When I take any medication it takes 2 hours to start to take effect. I don't know anyone else who takes this long. It's especially a problem with pain medication because I only get 1.5 hrs of relief from 1 percoset! Does anyone have this problem? I really need a better way!
Percocet - takes too long for medication to take effect in me, anyone else have this problem?

Hi fibrosufferer2, as mentioned before sublingual medication works faster. You actually absorb almost 50% compared with 29% orally swallowing pills. They also take 45 min. before taking effect. You can place the tablet under your tongue and let it dissolve
It's aweful!! But works faster. Hope this helps.
Dear fibrosufferer2 - I have that problem too. I am on Fentanyl patch and it takes 6-8 hours b4 I get relief, then I an "ok" for a day or two. For the breakthru pain, I am on liquid Morphine. Supposedly to work faster than tabs or caps, but, still have to wait for relief. Seems to take forever. Doc has no answer about Patch, but says due to my Crohns Disease, absorbtion is a problem, I eventually get some relief, but NEVER pain free. Have to learn to live with a certain amount of pain all the time. Any gastro problems? that could be causing delay. I have tried several sublingual meds, but, to be honest, they are out of my price range. Wishing you the best...
Thanks! Yes there is always pain, true... I just need to get it down to the point where I can function and be productive! Spending 2 - 2.5 hours out of every 4 hours in agony doesn't allow me to be very productive! Grrrr!
fibrosufferer2 - i know the ongoing, never ending pain changes the way we respond to life. IF i am able to really push and leave the house 2-3 days a month, there is not much more I can hope for. Bedridden most of the time, even have computer set up at foot of bed, so I can use it if I can just sit up, and their are many days even that is too difficult and causes more pain. In the 2 months or so that I have been on this site, I find it gives me inspiration. I want to check on my friends and see what new questions have been added to my groups, just in case I can help. Most often I find that someone has already answered as I would have, so I just give "thumbs up" and go to the next. You are a very smart, kind person. I am sure a lot of people would appreciate your input. Even if its only for a few minutes we take the spot light off our selves. Better than none... Be well as can be, much love...
Hi fibrosufferer2,
I've heard of several... (maybe not several, maybe just one, oops!) Ok, one med that is taken by a lollipop, it hits the receptors quickly, it's Subsys, a big, VERY big switch from Percocet to Subsys.
Some meds come in a sublingual form, ask your doctor about that, maybe there is something out there just for you!
Best wishes,
Lara
Thank you. I will ask about it.
Hi again fibrosufferer2,
IF you ask about sublingual meds, would you please let us know if there is something that isn't too drastic that helps?
Thank you,
Your friend,
Lara
Absolutely I will share what I learn! I see pain doc next week. I'll keep you posted.
Thank you!! : )
