everything.Wishing you well and feel free to come back anytime if you have a question.
Anth; again it may just be fine and the doctor use's these together often but it's always good to double check with these two medications, you could run a higher risk of Seizures, and the other things it list.So please talk to your doctor or the Pharmacist.
Chuck1957 hi thanks very much for all that u've given me goin back to doctors tomorrow see what they say, because surely me having epilepsy would put me at a higher risk of a seizure? Again thanks
Anth; that is for sure when you already have Epilepsy this is not a good combination for you, even if it is under control glad to help,And please feel free to come use us again if you have any questions. Chuck1957 We are not doctors but we can help in many ways. This combination sure helped me by you putting down all the medications you were on. have a good day. Chuck.
chuck1957: been back to the doctors, there not to bothered about my epilepsy as it's controlled and I've been fine on tablets for 10 years or more.
he sed take 2 tramodol 3 gabapentin every 4 hours with oramorph two hours after,
naproxen morning and night how does that sound?
Anth-1986; Thanks a lot for listing all the medications your on. This way the first thing I did was run drug Interactions on them, And just so you know you don't want to drink any alcohol while taking these medications together. But also sometimes the doctor know of these interactions. and decides the benefits out way any danger to get you out of pain. I well print them on here they are from this site Drugs.com which is pretty good but the main ones are MAJOR interactions which are alcohol and Gabapentin don't mix and the other is they really don't recommend taking Tramadol with Oramorph tablets due to an increase in possible seizures.
And many times this whole combination can cause side effect to be much worse than if they were taken by themselves Now this does not mean they can't be taken together but I would double check with your doctor and see what he or she thinks about them again and also what side effect you may be having with this combination of medications So here is the list of Interactions between all of these together and like I said I have seen many people take these together but it's a good Idea if you are having many side effects to check back with your doctor. OKAY ANTH; HERE IS A COPY AND PASTE ON THE MEDICATIONS(((( This is the biggest one so please give your doctor a call and make sure he or she really wants you on these.))))
Interactions between your selected drugs
Major
morphine tramadol
Applies to Oramorph SR (morphine), Tramal (tramadol)
Ask your doctor before using morphine and traMADol together. Using these medications together can increase your risk of seizures, breathing problems, and other side effects. If your doctor prescribes these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take both medications. Tell your doctor if you have weak or shallow breathing, tremors, restlessness, seizures, or problems with speech, balance, or walking. Avoid driving until you know how the medications will affect you. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor. You just might be able to get by with fewer medications. Chuck1957 So please give the doctor a call and double check with this.
