This is my third day on zoloft only taking 12.5 mg and I feel very groggy unable to drive. talked to dr. this morning said to cut back to half of that. Will that help ? will this feeling pass ? other wise it helps me sleep at night and i feel ok except very groggy.
If I reduce the dose of Zoloft by half will I feel less groggy?

No, to reduce the dose dont help or work, cause pills induced different effect for every body. if someone would sick and get correct drug , he feel good, but if he was in health ,or drug would wrong , he feel not good with that pill. are u depressed or u have sleep disorder?

First of all, I just want to say that everyone reacts to these meds differently. With that said, usually the first two or three days are the worst as far as side effects go. It's just a matter of your system getting used to the medication. By decreasing the dose, it makes it easier on your system. For me, that medication in particular had side effects that never went away, and thus wasn't on it for very long. Finding the correct antidepressant really is like finding the correct key to a locked door, and more often than not, the first one isn't going to be the correct choice. Who knows, maybe the side effects will go away, but if they don't, then give something else a try, as that's just the nature of these meds. With a bit of time, you'll find the correct one that works well with your system!
Good luck, and hope that you're feeling better soon!
Sincerely,
Jeff K
thank you. we'll see what tomorrow brings, hopefully i will be able to leave the house!
Great answer jK! Unfortunately it is a bit of a crap shoot, but when they do hit on the right combination things usually work out well. Nice seeing posts from you again!
Thanks! It's been a difficult time for our family due to me loosing my job back in October, and as a result, had to loose my mental health coverage, including mental health medication in order for us to get by. Luckily, my doc was able to switch everything over to generics at the same cost that I would have payed with the copay before (cymbalta to effexor, nuvigil to ritalin, etc.). But now that I'm feeling better, I'm able to contribute more. Normally, when I have severe troubles, my natural reaction is to hide... this site included. But, with so many interviews lined up, I'm having troubles not overbooking, and with things looking on the up and up vs.
before, I've come out of hiding! Tomorrow I'm interviewing with a company that has had me in mind for months now (although it would mean moving from the Chi to Phili), and it's finally coming down to sealing the deal (as long as everything goes clockwork tomorrow)! But yah, if I all of a sudden vanish, most likely it's due to some sort of serious issue / issues, or else I'm simply swamped with work (which I wish was the case)! Anyways, thanks once again!

Hello Car11! I have been on Zoloft for years now and it has worked for me. I strted at 50 mg and I am now taking 200mg. Once I tred to go off of Zoloft with drastic results. I experienced terrible w/d so I immediately met with my doctor to work on restarting my medication. I had been working in mental health as a psychiatric nurse/case manager for 16 years and thought I could manage by stopping my meds. What a big mistake! I encourage everyone to work with their doctor when they want to discontinue a medication. You are on a low dose so that is probably why your doctor felt comfortable in cutting it in half. I never had any sedation with Zolft in fact I have sleep disturbances. Like everyone has said, everyone responds differently. After all, our chemistry is not the same. Do not give up on Zolft yet. Continue to work with your doctor. It may work for you like it has for me. I wish you the best! Sweetie Pie
